DevarionArias
I've recently purchased a LaunchBox Premium license (lifetime one). Set everything up using the tutorials and such... Did some basic testing in Launchbox and now I'm working on getting Bigbox configured. I'm running into a few issues I can't sort out. I've checked the forums but didn't find anything. - Running Windows 10 Home, 64-bit on my PC - Neither Launchbox nor Bigbox EXE seem to properly close on exit. If I close, then try to re-open, I get a message from Windows saying it's still running and to wait. It never closes. I eventually have to kill it with task manager. I'm not sure if this has anything to do with it either, but I notice two 7-Zip Console services running concurrently in addition to the launchbox/bigbox each time. If I kill those, they pop-up again when I open either. - I've had to keep adjusting my mapping to my wireless Xbox controller and now I think I've damaged some of the core files from aforementioned issue since it will not properly exit. I can launch Bigbox, but as soon as I try to go into the options menu the GUI disappears and same behavior as if I closed it. This behavior has changed since I first started working with it. Was working fine for a few hours... Any ideas what I can do to remedy these two things? Jason Carr
Hi @DevarionArias, LaunchBox works on saving all the data after it closes. So sometimes killing it like that can actually cause data issues. If lots of changes were made, sometimes it can take a bit to finish saving them. How long are you waiting for LaunchBox to properly close?
DevarionArias
Well, the first time it happened, I let it go for a couple hours and came back. This time it was Launchbox. 7-Zip Consoles (two instances) and Launchbox were still going under processes, so I killed them. Over the next few hours I worked on customizing launchbox and then launching Big Box and making some customizations. Each time (regardless of app) same issue when I exited the application, even if I closed it with "Exit" instead of clicking the X on the window. I waited 30 minutes, then again 20 minutes. No changes. I poked through config settings to see if I could figure out something that might be causing a delay but I'm pretty new to this so found nothing... Eventually I got this this point where now if I try to open options menu in Big Box it just closes (well sort of) and never closes out 7-Zip Console or processes. I'm pretty sure I'm going to have to scrap everything and start over but I'd like to try and figure out what's causing the problem so I don't waste more time and have to start over again. Jason Carr
Hmm, the 7-zip consoles still running is not normal and is probably the clue as far as what's going on. I haven't seen that happen myself, at least not recently. I can't think of any reason why they should still be running after the app closes. It's also possible that they could be the cause of the app not closing. But of course we need to pinpoint why they're not closing. Can you try unchecking this check box? That's something that you'll definitely want to keep checked in the long run, but it would good to know if that process is the one causing the issue. DevarionArias
Thanks, Jason. I have tried unticking this setting but it seems the 7 Zip Console, Launchbox, and Big Box apps remain open even after I exit without a crash. I let it run about 15 minutes and no change. I tested a minute... If I close the 7-zip Console processes the big box and launch box processes close on their own, but not the other way around. If I close Launchbox and/or bigbox the 7 zip console processes remain running. I also noticed that there is no Launchbox listed under my installed programs, so I figured it might be worth mothballing my old install by renaming it (Launchbox-old) and install another one and try it to see if I get the same result. I don't have that problem on the new one. No customization at all except I've installed the license, just one emulator and just one rom, no meta data. fraganator
Hi @DevarionArias, Out of curiosity, can you copy (not move) the entire LaunchBox-old folder to another location? I wonder if it's a disk or filesystem issue that 7-zip is hitting, and causing it to hang. I've seen similar issues in the past (not with LaunchBox though), where the filesystem has become corrupt, causing apps to hang when reading files. DevarionArias
Thanks for the tip! I have tried this with the old one. (I moved it to an SD card I had laying around). Unfortunately, 7 Zip Consoles and Launchbox remained open for 20+ minutes after exiting on that instance as well. On my new one, I'll add stuff gradually and test as I go. If I do something that reproduces this issue I'll be sure to post for everyone.
DevarionArias
Ok, I've gotten partway through setup here (maybe half way.) Here's what I've been doing: 1. In Launchbox: Import Roms from Folder, set Emulator, Import Meta Data 2. Test a rom. Exit. 3. Close Launchbox and make sure it exits properly and within a reasonable timeframe. 4. Open Bigbox. Test ROM. Configure an controller buttons that aren't working how I want. 5. Exit, check and make sure Bigbox exits properly and within a reasonable timeframe. 6. Rinse and repeat for each system. During step 4, while I was trying to configure a control to exit the ROM screen Bigbox unexpectedly crashed. I checked Task Manager and it exited completely, no processes running. Now when I open Big Box, just like before, it will load all the systems and if I try to open a system or a menu, or pretty much anything but navigate the systems it crashes again. Would there be any way to reset Bigbox control mapping to default values without opening it? Say delete or replace a file? I'm familiar with editing XML files so if it comes to that I'm cool with messing with it.
fraganator
In LaunchBox there's a Restore Data Backup option in the Tools menu. From there you can roll back to a previous configuration. The backup files are stored in LaunchBox\Backups if you need to manually recover.
