Possible to have duplicate platforms to use different emulators?

My situation is that I want to be able to launch my Gamecube games in either Dolphin or Dolphin VR, so I need a way to create a custom "Gamecube VR" platform that will reference the same ROM library as the standard Gamecube platform but launch it from the VR emulator. I tried using the import wizard to set up a "Gamecube VR" platform that scrapes as Gamecube, but it doesn't seem to want to create a library from my existing roms, i guess because it think they're already imported? Is the only way around this to duplicate my GC ROMs into a unique folder and reference that instead? It's like 80GB so I'd rather not...

Not sure if you are aware but you can have your GameCube platform name in the Associated Platforms tab of both emulators. Then in LB when you right click a gamevyou can choose which emulator to launch the game with or in BB if you have Game Details page active (or bind a button to bring up the Game Details page) it gives you the option to choose which emulator to launch the game. So you do not really need to have two platforms.

However, if you insist on having two platforms and use the same roms during the rom import process be sure to check the box for "Force Import Duplicate". This will make LB import the same game.

I'm in a similar situation here: I'm using both MAME and RETROARCH simmultaneously to run my arcade games and I did this solution that DarkEco  suggested. It works for sure, but it's kind of a PITA to have to right-click the name of the game and then go to Retroarch -> mame_libretro.dll to run a game using that platform, since MAME is my 'default' platform to execute games by double-clicking the name of the game on my list. So I would like to have another Category with the Retroarch platform into it to list all my games the way MAME does, so I can execute games using Retroarch by just double-clicking them just like what happens when I use MAME.

Would it be possible to add a new Category on the left column of LaunchBox and import a 'new' platform to it for example "Arcade 2" and pointing this platform to Retroarch as the mais executable, and have this new Category to list the same romset I have for my regular MAME? So in this case I would just select a category on the left column and each category would have your games launched by a different emulator.

you don't want a new category, you want a new platform called Arcade 2 which will have Retroarch setup at the main emulator. This can go under your existing Arcade category. Then your original Arcade platform will continue to work with MAME as the main emulator.  Now you would be able to select the games for each platform with your preference of double clicking.

The tree would look like this....

  • Arcade (category)
    • Arcade (platform - emulator = MAME)
    • Arcade 2 (platform - emulator = Retroarch)

Alternatively, you can make an Additional App for the game(s) you want changed so they are launching through Retroarch, and then assign that Additional App as the Default App. No new platform required. Now these games would launch with the intended default emulator by double clicking on them.
