theres alot more too the gun drive than just roms and emulators

Can you expand on this a little?

I mean, for lightgun games there's the ROMs and emulators (or .exe games). The only other thing off hand I can think of is DemulShooter and your output hook app of choice (MAMEHooker, HOTR, QMAMEHook, OutputHooker [my choice].  But these are 3rd party apps that don't get integrated into LB itself.

There is a plugin for DemulShooter which I suppose would technically be integrated. If you use it.  I suppose you could also set the Hook app to start when LB/BB starts (Tools < Options < General < Startup Applications).  Which is what I do (because it has such a small footprint and uses minimal resources).

If you created a bunch of static playlists, those may need to be recreated [when moved from one build to the other]. If they're dynamic, then they should be ok.

If you're really nervous, you could... make a copy of your main LB build (the LB folder structure itself).  Then start copying or adding stuff from the lightgun build into the copy.  This way your 2 original builds are still intact in case something gets messed up.

Option "B", install a new 'build', and add from both into it.

1 build is mine and another isnt, i was wondering about the hook and gun settings, maybe the emulators are named the same.

i have a lg build (not LB) but i just have the exe in lb as a light gun game but i want everything in 1 and not to boot another front end. (new one is launchbox)

it also has an update function which is fine, i can keep the integrated 1 and the separate 1 and update the separate 1 when needed and copy over the newer files.

could i just make a playlist for the other drive and keep things simple?

No.  In order to have playlists in LaunchBox, the games have to have already been imported into a platform.

So the lightgun build is not using LaunchBox as its frontend?  Merging 2 different frontends is not really a practical thing to do.  You'd be best to just [manually] add the lightgun emulators and games to your LB build.

Since your LB build was from a pre-built drive, you may need to learn how to do that.  Which really, isn't that difficult.

The LaunchBox Strategy Guide can help with that just like it previously did for you in the Troubleshooting LaunchBox & Big Box Performance section. Go here and look under Getting Started.
LaunchBox for Windows - LaunchBox

Amongst the multitude of information, there's a section for Single Platform Imports and one for Multi-Platform Imports another for Setting Up an Emulator Manually.  But would probably be best to start reading from the top and work your way down.

I just use retroarch for all the gun games I can for my sinden gun as gun and controller configs are separate there, and since I use megabezels, I can just make content directory overrides that display their integrated sinden border and content directory remaps since I have gun games in subfolders within platform folders. For the rest like pcsx2, model 2 and 3, as well as dolphin I use a another emulator only for gun games as I find it easier to manage the specific config and can have reshade display a border automatically as well for them.

In Bigbox you can't remap keyboard and mouse iirc so I adapted the sinden mappings in the sinden software directory to be able to navigate Bigbox with the gun.

So yes you can easily merge builds, just need to point the games in LaunchBox to use the correct emulator.

Im assuming both arcades are windows, for file compatibility. Give claude AI the main config files of the lightgun HDD zipped. Then ask it if there will be any issues with copying and pasting these files onto your main arcade HDD so you can launch the games using Launchbox.

Note: I asked claude AI a similar question and it said there would be issues. It already knows my setup, so that answer is more specific to me.
