  1. I'd like to minimize the size & number of my media files without negatively impacting what Big Box might use. Obviously different themes can use different media files, so the answer might depend on which theme I'm using (Unified Refried is my current default). On the other end of the spectrum, I'd like to make sure my theme has all the media types it needs to do its thing. Is there a general way to figure this out? I don't think I've ever come across a list of that info, although I'm not sure if I just missed it or not.
  2. Thanks for the response. Yeah, the only thing I'm worried about not syncing are things like my ScummVM games, which, in the past, I've used EpicFail's ScummVM Launcher, but that makes .bat files that give a specific path, as opposed to a path that is relative to LaunchBox's folder structure. I need to look into it more. I think there might have been some other examples along those lines, but they're not too common, and with a bit of work, I think I can work around it.
  3. Wasn't 100% sure how LaunchBox stores its settings, and I wasn't sure if there was a cross-over in the file that they both refer to. For instance, ScvummVM stores an ini file in a generic spot of your file structure, so unless you use a command line parameter, ScvummVM references that no matter where ScummVM is installed. I'm mostly just worried about cross-cominating between the 2 copies I have on my computer. Related question - is there a recommended path to store LaunchBox in as an optimal way to make/keep it portable? I plan on giving a copy of my LaunchBox to a friend, and I want them to be able to just drag & drop the folder, and have everything be all setup. I'm guessing the best method would be to just make it like, D:\LaunchBox, and that way, at long as they have room on their D Drive (assuming they have one), they can just place it there & everything will match up. Currently it's in my "users" folder, and since that has a very specific path to it, I think it's not for the best (mostly in terms of ScummVM stuff). Speaking of buying copies, how do I buy a copy in their name? I looked at the buy option, and the first thing it asked me for was my name & address, so I didn't want to go any further to see if there was an option for naming the license to someone (I don't remember the details when I bought my copy).
  4. Ok, a little update - I tried a different rom pack, and BINGO, problem solved. So yeah, if you're having issues with Neo Geo, make sure to check that along with your bios & libretto.
  5. That was the kind of thing I was leaning towards, since everything else was ruled out... but I wasn't sure if it worked that way for Neo Geo roms. I know they're kind of funky. I got my Amiga & TI 99 4/a games running, so I must be doing something right, at least...
  6. So at this point, I'm not even trying to get this to work from within LaunchBox, I've just been trying to get it to work in RetroArch first. I followed the various tutorials, making sure to download the fbalpha_libretro, as well some of the other arcade related libretros. I also placed the bios files that worked in NeoRage into the Neo Geo rom folder (neogeo.zip, I also had a uni-bios 1.3.zip file from NeoRage). When that didn't work, I tried moving it into the system folder in RetroArch. I even tried placing the bios in a bios folder (someone on one of the YouTube videos claimed this worked, but it didn't for me). When all of that didn't work, I tried downloading other neogeo.zip bios (different file sizes, so I know they're different). Now, I should also point out that I can open the very same files in NeoRage, so I know the problem isn't the rom files (unless there's something about it that I don't know). I can also open all sorts of other files in RetroArch, including arcade games (struggled with a few, but obviously that can be very specific to the rom/bios). So I know RetroArch works... I make sure to load the core before loading the zip file in RetroArch. The error message I get for every Neo Geo zip file is "Failed to load content". I'm not quite sure what I'm doing wrong, especially when there are a number of variables at play (just to cover the bases, yes, I leave the zip files intact).
  7. Thanks, and thanks for the video guide! I actually found that last night, but saw that it was from 2013 (I think), wasn't sure if it was still valid. I use Shadowplay for recording, and while the video quality looks good to me, I'm not enough of a videophile to know if it's not accurate enough.
  8. Just made a clear logo for Sierra games based off of what I assume is the Apple IIe logo for a bit of an old school feel.
  9. Are there are guidelines for making movies for EmuMovies? I.E. specific settings that's recommended (1080p mp4 format, etc...)? I have Sony Vegas Pro 14.0, so I don't think it should be hard to get the right settings, but I want to make sure I get it right.
  10. ha, I love the "ScummVM Backup Disc"! I'm thinking about making my own videos for the ScummVM games I have. Kind of unfortunate that Emu Movies doesn't have many associated (at least for the one I own). I saw the Snap Packs, but I think I have some specific things in mind, like using the Roland intro music for King's Quest III.
  11. Thanks @Klopjero, it's all setup now. I'm using ScummVM 2.0. Even have the Roland roms installed for Rolland emulation. Really makes the games sound richer. Now I'm debating if & how I want to go about having the game manuals/copyright cheat sheets load with games like King's Quest IV (which has a manual based copyright protection), and the manual for King's Quest III, which is required for typing in the spells when you cast them. For normal Launch Box, I have the manual linked up in the info, and for King's Quest IV, I have the cheat sheet pdf (which came with my GOG version of the game) launched as an additional app. Is there a way to have the cheat sheet display automatically on the other monitor when I launch the game? I could just tell Launch Box that the image of the cheat sheet is the box cover, but that would mess up the box art. Edit: I need to rewatch the video about adding additional apps. I remember there was some details in it that would help me figure that out.
  12. Been using Launch Box for awhile now, but only just got the full version on the Black Friday sale. I'm LOVING all of the features that I wasn't full aware of, but that does meaning learning to get the most out of it. So I downloaded a Mike Tyson's Punch Out video from Emu Movies, but it's 50 megs. Downloaded the SMB 2 music, but that was 8 megs. As much as I love the quality, that could add up very quickly. This leads me to a few questions: 1. Is there a way to add a video for a specific console that will play any time a game for that console is selected in Big Box mode? I.E. if I choose Contra for the NES, it will play a generic NES video. 2. I used the tool "download platform/playlist theme video" for all my systems, thinking that it would do what I was looking for in the first question. What does this actually do? 3. What image types would you recommend downloading for Big Box mode in order to avoid downloading images that it won't use/need, but that covers its basics (like backgrounds, for instance)? 4. I really enjoyed having the SMB 2 music playing when I select it, but again, I don't want to have an 8 meg file for each specific game. With thousands of games, that also fills up fast. Is there a way to have a playlist of music for each system that will randomly play instead of only for specific games? Obviously, this could overlap with videos playing, so I'd probably just choose one or the other, but I want to my options. Edit: 5. Also, what is "attract mode"? I have it enabled, set it to 10 seconds, but it never kicks in. When is it supposed to work? Anyways, I love all the work the community puts into making Launch Box filled with customization, so consider that a preemptive "thanks"!
  13. So I'm trying to figure this out for myself. I already have a standalone copy of ScummVM installed, and when I launch the Launchbox version, it refers to the standalone version's of the ini file, so it populates Launchbox's ScummVM with the standalone version. This is handy, but like InfinityFox, I want to make it portable, and I also don't want it to interfere with my standalone version of ScummVM (there are some games on the standalone version that are too big for me to want to include in a portable version of Launchbox). Do I have to specify the full path or is there a way to have it look in its own directory? In other words, my username folder is a different name on my laptop than my PC, which is where Launchbox is installed on both my desktop & laptop. So using scummvm -c C:\Users\MyDesktopUserNameHere\ Launchbox\ScummVM \scummvm.ini would only work for my desktop, but not my laptop. Obviously, I could just change that on my laptop, but I want a truly portable version of Launchbox where I can just drag & drop, and have everything all preconfigured so that I don't forget each time I do it. Any idea if there's a command line parameter that looks in Launchbox's version's directory?
