Retroarch Saving Game Status Question

Hi All -

Game: Donkey Kong Country

I wanted to save my status in game progression and followed to tutorials to navigate to Retroarch and flip two settings to auto save the game.

Good news is this worked

Questions (2 of them)

1- What happens if i want to start a new game? do i need to flip those settings back in Retroarch and keep doing that?

2- Does this setting now apply to ALL games that i use in Retroarch? or just the game i chose "Donkey Kong Country"?

The way i set it was in Big Box i launched Open Retroarch and then set it from there.

Sorting this out would make my day!

Thank you in advance

From my tests it looks like this is how it works. RA saves the game status for everything using Retroarch.

any way around this?

Meaning can i save the status for only a specific game ie: donkey kong country?

One more question or thought -

Lets say i want to save DK Country's status.
Step 1: I flip on the settings for save in Retroarch
I play the game and save about 5-6 boards into it.
Its saved

Step 2:
If i flip off the save status in Retroarch to play a new game that i dont want to save,

When i go back to DK Country will it still have my save status? or is that deleted?

I guess i  should test all of this, but figured someone might know.

ok tested

Looks like it deletes my status when removing the save settings.

So - what does everyone else do?

Is there a way to save game status on one particular game without saving game status on other games using the same emulator?

What am i missing here?

any help would be greatly appreciated

Set controller combos in Retroarch for save state and load state and use the button combo while in game. Some advice though, DO NOT rely on save states, when a emulator updates they can, and will break, always use actual in game saves via the games save system if you actually value your saves.

Here is my scenario:

I want to save game status: save the board i am at when i am done playing  example: Donkey Kong Country

However i don't want to apply saving the game status "saving the board i am on" with other games example: Any other game.

neil9000:
"Set controller combos in Retroarch for save state and load state and use the button combo while in game."
Can you explain this a bit more? sorry but i don't understand what this means but i think it sounds like there is an option for what i am looking to do.

Use the botton combo while in game: what is a button combo?
always use the actual game saves via the game save system: What is the game save system?

It sounds like this is what i need, but i have no idea what some of these terms mean.
