When loading any 4:3 Mame games, by default the artwork bezel looks fine but the Mame game loads in 16:9. The only way to make the game look right is to change the video settings in the game to 4:3, which removes the artwork bezel.

How can the games be launched so the aspect ratio is correct while also keeping the bezel artwork?

I have the same issue.  New install of Launchbox 13.20, Mame games run fine however if its a Vertical game like 1942 the Bezels look great but the game is stretched and covers the screen.  *See attached. In 4:3 ratio the game looks great but no Bezels

It has previously been reported the lay files for vertical games in MAME are bugged. You will either have to manually edit them until the LaunchBox team corrects this, or use the Bezel Project Windows app to install the MAME bezels, which should be correct. I have attached a lay file for vertical MAME games you can use for reference to your lay files.

There may be an issue where some settings in MAME can stretch the game image to fit the entire screen, causing distortion (especially in vertical games like 1942). When you enable bezels, some overlay or layout settings are not compatible with the native 4:3 ratio, causing the entire screen to be filled.

Load the game in MAME, press the ~ key and scroll until you find vertical stretch, and lower it until the game fits the bezel.

I'm using a shader that has a bit of a curvature so i don't know if it's gonna be the same but usually setting the vertical stretch to 570 fixes all of them.
