Inappropriate Media

Hello good people. I wanted to touch on a topic that was already discussed before....

There are some game media files that contain gore, violence, blood, guns, people killing each other and they seem to stay just fine.... However as soon as someone submits an image of naked/half naked/topless etc... person it gets removed. Even if at first it has been approved people persist on going to these games and requesting removal.

I get how some people feel offended by this and I understand not everybody wants that in their collection. But if that is the case do not get these type of games and don't spoil actual game history for others. Game does not need to be 'graphical' to have half naked person on the cover. If that is the original cover it should stay, if people amuse themself adding own inappropriate media that should be removed.

There are few other API/Image/Media platforms that have these but unfortunately Launchbox uses only own database 'from the box'.

Can we please agree and possibly add another option in the game data that would simply include 'naked', or 'not for underage' or anything alike that would help eliminate this. People in their profiles could have option not to be able to moderate this types of games and that would do it. I do understand that it is not as simple as pressing one button but would not be that had to add to database either.

Thank you.

Unfortunately not, The rule is no sexual imagery period. While i do personally disagree with this rule and completely agree with you in regards to violent imagery being allowed while for less halmful imagery like nudity is not, it is what it is i'm afraid. Its Jasons website and program, and he makes the rules, and this is one he is defiant on, no sexual imagery.

I get that. Jason is the man in charge and very kind in his replys. This is exactly why I suggest adding that option to peoples profiles. Jason should take a look at the topic and people requests and reconsider.

However deeply religious or offended you might be by that it should not fog your vision of actual gaming history.

Its not just that though, there are also the legal implications of hosting such content, that could be deemed to only be suitable for over 18's, and as we have no age gate here that could prove troublesome. And lots not forget that the images hosted here are not strictly speaking ours, i'm sure nintendo would have something to say if we were hosting images of a porno rom hack of Mario, with imagery of Mario doing Yoshi, im sure it would only be a matter of time before they issued a DMCA notice or worse. So a blanket rule is better than approving some while denying others, as much as i personally disagree. In my eyes you allow violent and sexual content, or you dont allow either at all. The US is a strange place though, and its for more socially acceptable to show graphically violent imagery than it is view ourselves in our completely natural form, but those are not my decisions to make.

Again - Mario doing Yoshi is bad example as, as mentioned before 'if people amuse themself adding own inappropriate media that should be removed'. So anything that is not 'official' has green light to be removed. Nintendo is a service that loves to remove media - yes. Adding an option for people to choose to see or validate their age would help would it not? Most big companies including Nintendo have 1 single button agreement with 'yes I am 18 or over' or 'no I  am 17 or under'.

Again this is mute, the owner does not want to allow it, so end of story really. It doesnt really matter the legality's of it when the person who matters has made the decision, as it is totally within his rights to do so. Myself and the other forum and database moderators, dont have to agree, but we do have to enforce those wishes.

I have not asked you to join in or speak nor to agree. I have kindly asked Jason to reconsider and look at my suggestions. I am sure others would have their own if it comes to that.

Thats not my point, Jason already know's my thoughts on this matter from previous discussions, but his mind is made up, and he wont be swayed on it, so its really a waste of your time trying to get changes here. The decision was made years ago, and it will stand.

It would be considered more of waste of time to use the database that is incomplete more than requesting someone to change their mind. I use few front-ends and while I prefer Launchbox interface there are others that offer better media base. It is hard to choose between these. If Launchbox would have better build media base it would be amazing.
