KNESBEY
I'm having issues getting games to play. I keep getting error messages. I'm a complete noob to launchbox/big box. I have this same issue on 2 different computers both what I think is overkill on specs so I don't think power is the issue. My desktop has dual 3ghz quad core xeon processors with 32gb ram, 4gb geforce graphics and, 512 ssd and 2tg hdd. My laptop 8th gen Core i7 2ghz quad core with nvidia geforce graphics, 16gb ram, and 512 ssd. I feel my issue is something simple that I'm not doing right during setup because I play the games using retroarch without any issues. Please give me suggestions as to how I can fix this. neil9000
You are linking to the Dolphin.7z, that is never going to work. The emulator needs extracting and Launchbox pointed to the dolphin.exe.
Retro808
Looking at your emulator list you may want to check all of your emulators. I can also see for PSP you are pointing to a zip file and not an actual .exe.
KNESBEY
Oh yeah I did do that, I just imported the wrong pic. I thought that may have been the case but that's when I got the "could not recognize file" error
neil9000
Just now, KNESBEY said: Oh yeah I did do that, I just imported the wrong pic. Some emulators will load zips, like Retroarch but most will not work at all with 7z files directly.
KNESBEY
So all of my roms need to be unzipped for them to work in launchbox? I thought this worked similar to retroarch. I have 1k plus games and I play them in retroarch no problem without unzipping them.
KNESBEY
Ok I just saw what you were talking about. Let me try that
KNESBEY
OK I just checked off extract files and now I get this error for gamecube and this error for Wii

No, but they do have to be in a format that the actual emulator supports, Dolphin DOES NOT support 7z. 7 minutes ago, KNESBEY said: Ok I just saw what you were talking about. Let me try that Yeah, Launchbox can extract to its temp folder and deletes that file later, but you will now have a wait when launching a game as it needs to be extracted first. No CD/DVD style images should ever be zipped in my opinion. All those emulators support compressed formats that do not require decompression, like CHD, PBP, NKIT as well as various others.

First rule is to make sure games actually work in the emulator before even bothering with Launchbox, if the games dont work by themselves then they will never work through launchbox. Your middle image isnt even a rom, its a text file for vimms lair, so that obviously is also wrong.
neil9000
Im assuming that every single one of your zip files has a completely usless vimms lair read me in it, and as there is more than one file launchbox is loading that from within the archive. It looks like you have some rom cleaning to do if you ask me.
neil9000
My Gamecube collection for reference, they are compressed as you can see from the sizes, but are decompressed on the fly in the emulator, so best of both worlds. I believe the compression i am using is now outdated and there is a new format for Gamecube, but you get the idea.
KNESBEY
Ok I think you guys are right. I think that either some of my GC and Wii games are bad or need to be unzipped. I just tried an N64 rom and it worked directly in mupen64 and using retroarch, but when I used launchbox, It keeps asking me to install mupen64 here are the settings
KNESBEY
Ok I for the most part figured out the dolphin sitch thanks to @neil9000 & @Retro808 I really appreciate you guy's help. I'm kinda of having a same but different situation with ePSXe emulator not working for PS1 games. I took into consideration all of the same advice that you gave me for dolphin. I unzipped the emulator and pointed to the exe and I checked out my psx roms directly in ePSXe program and some were bad but most weren't. I then confirmed the good roms directly in retroarch using pcsx rearmed core and they worked flawlessly. So I went back into launchbox and associated ps1 to retroarch but when I clicked on the dropdown menu to switch the emulator specifically to pcsx rearmed core, it wasn't available. Only psx_libretro core which did not work at all. It didn't even give an error message. So I pretty much tried everything that I know how to do based off of what I learned literally just today. I'm sure its something simple that I don't know about like last time.

Those are essential and both epsxe and medafen retroarch core need them for any game to run, again, you should of already known this by testing your games actually work and load before ever going near Launchbox with them, (you will find that nearly all CD/DVD based systems need the bios file, as do some cart systems). KNESBEY
I do have the bios installed directly in epsxe. Do I also need to install it into launchbox, if so where because I can't locate a spot where I'd load a bios file. I finally got it to work using duckstation but epsxe is supposed to be better. My biggest issue that I'd say I've been having is that some of the emulators go into an install loop whenever I try to launch a game. So far I've only loaded PS2 and N64 games into launchbox which it always asks me to install the emulator. SNES and PS1 using duckstation work ok. Any Ideas.
