Seems to be a lot of issue with 13.19. Probably should have been a Beta release for those that want to be testers.
This is the error I get if I try to open BigBox. Something to think about for your next "big" release. Keep pushing the improvements but maybe communicate with a beta release that a lot of it is untested.

I think most folks know what Beta means.

Yikes.  Yeah seems to be pretty buggy this time, judging by the forum posts.  I haven't even bothered to update yet.  I don't even really pay attention to the update features anymore.  When/if they finally add individual controller-specific navigation mappings for bigbox, so that you can pick up any one of your controllers and navigate bigbox with the profile you've set up per controller, I'll actually be excited to update.  I haven't needed any other feature from an update for quite some time now.

I updated to 13.19 and it prevented Big Box from launching at all. I could get it to randomly work 1 maybe 2 times if I rebooted big box (not the machine) about 20 times.

The only fix was to delete the "core" folder, delete the big box and launchbox exe files in the main folder, then run the 13.18 installer to revert to the older version. It was then, and only then, that I was able to get big box to work 100% of the time.

I tried a new install folder completely and had the same issue. This leads me to believe that the update itself is broken or fails to install a required piece.

Software releases are tough and we know they are working hard. Dont want to discourage the progress. There are a zillion different configurations and its really hard to test them all. Communication is key to success.

Compared to the other updates, 13.19 saw a major SDK change from .NET 6 to .NET 9. This type of jump is bound to have breaking changes and could have used a longer testing cycle during development. I think this is also the first time such a major change was implemented, so there are definitely lessons to be learned here.

The most practical solution as of the moment is a rollback to 13.18 and stay there for a bit, until the defects raised from 13.19 has been ironed out. As someone already said, staying on an older version is not _always_ bad, specially when compatibility/stability is the priority.

It is the same practice I do with major OS upgrades. I did not upgrade to Win11 until it was 11mos later. Early adopters tend to get bitten first with cutting-edge changes.

Unfortunately Launchbox doesnt rollback cleanly. My importation of MAME sets is broken in 13.18 after upgrading to 13.19 and then rolling back to 13.18. Also unless you kept 13.18 sitting around you would be kinda stuck as its no longer available.

That would be a nice feature

I know. I deleted the contents of the Updates/ directory to save space and had to contact LB Support to send me an installer. I was able to find it from another website called UpToDown before the support team responded, so I was at least able to verify the SHA1/MD5 with the one they sent.
