Nintendo Game & Watch Database need to be fixed by separating games that are not Nintendo to their own category / Platform

Hello. I wonder if possible to fix the Nintendo Game & Watch Database? I'm trying to add some electronic games and LCD handhelds games to my LaunchBox database collection, but I am seeing that a lot of them are already on the Nintendo Game & Watch database even when they are not made by Nintendo or even an LCD or mini arcade like the Game & Watch. These games need their own category to keep everything organized. I suggest adding the following categories or Platforms;

• Tiger Electronic LCD Games
• Casio LCD Games
• Konami LCD Games
• Electronic Table-Top / Mini Arcade

There are a lot of Generic or unknow LCD games brands that can be put into a single platform like LCD Handheld Game

This has been a bit of an annoyance of mine for a while. These need to be separated out. Having them all filed under Game & Watch is incredibly misleading.

Tried looking in the Feature Requests for something similar. To no avail.

Handheld Electronic games platform

There's a problem with how handheld electronic games are categorized that needs a better solution. Currently it seems like non-software-based handheld electronic games (not true platforms like Gameboy, PSP, etc) are supposed to be put in the Nintendo Game and Watch platform, which is currently defined as a kind-of “catch all” for single-use handheld electronic games. This is confusing and unintuitive for many, and so we get games being miscategorized frequently.

For example, a large number of Tiger-branded electronic games being put in the "Tiger Game.com" platform, which is wrong because that category is for the software-based Game.com platform cartridges, not random single use handheld games.

I'd argue that the Nintendo Game and Watch platform should really be re-named as a generic Handheld Electronic platform, as it's more accurate and would reduce this confusion. Game and Watch isn't really a platform per se, it's a brand of similarly-styled single game releases, along with similar Tiger, Mattel, Coleco and other brands who did handheld electronic games. However, if we can't/won't do that, we should at least make it more clear in the platform name that it's where single-use, non-software-based handheld games are supposed to go. There are dozens of mis-assigned Tiger handheld games in the Game.com platform because of this problem.

I see a few options:

• Rename the Nintendo Game and Watch platform to “Handheld Electronic” and keep Game and Watch games there as they are single-use non-software based games.

• Same as above but rename it to “Handheld Electronic (Nintendo Game and Watch)” or similar to make it clearer. This is basically what RetroArch does… they use “Handheld Electronic (GW)” as their core name.

• Create a new “Handheld Electronic” platform and move everything that’s not Game and Watch from the current platform to the new one, keeping Game and Watch separate. I don’t like this honestly, as I’ve said before I don’t think Game and Watch is really a platform per se.

• Something else?

 

 

I think it boils down to:

1. We need a "Platform" for misc Handheld Electronic games
2. We need to decide if things like Nintendo Game & Watch, Tiger LCD games, Konami LCD games, etc are actually "platforms" or if they're just a brand name for similarly styled games

I would say Game & Watch is both distinct enough and historically relevant enough to be its own category. The others maybe not so much.
