When Did Launchbox Functionality Change: One Instance

I have a very unique use case where I run multiple instances of LaunchBox on the same computer, simultaneously. It has been some time since I updated this computer, so when the latest version of LaunchBox was installed, it got rid of the ability to run multiple instances. Now, additional instances will wait for the initial instance to exit before loading LB/BB. I'm not expecting this issue to be addressed, as my use case is quite unique. However, I would like to know when the functionality changed so that I can revert to an older version.

You've definitely been able to have more than one instance. However, now files are locked for writing and new instances cannot load as long as they're locked.

I suppose that I'll start going through my updates directory and reinstall older versions to try to figure it out which update did it.

Looking at the Change Log, the multiple instances of LaunchBox/BigBox had some 'safety checks' added in version 5.3.

Fixed: Added some safety checks to make sure that LaunchBox and Big Box are not running at the same time (nor can more than one instance of either run at the same time), which can cause serious problems with data corruption, etc.

Ok, this didn't take long to track down...  I only had to go back 2 versions to find one that works.

  • 13.14 works for my purposes
  • 13.15 throws an error when trying to load a 2nd instance. "No write permissions to launchbox folder."
  • 13.16 doesn't throw errors...  The application waits in the background until the first instance is closed, at which point it loads. This might be considered a bug... Even if not using it for my purpose, this could lead to someone having a bunch of instances running without a window.
