zapzoop
Eh, I think there is some confusion, it's good to clarify what's happening. Here's why I thought there was confusion: 25 minutes ago, Retro808 said: We are just contemplating the other side that maybe it was not supposed to allow an import to “unknown platform” all along. Well if that's the case, then that never changed. I can still do the import in any version. It's just in 13.5 onward importing (at least for me), causes other problems. The entries still get imported. Also this: 2 hours ago, Retro808 said: What I think Joe is saying is LB allowing a game to be added and editable without an assigned platform (the way you saw it functioning) was the bug and the team identified and fixed it. This also never changed in any version. I can do that in 13.3 and I can do it in a fresh install of 13.14. What I CAN'T do is do that in 13.5 - 13.14 after I've already imported an older database. This is why I was saying nothing about this was "fixed" since the behavior remains the same in every version. Also this: 18 hours ago, JoeViking245 said: From a different perspective, it'd seem the 'bug' was fixed after v13.3. A game, when imported needs to get added to something. In the case with LaunchBox, a 'Platform'. This game (data) is then saved inside ../LaunchBox/Data/Platforms/platform_name.xml Though technically, you could have a file named ".xml" (no name, just an extension). Why? [To me at least] it doesn't make sense to have a game that doesn't actually belong to a platform. "Platform", being just a name (or placeholder). Be it "Windows" or "Games I don't want to see in the Windows Platform". (Granted, that's kind of a long name.) Blank entries seem to automatically get filed as "Unknown Platform.xml", so a .xml with a blank name was never an issue in any of this to begin with, hence why I thought people were getting confused. Anyway, I'm not trying to be a jackass here, but it felt a bit like I was being gaslit for a second. Edited June 9 by zapzoop
C-Beats
I'll review the Ediit Game window code, we shouldn't be allowing you to save a game entry with a blank platform value. All the codebase assumes that the platform HAS a value in it and so not adding one can cause a lot of unforeseen issues. I've jotted it down as something to look into. However just now, I did some testing and see that it is [LaunchBox version 13.14]. (No gaslighting involved. Just ignorance on my part.) This could be kind of useful (for whatever personal reason someone may have). A sort of pseudo 'hide games'. A game(s) that you add and leave the platform blank gets placed into "Unknown Platform". "Unknown Platform" does not appear in the Left Panel in LaunchBox. No matter the view. When you go to Tools - Manage - Platforms, "Unknown Platform" does not show up there. If you select "All" in the Left Panel, and select the Filter [icon] - 'Platforms', "Unknown Platform" will not appear there either. But... When in "All", the game that you manually added [1st bullet], it will be there. (Can use the 'search' filter to find it easily). The game will appear in automatically generated playlists if it meets the criteria of that playlist. Except: Platform - Is Equal To - Unknown Platform This is just my observation and findings.
