linux Posted June 13 Posted June 13 Faulting module: ntdll.dll Exception code: 0xc0000374 Happens after some duration (Not sure how long, est 1 hour the last time it happened) with BigBox hidden behind a fullscreen game Attract mode is off Logs folder is empty Never changed focus, I dont have xbox game bar or nvidia overlays running. The game didn't crash, just big box and I have no idea why. It has happened a few times too many for me to question why at this point. Looking for help understanding the root cause of this error from the community. Thank you! Quote
linux Posted June 13 Author Posted June 13 Update, new exception code causing the crash today. Is this a bug with big box? New exception code: 0xc0000409 Faulting module: unknown Confirmed not game specific Happens after ~1 hour with BigBox hidden behind any fullscreen game Two different exception codes across crashes suggesting memory corruption building up over time Quote
linux Posted June 14 Author Posted June 14 Checked resource memory and confirm a memory leak somewhere from big box. Baseline memory at launch: ~1.15GB commit After 13 minutes with game running: ~1.52GB commit Rate: ~27MB/minute leak Crashes at ~60 minutes or so, consistent with memory exhaustion Is this related to BigBox's video/image caching pipeline? Attract mode is off and I use the one of the standard themes. Quote
roaddog1088 Posted June 17 Posted June 17 My big box keeps crashing as well after an hour or 2, very annoying. Quote
Jabb3rJaw Posted June 18 Posted June 18 This is a known issue and I have reported it as well. Hopefully a fix is in the works soon!! Quote
SatiricCandy Posted June 19 Posted June 19 This is fun. Editing anything has become a complete crapshoot. My cabinet project is delayed indefinitely because every time I try to make a configuration change, it crashes. There are brief moments when it seems to work, but after a few minutes, the next time I try to adjust a setting, it fails again. $80 folks. 2026. Quote
linux Posted Monday at 03:24 AM Author Posted Monday at 03:24 AM I gave up and moved onto playnite. The UI is more impressive in my opinion also and customizing everything to be like big box is possible also in my limited use with it. Shame, because I paid for Launchbox and it served me well for a while but I always had random memory issues, just not as frequently since the last update. I tried a fresh install and rolling back but nothing helped.. Quote

My experience has been great with launchbox over the last 12 years. that playnite looked decent, but i dunno. Quote

linux Posted Monday at 05:13 PM Author Posted Monday at 05:13 PM (edited) I had my launchbox for about the same time and I agree that my overall experience was good. I don't hate it or anything, but I did experience intermittent issues which are well documented all over the community regarding the memory issues. Primarily when returning from sleep and more recently in BigBox more frequently with the latest updates. As mentioned, I moved onto Playnite and found the frontend experience very similar(both in desktop and full screen modes) except that the issues went away when using Playnite. Additionally, another positive was that the Playnite program loads in about 4-5 seconds every time I launch it despite my library is massive (includes artwork and trailers). Both LaunchBox and BigBox took a lot longer to load up. I probably would have stayed on Launchbox if it wasn't for the memory issues because I didn't particularly enjoy setting everything up from ground zero. That said, I am glad I did because I am starting to feel that Playnite is a better UI overall. Edited Monday at 05:16 PM by linux Quote
Jabb3rJaw Posted 21 hours ago Posted 21 hours ago I’m was a Hyperspin user but that was getting ridiculous so I switched to launchbox/Bigbox and it was great. Now with the random crashing I’m keeping a close eye on the Hyperspin 2 beta. Looks promising. Quote
SatiricCandy Posted 18 hours ago Posted 18 hours ago I fixed my crashing issue by reinstalling Launchbox. I don't know why the issue was happening, but Bigbox seems functional now. I also reinstalled BannerBox after the reinstall. Quote
