Custom themes don't work

Recommended Posts

Hello, if I download a custom theme from within BB they work fine but any custom themes I download frm the forums and extract to the theme folder doesn't load at all so BB will default.  I'm downloading the theme zip, extracting it to the theme folder  and then in bb I apply the theme.  Bb says it was applied but nothing happens.  Any help would be great

Make sure when you extract the theme from the zip in it contained in a folder titled as the theme is title. So once extracted the theme should appear in your Windows folder like this: \Launchbox\Themes\[Theme Folder Name]

When you open the theme folder you should see the theme files. Make sure it did not get extracted into a secondary folder.

Go back into BB and go to Settings page then >Options >Vies and see what theme is listed there. If it is not the one you want change it from this screen and see if it worked.

As long as you extract the files from the archive properly there is no need to unblock the properties.

In my opinion it smells like dependencies or dll files that have not been properly unlocked. Make sure to unzip by

right-clicking == properties= and at the bottom you do unlocked. Try again and come tell us.

Also the themes that can be downloaded via BigBox don't work for me. I download them, apply them as main theme but only the menu theme changes not the actual graphical part of the theme. It still keeps the default theme. Any help would be appreciated. Is it a bug?

You may have to change the view type you are using. Not all themes are built to support all the view options BB can do. So if you are using for example: a Horizontal Wheel view and the theme you choose only has support for Vertical Wheel view types. BB will use the Default theme.

I have tried several themes, none of them are working. I have used Launchbox for a long time now, but I have never seen this before. This problem happens on a new installation of Launchbox (13.17) on Windows 10 Enterprise IoT.

I am able to download the theme and after I hit apply as main theme only the menu of the theme has changed but still the default theme is loaded as the graphical interface. It's really a weird issue.

Launchbox is running on it's own SSD which is seperate from the OS NVME. I never had this issue in Windows 11 before.

1) As I said above, it can come from dll files or dependencies that have been unblocked! When you unzip, do you just extract here?

If so, it's not enough (right-click = properties = unblocked) Always unzip a custom in this way!

I know many who have given up and missed the functionality thinking it was due to compression or said that the custom function did not work because they had not read the instructions or because it was not indicated

(moreover I advise all creators to put it in very big (I see too many who give up and who do not even test the theme: it's a shame)

2)Retro808 is right it can come from the views but if it does it to you on all themes it's surprising.

3)If you have time it takes 10 minutes and if you think it comes from the last update you can go back the updates are in a folder in the launchbox folder..

you will be fixed!

Sorry for the confusion but I am reacting in this thread because LaunchBox is behaving exactly the same when installing themes via BigBox. So I am not adding any custom theme via adding folders and unzipping files. I am just using the inbuild user interface to download themes that are presented up there. I download those, apply as main theme and only the menu's are changing not the actual themed user interface. The default theme graphical user interface part is still loading with the newly installed themes menu. I hope this make anything clear? Maybe the themes unzipped via the BigBox menu also have the same issue with DLL's? I am not sure but I am sure non of the BigBox provided themes are working except the default one :(

Ok yes it's a detail but yes it's different so no there's no story of compression if you go through the interface ..^^
I actually had the case for my part of also having a partial switch from one theme to another! it did it when I used a shortcut (when I had assigned a key to the change of themes) I don't know if it's your case but to solve the problem I redid the switch in a "clean" way by going to system = themes = = change view for .. (from memory)

Retro808 basically gave you the answer, but I'll try and clarify for you. I'm fairly certain the reason you are seeing what you are is because your Big Box startup view is set to Game Discovery Center, and custom themes just simply haven't created custom views for it yet. After you change themes, make sure to also switch to another section, like the platform or platform categories sections.

Not all themes have created a custom view for every view file available to them.
