Matrix2525 Posted February 12 Posted February 12 So, I've been using the Launchbox database as a source to find various game media for a while, and finally just made an account. Recently, I've been making recreations of front covers, as well as some custom covers, for various Sega CD and Saturn games, and was hoping to add them to the database to share. I may just not know where to look, but I couldn't find any specific explanations of the media categories and what falls under what. I feel like most or all of what I submit will fall under the fanart category, but the only other category to make me pause was the "Box - Front - Reconstructed." I searched various games and found a slew of results under that category, with some images of the front cover of a game inside the entire game box, to covers that looked stretched for a dvd case vs. the original game case. So, what is that category supposed to be for? Most of the covers I've created, I've done so with the intention of matching the original retail cover, remade from scratch using high quality assets and matching the original form factor, hence being a recreation, or "reconstruction" of the original game cover. Would those covers fall under this category, or is it meant for something else? My other question is, are covers for game mods/translations accepted. Specifically, I have two covers for the Saturn version of Castlevania Symphony of the Night Ultimate, the English translation and improvement mod for the game. There are several fan covers already, but none include the "Ultimate" subtitle as a variation. I have two variations for both a US style release, and a Europe/PAL region release. Also, I feel like my covers are fairly high resolution. Long boxes are ~1200 x 2000 pixels, and jewel cases are 2000 x 2000 pixels. I would greatly appreciate some advice so I dont mis-submit anything. In fact, I guess I can attach a few for anyone to look at. 2 Quote

Correct, these would go under Box - Reconstructed category. 9 hours ago, Matrix2525 said: My other question is, are covers for game mods/translations accepted. They are allowed, these would go under Fanart - Box category since they are custom covers. Edited February 12 by Jakatsu 1 Quote
Rlad Posted February 12 Posted February 12 The community decided 'entire game boxes' would go in reconstructed because there's no other category for them. 1 Quote
Matrix2525 Posted February 12 Author Posted February 12 Thank you both for the helpful replies and information. I'll start submitting my covers as soon as I have time. Quote
Suhrvivor Posted February 12 Posted February 12 The thing about custom covers in the database is that there's not a reliable way to download a particular version of a custom cover style, you either don't download them or you download them all. Then you'll have to check one by one and select the ones you want to keep. For custom media, I think it's better if you just packed them all into a zip file and upload it to the forum's download section. 1 Quote
Rlad Posted February 12 Posted February 12 True, they are supposed to be adding tags though which would help with that. Quote

I don't see why I can't do both. I'm still pretty new to using launchbox itself and how it pulls media from the database, but I use other gaming library-oriented programs as well, and I'm used to customizing artwork and media I use, and it's been great to use the database website as a resource and browse all the media for various titles that people have uploaded. In fact, some of the covers I've worked on use game artwork that I've found on the database here that seemingly haven't been uploaded anywhere else I could find, or not in as good a quality. So, it still seems worthwhile to submit custom covers for anyone browsing the website, whether or not they download all the media for a given title in launchbox directly. On the other hand, I don't see any reason not to share the same covers on the forum here, given there's an appropriate section to do so. 2 Quote
