About This File

UPDATE 1 - Added Extreme Hunting 2, KenJu & Force Five

UPDATE 2 (11/08/2024) - Major update to folders for easy placement into the root folders of RA & LB. Everything is soooo much easier. Lightgun games can now be simply switched between Controllers & Lightguns. Inputs & Images are the same as the standalone pre config for consistency. Issue mitigations with content directory .cfg files. NEW install video coming very soon. The old one is now outdated.

Lets not mess about with this one. If you are familiar with what I do then you know you are getting a quality pre configuration that has been researched and tested to death.

I spend hours doing this so you don't have to. Creating configurations for play....not display.

As you are most likely aware, arcade platforms are a pain to setup. Controls aren't standardised and changing settings via test menus can be tiresome.

What this pre configuration gives you:

Firstly I want to talk about audio separately. More to the point just how ear bleedingly loud these games are and how they care not for your main device volume.
So I have lowered the volume on a per game basis in their test menus so you don't have to reach for the volume control or wince every time you start a game.
Most of these games are in MONO by default. I have changed all of these to be in STEREO.

Controls have been scrutinised and tested and revised and tested again. I haven't just set whatever. If a fighting game has a modern port or counterpart I have mapped it to the default layout for that modern version. Everything else has been mapped to be as intuitive as possible, and I have provided layout images so you need never be lost with buttons again.

-2 Player Mouse/Light Gun Ready
-All Extra & Hidden Characters unlocked. There are 7 games with unlockable content
-Censored content like blood is now uncensored
-Analogue Volume adjusted for the racing games. This ensures a 1:1 analogue range for the steering and pedals on a controller (makes racers steering less twitchy)
-All games in English
-All games set to Free Play
-Controls pre configured with layout images for reference and frontends.
-Light gun games calibrated for both players
-Audio lowered on a per games basis
-All games in Stereo
-Sega Clay Shooting has native widescreen and has been setup for 16:9

INSTRUCTIONS:

  • I have only configured for the parent versions
  • Download RetroArch Files - Control Images & PlatformXML
  • Place unzipped config & saves folders into the root folder of RetroArch
  • Place unzipped Data & Images folders into the root of LaunchBox
  • ENJOY!!! Intuitive controls and everything unlocked.

Here is the documentation for this configuration. Everything I have done on a per game basis is listed here.
I have also provided any passwords, engineers codes, cheat codes and important information here also.
This is a consolidation of information.

-Light Gun for mouse calibrated and accurate. Did not register trigger properly until calibrated.
-You can only shoot when moving the mouse due to mercury switches in the real light guns for the cabinet. They detect if you have the rifle pointed up-ish. So as a result you can only shoot when the mouse is moving. Like real trap shooting you have to track the target and shoot. There is an Infrared Gun Type option in the game bios however this doesn't work

Thank you for this...however, i can not get the shooting games working with the mouse?

Is this rawinput related? And if so is there a way of turning it off?

Thanks

Yes it is rawput related most likely. Just delete the .cfg for the light gun games and they'll use your main configuration instead. Don't forget to set the gun inputs in RA with no content loaded if you haven't already.
Also, 2 Player mouse input only works with rawinput .

I've had another go at it today and managed to get it working by removing the aspect_ratio_index = "1: 16:9" in the config files and using 2 GUN4IR instead of a mouse. Thanks for your reply and keep doing what your doing! Its awsome! 👍

That aspect_ratio_index = "1: 16:9" is only on Sega Clay Challenge as it has native widescreen which has been activated in the test menu. It shouldn't have any effect on the input. Cheers mate

Thank you for all this amazing work. My new launchbox build for some reason wont load your remap files. Not sure what I changed. When a game starts it only shows that it loaded the config and not the mappings? Works on my other pcs.

Hi @Warped Polygon,

Once again, another high quality config release. You are doing God's work 😁

I have noticed that Metal Slug 6 always had low brightness by default.
However, there's an option on the Debug Menu that can put boost the brightness of the game and it makes a huge difference.

See attached screenshots for the menu steps to achieve this.

Can you help and modify the existing NVRAM for this game to have maximum brightness?

That would be amazing! Keep up the great work!

Excellent timing. Just about to release this into the standalone build. I'll make sure to do this. Even if you are still using this RA version you'll be able to use the updated NVRAMs from the standalone build.

Cheers mate

That screen brightness one doesn't save, there is a few options in the debug menu dip switches that don't save, you can turn them on when playing, but once you shut down they will reset, same goes for full auto, invincibility and others

Are you 100% sure? Because I have the Dreamcast port of Metal Slug 6 and they managed to save the NVRAM with full automatic fire; when the game boots, the character has turbo fire basically; so I was hoping that the same would apply for the Brightness hack.

Yes those are done in cheat engine, they have no nvram for Dreamcast, just like kenju or asking about, has both extra character unlock and both extra LVL in Dreamcast conversion, but can't in arcade one, I tried on my own for metal slug and only red blood saves, most or all the extras and nvram for mame extra come from me, that warp has posted,

Ok understood. Would be great if somehow we could activate those cheats in Retroarch...
Do you know how to access the debug menu in Metal slug 6 in the arcade version? I wanted to change the brightness and then do a Quick Save. That way, next time I boot the game, I just load the quick save. Thanks!

Have forgotten but a quick yt video will tell you, but needs p1 and p2 controllers, and only works once in awhile, so takes a bunch of tries to get it to go, since required 3 buttons pressed at same time, which these emulator don't like

Superb, many thanks. I just copied the files into an Andoid AYN Odin setup and it's mostly looking good, apart from the light gun games of course but I'll set those up on the analogue stick for some extra challenge.
