Pause Screen issue Mame

Pause screen is not showing up in mame only, When I press pause, the game pauses and is still showing the paused state of the game (no pause menu). however the strange part, when I press up/down on my controller I can hear it cycling through the menu options, I can even select reset by pressing down 4 times and pressing select, the game resets. It’s almost like the pause screen doesn’t have permission to be on top.

In retroarch it works fine, I can see the menu and all works well.

anyone seen this before?

Each emulator behaves differently, this is why we have some settings for the pause and startup/shutdown screens, so you may need to play with them to find a combination that works correctly for you. This is just the nature of trying to draw a window on top of another one, its not a exact science unfortunately as every program handles their own window differently.

Thanks Neil,

Where are these setting found? I see only basic on/of settings in Bigbox/options/Game pause.

In LB got to >Tools >Manage >Emulators. When you edit an emulator you can adjust the settings there for emulator specific Pause settings.
