Can't configure core files?

So when I import roms, the core always defaults to RetroArch, which works most of the time.  With MAME arcade games it's hit or miss.  I try loading RetroArch and load the proper core that works with the game.  However it doesn't save the core that it uses for that particular game.  Or, it does with RetroArch itself, but when launching the game from Launchbox, it doesn't use the core that I saved.

LaunchBox saves its core configuration within the RetroArch emulator window.

To get there, go to Tools > Manage > Emulators

Find your RetroArch emulator from the list and choose Edit.

Click on the Associated Platforms section and you'll find a list of platforms and their associated cores. Choose a different core from the dropdown menu.

If you don't see your platform listed, you can add it to the bottom of the list.

I already tried this.  When choosing a different emulator, it only shows MAME, which does not work with all arcade games.  Are you saying I should manually download many different mame emulators and run it that way?  LB can't use specific RA cores?

The list only shows you the retroarch cores that you have actually downloaded and are in your Retroarch/cores folder. Also id advise to not use Retroarch for MAME its vastly inferior to the standalone mame emulator.

Mame works with all the games it supports, if you are having to use different mame versions for different mame roms then you have a bad mame romset.
