I just imported my GOG collection, but not box art was found for any games. The correct game was identified as the details and descriptions are correct, but no box art for any games, and only 3 games found a single snapshot. These are all MS-DOS RPGs from GoG. Stuff like Darklands, alll the gold box games, Menzobarranzan, Dark Sun, Arena, Daggerfall, Eye of the Beholder, etc. Is it not unusual that no box art was found for these classic games?

I think I was mistaken. It was the Atari 2600 Flashback that has wireless controllers. I saw the Atari, Colecovision and Intellivision products on the same day and checked out reviews for them later that evening. I must have confused the Atari with the Intellivision.
-
AtGames make a version of the pre-loaded Intellivision console that comes with wireless controllers. I wonder if those could be somehow tweaked to work with a PC?
-
I did a quick google and could not really find too much. Is there no option for an Intellivision type controller for PC? It would also have to be wireless. Otherwise, my collection of Intellivision roms are fun to look at and browse, but otherwise not really playable. I would love to play Baseball or Boxing with my wife on the couch, but I don't really see how that is possible? I did buy the AtGames Intellivsion console that you plug into your TV and it plays about 50 or so games. It's kind of junky, but sort of gets the job done.

Does anyone know of a leaner collection of Mame roms that can be used with Mame32gui? The one I obtained has like 1,500 or so roms. I did a massive scrape, including emumovie content, and it's great. Quite a few of them scraped with both snaps, movies, description, etc. But quite a few did not. It makes my LB screen look messy with all those squares with no image and, in some cases, no metadata at all. The vast majority of these, I'll probably not play. But the virtual museum aspect of it is pretty cool to browse. But for the, probably a couple of hundred, ones that did not scrape, they become a huge chore to remove afterwards. Is there a better way to do this? Perhaps find a smaller rom collection that does not have every obscure game ever made, or has fewer roms that are less likely to work or scrape? Thanks

I can certainly use my NAS to access the files. I could so via SMB ( Windows file sharing), or even iscsi (my Qnap supports iscsi). I was concerned about performance. I would rather load a large xml file and thousands of images and videos from local SSD, rather than a network drive.
-
I didn't even think to try it without using notepad++, actually. Sorry. I replaced ..\..\ with the new drive letter. It takes 5 seconds to do. Works great.
-
Seems to have worked like a charm. Thanks!
-
Sounds good. Will give it a try. I kept both folder structures the same, i.e. it is now F:\users\.. and F:\emulation as my two root folders involved. I will then just use N++ to replace "..\..\..\" with "F:"
-
That is what I thought as well, but N++ is coming up empty when I try to search for C:\ When I look inside the xml, I do not see the whole path. It is truncated with ... For example: ..\..\..\emulation\N64 Roms\Madden Football 64 (U) [!].z64 false
-
The roms are in a separate folder from LB. All the metadata etc is in the default users folders, but the actual roms and emus are in a different folder. Sounds like I will need to use Notepad++ to find and replace. Which xml file do I need to parse?
-
Is there a simple way to do this? Currently I have all of my roms and emulators in various subfolders of c:\emulation. However, the 128GB SSD is almost full, thus restricting me from any more emus. This htpc does have an external 240 GB SSD connected via an esata dock. This was being used for photos, but I have all my photos backed up to Google and Amazon and my internal Qnap NAS. I really have no need to keep these photos on this external drive any longer. Would it be fairly simple to "forklift" everything from one drive to the other, do you think? Thank-you!

I have done all of that, same as you. But when I exit BB, Kodi is sitting minimized and I have to alt-tab or use my mouse to select it and bring it back to full screen. Does anyone have a solution for this?
-
That would be great, cash84. Thank-you

I'm having this issue as well. BB launches fine, but when exiting it drops me to the desktop with Kodi minimized. Has there been any resolution to this yet?

Setting up Big Box with KODI for first time. Running Setup Log
dmaker replied to dmaker's topic in Troubleshooting
Again, thank-you. I think I need to trim down my games library a bit. The SSD in my htpc is only 128 GB. If I start pulling in all the mp3 and mp4 files that emumovies has to offer, then I'm likely to fill up very soon. There are a ton of games in my library that I will, realistically, never even launch. So I probably need to do some trimming before I open up the flood gates for all that stuff from emumovies for games that I will likely do no more than gaze at the box art. But damn, I do enjoy browsing box art :) Thanks. Day 1 has been hugely successful in my opinion. I have basically hit the goal of my core functionality on my first install. The only really outstanding issue is the BB kodi launcher not exiting back to kodi. Otherwise, most of my hopes for this install have been met. I'll revisit things tomorrow. Thank you again. -
Setting up Big Box with KODI for first time. Running Setup Log

Yeah, upon reflection, I have to agree with you. One other thing, I was wondering about. I only stumbled across emuvideo after already scraping two platforms: Genesis and SNES. I love the way it brings in music and video preview. It did a remarkable job with NES and MAME. I would love to retro add that to my Genesis and SNES games. I have figured out how to do this manually and have done so for the games that I am most likely to play often, but is there a way to do it for an entire platform, after the fact, so to speak? I saw something on the emumovies home page about a service. I downloaded it, but have yet to install it, as I'm not 100% sure what it does. Are you familiar with Emumovies DSU 2.2? Based on the description, it sounds like maybe it runs in the background and fills in missing metadata? I am not sure, however. That would be great if it did. I don't really want to have to scrape two platforms from scratch to include the emumovies content. But when first scraped, I had no idea what emumovies was. http://emumovies.com/forums/files/file/321-emumovies-dsu/ -
Setting up Big Box with KODI for first time. Running Setup Log

Thank you Derek! You solved two of my issues right away. I followed your tips and now snes9x launches full screen and I mapped left trigger plus right trigger to exit the emu. I tested and it works great. Small wishlist item: is it possible to use only one key for ESC? Also, I selected left trigger plus right trigger since most of the games I emulate have no use for a L trigger or a R trigger. But I am guessing that if I ever decided to emulate N64 or such platforms, this mapping could be an issue? For Genesis, NES, SNES, TGFX16, etc...this will be no issue at all. Thanks again, two issues put to rest on Day 1 is very impressive. You have been very helpful. -
Setting up Big Box with KODI for first time. Running Setup Log
dmaker replied to dmaker's topic in Troubleshooting
I'm intending this thread to be my experience with setting up Big Box (BB) with KODI for the first time. I will post my issues, if any, and initial impressions, etc. My goal: to have BB integrated with KODI using a wireless controller and no keyboard input ever required. I wish to be able to launch BB from Kodi and select and play games and when done return to Kodi, ideally with no keyboard input required at any point. I hope this is possible. Underlying hardware: I have an Asrock htpc. It was the highest end model they had at the time, 3 or so years ago now. It is a Core-i5 with 4GB of RAM running on an SSD. Kodi works flawlessly with my old xbox 360 media remote. This remote worked with no setup required, so it has been the only remote I ever needed for Kodi. For my wireless game controller, I have chosen a Logitech f710. This has worked in the past, so the drivers are already present. I have installed BB and setup emus for Genesis, NES, SNES, and Arcad ( using MAMEGUI32). I also purchased a lifetime sub for emumovie for added scraping metadata goodness. The games have all scraped fine and the emus have been setup. I used the recommended ones by LB (Snex 9x, Kega Fusion, etc). I went into each emu and configured them to use my f710 with no issue. I installed the kodi addon for BB and that works fine as well. I have also configured BB to use my f710 too. So far, most things are working as intended. I can launch BB from Kodi just fine. I can then pick up my f710 and start browsing platforms and games and launch games. Snes 9x does not launch fullscreen, but I am sure I can fix that easily enough. My biggest issue right now is in still needed the keyboard for ESC key. I don't know how to tell the emu to exit from my f710. So, I could use a hand there. Also, when I exit BB, it does not return to Kodi, it takes me to my Windows desktop with Kodi minimized. I guess, at this point, those would be the two issues I am dealing with. I really don't want to have to pull out my keyboard to quit emus, or to alt-tab back to Kodi. That kind of makes things less than ideal for me. I want my htpc keyboard to remain in its spot under the coffee table and only pulled out when really necessary. Is this possible? Also, later I need to fine tune things such as mapping keys per emu for save state, load state, etc. But right now, I am focusing on core functionality. Side note: I tried to set this up with Retroarch, but had issues with input. I configured each core separately, but it still did not provide me with any input when I launched a game. I am happy to table that issue for now. I really don't mind using a separate emu for each platform as long as they work they way I want them to. At some point down the road, I may revisit the Retroarch setup. I like the idea of Retroarch, but right now I have bigger fish to fry. Another longer term goal will be to use a 360 controller. I am giving my 360 to my nephew. I recently bought a PS4, so my 360 is powered off and in a box. I still have 4 controllers and the 360 IR usb transmitter for Windows. I will hold on to two of those controllers and eventually look toward moving to 360 controllers. The f710 is fine, but the 360 controller is better, I think. It feels more substantial and is more comfortable. I selected the f710 for my first attempt at setting this up since I knew the drivers were already present back from when I had setup Rom Collection Browser with XBMC a couple of years ago. Thanks. -
Keltoigael, I will let you know after I have it all setup. It's been a while since I have used it. I do remember playing Genesis games on with it just fine.
-
Thanks for the suggestions and input, everyone. I think I will try with my f710 That is what I have used in the past and it seemed fine. And it has a dpad too.
-
This may seem like a silly question, but how do I use my PS4 controller without it sending commands to the PS4 at the same time? Do I need to power off my PS4 when using my htpc and vica-versa?
-
I've been using LB for a while now on my laptop. Now I am going to take the plunge and install it on my XBMC/KODI htpc. I have a premium license, and am looking forward to big box mode. I used to run an emu launcher on xbmc a couple of years ago, but it proved to be less that stable over time, so I kind of gave up on the idea. My first question is which wireless controller to use. I have a Logitech f710 and an xbox 360 controller available to me. If you had your choice between those two, which one would you choose and why? Is one easier to setup than the other, etc? Also, if you feel a different controller would work better, I'm not against that option either. Thank-you Forgot to add, I also have a PS4. So , I guess I could use one of those controllers as well?

Jason Carr said Hey guys, yes; I have plans to add room for multiple manuals, etc. However, keep in mind that you can already add these things to games without much of an issue. You can use additional applications for more than just "applications". It's kind of poorly named. This will allow you to add an "Open Cluebook" item to any of your games. It's not as easy as manuals, because you have to manually add them, but it should do the job for now. Per soundtracks, I realize that's a bigger issue. I do want to add that, but it will probably be a while yet. This works perfectly! Thanks for pointing this out. EDIT: Actually, while on this topic, does anyone know a good place to get old manuals and cluebooks for Genesis and SNES? I looked at Zophar and Replacementdocs.com, but some of the obvious ones were missing. I thought for sure Starflight, for example, would be there, but I can't seem to find them. Genesis, in particular, was great for having those big, thick manual/cluebook combos. Would love to get a decent collection of manuals and cluebooks going.

^^ Even better. I would love to see this.
