I am sorry, I am very new. I watched a Youtube video (ETA Prime)  and downloaded launchbox as well as the romset .240. I did everything that was shown in the video and I have the games and the artwork. if I double click or press play button, the screen goes black and then back to the launchbox screen. im sure the filepath or something simple is the cause but not sure. can someone give me detail on the correct file path or something. Thank you

To better help you, can you provide the following screenshots of your setup please?

In LB go to >Tools>Manage Emulators and edit your MAME emulator. Post a screenshot of the Details section.

Next edit one of your games and post a screenshot of the Launching section.

promise to get back sooner then before.

No worries.  Life takes precedence over hobbies. ;)

For the game edit screenshot, you're showing the Metadata section.  Was looking for the Launching section.  But if you used the LaunchBox Full Set Importer, things are probably fine there.  But if you didn't..., may be worth a look.

(I should have asked this first) Have you tested running games directly from MAME itself?  Right click on one of your Arcade games and select Open MAME...

Then in MAME, start a game and see what happens.

I have tried "launch with MAME" but goes not work

Selecting Launch With MAME is the same as clicking Play.

MAME should open and should look similar to this below.  Click Available (red box on left).  Then just start typing "1 on 1" (with no quotes).  The numbers and letters you start to type will automagically appear (red box on top).  Now double-click on 1 on 1 Government (Japan). (middle red box)

I tried this and 1 on 1 did not come up. I did an Audit and still did not work.

I do see in your images that your mame rom folder is set as "mame-sl" that sounds suspiciously like a software list set, What is your actual romset, and where did you get it from (without directly linking to it)? Just wanna check that 1on1 rom isn't for some weird Russian home computer or something.

I hope it nothing like that, lol  I got it from Internet Archive. I am noticing it is not just the "1 on 1" ROM, it seems to be all of them.

After clicking Available, were there any games listed in the middle area?  (screenshot?)

At first no, nothing showed up. I did an audit and now there are some, the example 1 on 1 was not in the available list. not on windows keyboard and not sure how to alt print screen for screen shot of MAME window.

Thats not a full mame romset, in fact im not sure what that is exactly. 2882 is about the number of working games in a fullset but a actual fullset is much larger than that, so i'm not really sure what you have there.

Of course, just my luck. Well, I guess I am on the lookout for a full working romset and I will just try to start over again. Do you have any suggestions (If you are able) on a good safe one?

Ok, so did a whole new install of the rom set as well as Launchbox, this is what my setup is now.I still seem to get the flicker of a black screen and game does not open. I have tried to open with MAME and there is nothing listed in "Available"

So sorry to be a pain. I know I have the correct romset now.

So I had this problem last night as a noob who just installed launchbox yesterday. What I found was I had to have my roms inside MAME > roms folder and then tell launchbox to leave where they are when I import them. After that they load now.

so you created a folder that said "ROMs" instead of "games"? and how do I tell Launchbox to leave them there when I import them?
