Strange behaviour on Xemu - some games work launched directly but not through LB?

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

I've just set up Xemu. All the games I've tried to launch have worked fine. All except "King of Fighters 2003, The (USA, Japan).iso" and "King of Fighters 2002, The (USA, Europe).iso" they just freeze on this screen (below) and don't draw the "Xbox" -> "Loading" part of the animation. However, (and this is the strange part), if I launch either of the games directly through Xemu they work fine? My emulator settings are below but I've experimented with a few different variations but to no avail so far. Any ideas?

Try...

  • Run KOF 2003 directly through Xemu.
  • Exit
  • In your Xemu emulator folder
    • rename the file xemu.log to [something like] xemu-direct.log
  • Launch KOF 2003 from LB
  • Exit [the game]
  • In your Xemu emulator folder
    • rename the [the new] xemu.log file to [something like] xemu-LB.log
  • Compare the 2 files and see what (if anything) is different

You'll probably want to break down the 1st line**, as it's one long arse line.  And can probably ignore the lines below it after comparing (at least) the 2 "xemu_settings_get...." lines.

** break down to something readable. e.g.

A big thanks for the suggestion...

Directly launching the title (which works) gives me this:

Created QEMU launch parameters:
D:\LaunchBox Arcade\Emulators\Xemu\xemu.exe -machine xbox,
bootrom=D:\LaunchBox Arcade\Emulators\Xemu\bios\mcpx_1.0.bin,
kernel-irqchip=off,
avpack=hdtv -device smbus-storage,
file=D:\LaunchBox Arcade\Emulators\Xemu\eeprom.bin -bios D:\LaunchBox Arcade\Emulators\Xemu\bios\Complex_4627v1.03.bin -m 64 -drive index=0,
media=disk,
file=D:\LaunchBox Arcade\Emulators\Xemu\saves\xbox_hdd.qcow2,
locked=on -drive index=1,
media=cdrom,
file= -display xemu -device usb-hub,
port=1,
ports=4

Launching via LB which hangs at the intro animation gives me:

Created QEMU launch parameters:
D:\LaunchBox Arcade\Emulators\Xemu\xemu.exe -machine xbox,
bootrom=D:\LaunchBox Arcade\Emulators\Xemu\bios\mcpx_1.0.bin,kernel-irqchip=off,
avpack=hdtv -device smbus-storage,
file=D:\LaunchBox Arcade\Emulators\Xemu\eeprom.bin -bios D:\LaunchBox Arcade\Emulators\Xemu\bios\Complex_4627v1.03.bin -m 64 -drive index=0,
media=disk,
file=D:\LaunchBox Arcade\Emulators\Xemu\saves\xbox_hdd.qcow2,
locked=on -drive index=1,
media=cdrom,
file=Z:\Microsoft\Microsoft Xbox\King of Fighters 2003,, The (USA,, Japan).iso -display xemu -device usb-hub,
port=1,
ports=4 -full-screen

The correct filename is "King of Fighters 2003, The (USA, Japan).iso"

I'm still none the wiser as to the issue here? Maybe something to do with the commas?

Thanks for all your help.

Did you actually start the 'game' directly from Xemu before exiting? Because it's not indicating a file (game) was started.

Sure you are. You noticed the commas. ;)

Edit your KOF 2003 game in LB that you're testing with and verify the path (and more so, the filename) to the ROM in the Launching section.

King of Fighters 2003,, The (USA,, Japan).iso  vs.  King of Fighters 2003, The (USA, Japan).iso

Thanks Joe. I had thought that the comma-comma was delimiting the commas? But maybe not.

I'm actually just about to hit the hay as I'm up in a few hours for a very early flight away for a few days but, I'm back Weds night and will try this out on Thursday hopefully.

I also thought about starting up one of the games that 'does' work from LB and then comparing that Log file to the log of the one that doesn't.

I think you're right though - the commas are most likely culprit but I'll investigate on my return. I will post back with results.

Thanks again for the great help. I would never have known about using the log files for fault finding etc if it hadn't been for you. Cheers :)
