Can't add NAS MAME files in Android version 1.16 but every other platform works

I'm having issues getting MAME Arcade platforms zip files, to load from my NAS Drive (Nvidia Shield 2017 Android TV) in Launchbox on my Pixel 8 Pro running Android the QPR2 Beta update. I've added all my other roms fine eg; SNES, Gameboy, Megadrive ect. But Launchbox crashes when I try to add even one MAME rom. They load fine when the files are loaded locally but not from my NAS drive.

This is the guide I was following: Launchbox Tutorial

Whenever I try to add a Zipped MAME rom, whether it's 1,000's or just one. The application crashes. This happens even when I chose the default options in the Importer or change the options.

I also posted this on Reddit and Astro Bob has been looking into this but I thought I'd also post here so I can include some pictures: Reddit

I'm not sure if this is because of the Android Beta software I'm running, or if this is a bug with Launchbox.

I've just installed the Beta version of LaunchBox and now I see a pop up saying that MAME isn't supported on Network drives? Is this something your hoping to have sorted out in the next couple of months or shall I import locally?

Hi @ChunkyLoverMark thanks for the update. There were some issues around this release regarding importing Arcade over NAS, so apologies if that caused any confusion there.

As you can see though, right now we don't supported importing Arcade platform games over a network drive, due to some of the dependency files that arcade games can require. It's hard to say right now how long and if we'll find an elegant solution to this, so my suggestion would beto  import those locally for now.

Apologies for any confusion caused there.

Cheers,

Hi @AstroBob I was wondering because you said that the biggest issue with this is the dependency. Could you have this NAS feature just support non merged sets of MAME games so each game doesn't have any dependency? That's right isn't it? Non Merged sets are bigger because they include everything that a game needs to play right? So when you download a single game from the NAS it wouldn't need anything else for it to work?

For sure, it's certainly possible. There are many ways we could go about this, another being using the fbneo core, since a lot of those sets also don't require any dependencies.

We're continuing to iterate on the NAS functionality so I wouldn't be surprised if we come back to this in the future, but can't say which approach we would go with.
