RetroGoat
Hi Everyone, Happy New Year 2023! I've just got hold of LaunchBox Premium and have imported all my games, etc. When I imported the Arcade games it suggested I used RetroArch as default, so I went with the suggestion. All my games and associated media have been catalogued perfectly and it looks awesome (especially on BigBox). However, whenever I try and launch a MAME-based game the same game launches regardless of the game I choose. It's actually a cool little game (one where you start with two 2's and you slide them together to make a 4, etc), but it will NOT launch the game I want. I then grabbed hold of the latest copy of MAME and added that as a launch option ... but the same thing happens! I cannot understand what is happening, so if anyone out there can work out what I'm doing that's so stupid I would really appreciate it. I'm all ready to go, but I can't load my Arcade games! Thank you.

I'm fairly certain all of our imports recommend MAME for Arcade, and Full Set Importer doesn't even work with Retroarch. 3 hours ago, RetroGoat said: All my games and associated media have been catalogued perfectly and it looks awesome (especially on BigBox). This is because you haven't set the core for RetroArch (which again the Wizard would have asked you for in any recent version of LaunchBox). To adjust it in the upper right menu of LaunchBox go to Tools > Manage > Emulators. Select Retroarch and press edit. In the window that appears (Edit Emulator) click "Associated Platforms" find the row with the first column set to "Arcade" you will see in the Core column you have it set to 2048_libretro (or something similar). You need to set that to the core you wish to use. Alternatively you could add MAME as an emulator, then go to the same tab and add Arcade to it and set it as the default emulator for your games and run your collection through MAME instead. Some features of LB/BB require you to be using MAME for Arcade games to function properly (mostly the high score functionality)
RetroGoat
Thank you very much for such a swift response! Now you say it I probably imported incorrectly. I selected Tools > Import > ROM Files > Selected Folder > Selected Arcade (fpor the platform) > Etc. I now see there's a separate option for Arcade games i.e. Tools > Import > MAME Arcade Full Set. 😞 However, assuming that's not the end of the world the games have all been imported and I've selected MAME as my emulator. Screenshots attached to (hopefully) show that's configured correctly: Screen 1: Screen 2: However, when I'm in BigBox (or LaunchBox) I try and load the game and it starts to look good, but then never loads and goes back to the game selection screen. I have loaded MAME separately and launched the same game and it loads and runs perfectly. Again, any ideas would be greatly appreciated as I guess I'll need to do this for all the various emulators. JoeViking245
Change the Default Command-Line Parameters (ref: "Screen 1") to: -keyboardprovider dinput -rompath %romlocation% ..and un-check the box for Extract ROM archives before running. In "Screen 2", un-check the box for Extract ROMs. Click OK to save these changes. Play games. 1 hour ago, RetroGoat said: I guess I'll need to do this for all the various emulators. Only if the games for those various emulators don't run.
RetroGoat
That's brilliant, thank you so much @JoeViking245! The games are loading (and running) perfectly. 🙂 I'll need to do the same for the consoles now, as the default RetroArch ones (was default when importing my ROM's) are running terribly on my setup for some reason. It's a Surface Book 2 with a discreet GTX 1050m and an i7-8650U, so I'm expecting (with the right emulators) it will run most things pretty well. Thanks again to you both and I'll trawl through the emulator guides to help me with the rest of the setup. 🙂
