Suggestions for improving the automatic import tool in LB.
Sinfire replied to OdinsPlayground's topic in Features
If you are excluding systems and directories.. Does that not defeat the purpose of auto-importing? How does the system handle directories that are on different volumes? -
I have this feature turned on and hoping to test it out soon... I am curious.. 1 - How does the system know what the rom is? There are several naming conventions out there used by the Rom Utilities. Do we need to have the names renamed to a certain standard? or is launchbox able to somehow figure out the game based on size, file signature, etc 2 - What happens to the games it does not match? Do you get a report or some log file saying these files were found but it was not imported? 3 - I see options to add games to the system.... and another option to remove games... Why not have a sync option that syncs (adds and deletes) games based on the files that are in the directory instead of having to do 2 separate steps?

When I am adding a new game, I type in the name in the search box, and the metadata search does it's thing and returns a bunch of results for that game... Is there a way to have that list filtered to just the system I am trying to add the game to? Right now if I search for like "Saints Row" while trying to add that game to my PS4 collection, The metadata search returns at least 20 different versions of Saints row from various different systems like Windows, Xbox, etc. Then it takes time to scroll through the list to match the game title, system, etc to the one I want to add. Is there a way to filter that list so it only shows PS4 games and not all the other systems?

I was watching a YouTube video yesterday where Jason Car was giving a tour of his office and was talking about his arcade machine build.. In the video, he stated that all the information and details of his build, the issues he encountered, etc were all in the forum.... So I came into these forums and I do not see a single message board that talks about physical arcade builds. So scanning around some random boards, I saw the Killer Instinct build, but that is about it. Where would I find all that info Jason was talking about? Is there not a forum where people discuss the physical hardware side of the emulation hobby? IE: Talk about their arcade machine build, etc?

From what I read… webp is the new improved standard for web images that makes much more efficient and versatile than the old jpg, tif, png formats.

Over the past year, I have noticed a lot of sites that are now switching over to using WEBP image format instead of JPG or whatever.... Any chance the LaunchBox will also support this format in the future?
-
It is there in the database.... But if I go to my collection and update one of my games, it does not find the game... For instance, I search for Bugsnax, and the only one that pops up is the Windows version..... Is there something that needs to be done so that the query will also display PS5 games?
-
Any updates on when Launchbox will support PS5 cataloging of games? It would be nice to have all the game info in 1 place as oppposed to scattered across multiple systems.
-
So basically someone has to contribute game data from a website and then download locally? Would be more convenient to have the ability to upload updated data from within launchbox itself...
-
How do they moderate the images today? Is it only a small group of people that contribute to the database? Or is there a way of contributing? Or is it a matter of everyone fending for themselves and using the database as a starting point to get their game completed?

I noticed the last couple of days that it takes a long time for Launchbox to load up. I only have 3934 games in my database, and it is taking close to 2 mins to load. Is this normal?

You assume wrong. I am working at getting my platforms to look consistent. Right now I am concentrating on the PS4 platform as I am using Launchbox as a games inventory of what I own physical copies and what I own from PS Plus giveaways over the years. So yes, once I am finish I will have all 276 of my PS4 games updated with consistant box covers and missing information completed. What would be handy is for Launchbox to make it easier to contribute to the Games database. Perhaps having a button on the title edit screen that will allow a user to push their updates to the games database. Like you said... It is too much for 1 person to do, but give the ability to the tens of thousands of users out there, and you will see it get populated much faster. Then have moderators to ensure that the data is correct.

I was thinking more along the lines of resolution. For example: PS2/PS3/PS4/Xbox Box covers should be 800x1000, Nintendo game cartridge box covers would be 1300x800, etc That way when you are in launchbox and you are on a platform screen, all the images are consistent. As opposed to what I saw with image sizes varying from 800x1000, 800x200, 800x1400, etc And of course visually if the PS4 boxes should or should not have the PS4 band across the top of the screen.

I just spent the weekend loading up my collection of PS4 games into Launchbox. I am using Launchbox to track my inventory of games... What I have noticed is that there is no standards when it comes to images. For example, I set the Image Group to boxes, and I get a variety of images. 60% are actual PS4 box covers, others are just the picture from the box, others are just a small banner. Images of different sizes, shapes, etc. As well, when I tried to load my own image it complains that it ran out of memory when displaying the image. A couple of questions: 1 - Are there guidelines for image size, pixels, contents when it comes to loading images to the games database? 2 - If there is, does anybody actually monitor and audit the entries to ensure they meet the standards?

I am with the OP. Besides using Launchbox to run my Mame or other emulators... I also use it to track my console games such as PS4, PS5, XBox, etc. As Zombeaver mentioned earlier... Use one of the many list apps that are avail on the internet.... My Response: Why use a separate app when Launchbox does such a great job at cataloging games? Just because it is not emulated. does not mean the game images can't be added to the database for others to share that also use Launchbox for tracking games.... Besides, isn't Launchbox used more as a tool to catalog your games, and BigBox used to launch them? How difficult can it be to add a new section to the database?
