Im still getting this issue.  After I close any game, Launchbox will automatically close with it and I have to start it up again.  Will logs show what the issue is?

My specs are as follows:

Launchbox 13.17

Windows 11 Home
Processor:    Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-10700K CPU @ 3.80GHz   3.79 GHz
GPU: Nvidia 4070 Super
Installed RAM:    32.0 GB

Hi @51mm5 thanks for the update and apologies for the issue here. May I confirm a few things to try and get to the bottom of this:

- Your original issue mentioned that LaunchBox closes or crashes, whenever you close a games. Do you happen to know which one it is (i.e are any error messages being displayed),

- Under Tools > General do you have any of the following options checked (Minimise LaunchBox when launching games OR Restore LaunchBox when exiting games)?

- Does this happen for every game, regardless of platform, or do some games not exhibit the issue?

- Your original post mentioned that this is something that only started happening recently. I realise it's been a while since then, but is this an issue that happens continuously (i.e it's been like that ever since) or it only sometimes happens?

- If you're able to do a quick screen recording showing the issue, that would be incredibly helpful

Let us know and we'll try to get you sorted.

Cheers,

Thanks for reaching out @AstroBob.  To answer your questions

- Your original issue mentioned that LaunchBox closes or crashes, whenever you close a games. Do you happen to know which one it is (i.e are any error messages being displayed),  - No error message, Launchbox just closes

- Under Tools > General do you have any of the following options checked (Minimise LaunchBox when launching games OR Restore LaunchBox when exiting games)? - Not checked, screenshot provided

- Does this happen for every game, regardless of platform, or do some games not exhibit the issue? - Seems to happen to any game whether native PC game or an emulator

- Your original post mentioned that this is something that only started happening recently. I realise it's been a while since then, but is this an issue that happens continuously (i.e it's been like that ever since) or it only sometimes happens? - Happens 100% of the time

- If you're able to do a quick screen recording showing the issue, that would be incredibly helpful - Video below of me trying a pc game and an emulator

Hi @51mm5

Apologies for my delayed follow-up, and thank you for sharing the video—it’s incredibly helpful for narrowing things down.

From the video, I can see that after launching and quitting a PC game, you need to reopen LaunchBox. However, after launching Pikmin from Dolphin, LaunchBox remains active as expected. Could you confirm if this is the case and share what happens when using other emulators?

If this issue only occurs with PC games, that would significantly help us narrow it down. However, I want to double-check, as you mentioned it seems to happen with any game, whether it’s a native PC game or run through an emulator.

Let me know, and we’ll do our best to get this sorted for you.

Hi @AstroBob no worries I appreciate you looking into this.  The issue occurs with all games/ emulators as far as I can tell.  You’ll see at 1.50 or 7 secs from the end of my video, Launchbox does close by itself after a few seconds after exiting the Dolphin game.  I was thinking is it wort doing a fresh install of Launchbox as in uninstall then reinstall. When I first encountered this issue I tried just reinstalling over the top of the existing version as I was nervous about losing my configuration which has taken some time to setup.  I attached another video to try it with other games.  Interestingly Launchbox shutdown upon Halo Infinite loading as I thought it only occurred on exiting a game so not sure if that may indicate the issue,

Hi there,

Thanks for the additional video. Based on the fact you mentioned re-installing the existing version, I want to confirm the LaunchBox directory is configured properly. Can you go to your LaunchBox directory, and make sure that there isn't an additional LaunchBox folder inside there? When running the updater to re-install you have to be careful to choose the root of your directory, otherwise it will install into LaunchBox/LaunchBox.

Can you confirm what is the filepath of your LaunchBox .exe, and confirm that there is no second LaunchBox directory present?

Cheers,

Hi @AstroBob

Yes I have Lauckbox installed in the root.  I usually launch Lauchbox from a pin on my taskbar, when I go into properties I noticed this

Launchbox is installed under the Core folder with another Launchbox.exe in the route of G:\

Im assuming this is wrong?

I tried Lauching the exe under the root but it still closes/crashes upon exit of a game.  Maybe i need to delete and reinstall?

Hi there,

Thanks for the update! It does seem like something is off with the directory structure. At this point, reinstalling might be the best way to resolve any related issues. Here’s how you can proceed:

    1.    Install a New Instance of LaunchBox
    •    You can find one of the installers in your LaunchBox > Updates directory. Install it as a brand-new instance.

    2.    Test with a Single Game
    •    Add a single game to the new instance and test if the issue persists (e.g., if it still closes after exiting the game).
    •    If the issue does persist, it could indicate a system-level problem causing the behavior.

    3.    Re-import Your Old Library
    •    If the issue doesn’t occur in the new instance, you can re-import your old library. To do this, use the following steps:
    •    Go to Tools > File Management > Create Data Backup in your current setup.
    •    In the new build, use the Restore Data Backup feature to import your library.

    4.    Transfer Media and Emulators
    •    Don’t forget to copy over your Images, Videos, Manuals, and Emulators folders to the new instance to retain your custom content.

Let me know how it goes and if this resolves the issue!
