  1. 360 wireless at the moment. Can I bum your config for a moment and see? Maybe I could pull up notepad++ and do a diff to check what changes there are.

SentaiBrad said They're actually working on making it better, they understand the rapant abuse now, finally. We shall see. I'm a hair skeptical as these things always involve tradeoffs of interests. For every garbage DMCA letter written and takedown made, there's another who is getting his mod stolen and sold someplace else (see Bethesda community controversies in the last two weeks).
  3. I did that when I was troubleshooting; forget what it was set to. It doesn't seem to have had any effect at all on the gameplay or behavior which is kind of perplexing in itself. Does that mean Retroarch isn't using my settings anymore? Is there some kind of mysterious override elsewhere they've designed in? Ai. This here is the UI equivalent of spaghetti code. The design had a purpose, but Retroarch has grown so far beyond its MAME roots, it needs more than a presentation change. The whole structure of controller configuration needs to be ripped apart and redone, maybe from scratch.
  4. I have proper button response for the game, but in the sub-screen Z-trigger (again working in the main game) doesn't do anything. I can only rotate the menu to the right. Is something going on in the game or with key bindings? My current key assignments: It's been a long time since I poked around in Retroarch key bindings, but they're pretty bad. I have no idea what either column means now. References to "C" and "Z" tell me the left column is intended to be N64 explicit, but the N64 controller never had L and R triggers, just the shoulder buttons. Likewise on the right, I don't know what +4 and +5 mean. It could be the x-input analog triggers, but what are -4 and -5 on the 360 then? And just for reference, my objective is to simply have the z-trigger mapped to the 360's left trigger just as it would work when holding the middle handle. That's a change from Retroarch default, I think. Retroarch is such a good system, but good grief has the confusion caused so many problems.

Much of the DMCA is rubbish. Something is needed, but not that monstrosity.

DOS76 said They truly are unique that is for sure. The 1st time I played Mario 3d Worlds and the screen was telling me to blow on the controller to operate the fan I was totally mind blown. Let alone that it's a fanboy callout to Famicom players who actually had the opportunity to whistle at the Pol's voice (an repeated in Link Between Worlds on the 3DS if I remember correctly). Experimental input modes are embedded deep in Nintendo's DNA. I'm hopeful they can pull something off, but boy do they have a lot of groveling to do when it comes to their SDKs, third parties, and fan relationships (read: DMCA YouTube shenanigans).
  7. SentaiBrad said Bedwyr said Especially since the Breakout design influenced development of the II. So wait... is this for the Apple 1 or 2? The 2. He's on record in interviews as using his experience in making Breakout to improve the Apple machine and make it a better game system.
  8. Name: Apple II Release Date: June 10, 1977 Developer: Apple Computer Manufacturer: Apple Computer Max Controllers: n/a CPU: MOS Technology 6502 Memory: 4-64KB Graphics: Internal Sound: PC Speaker Display: 280x192 Media: 5.25" Floppy Disk Overview: Famous for launching large-scale production by Apple Computer, the Apple II Computer was one of the first successful home personal computers. The system's success was due in large part to development by Steve Wozniak--aided by co-founder Steve Jobs--who formerly worked for Atari and is notable for having programmed the game "Breakout" in chips while still working for the arcade company. As an open platform, the Apple II computer series has had many games developed for it including "Zork" and "Ultima IV" as well as the famous Broderbund classics such as "Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?" and "Oregon Trail". Probably a bit wordy but, I think, gets the games heritage across. Especially since the Breakout design influenced development of the II.
  9. There a way to add information to platforms? I was about to attempt a writeup on one of the blank ones and couldn't find a single edit option.
  10. emko said BigBox going into options the navigation sounds stop playing and i can't back out of the options screen i keep trying until i get this error System.IO.IOException: The process cannot access the file 'C:\Users\emko\LaunchBox\LaunchBox.xml' because it is being used by another process. at System.IO.__Error.WinIOError(Int32 errorCode, String maybeFullPath) at System.IO.File.InternalCopy(String sourceFileName, String destFileName, Boolean overwrite, Boolean checkHost) at (<>c__DisplayClass81_0 ) at LaunchBox.Data.DataManager.<>c__DisplayClass81_0.<Save>b__0() at System.Threading.ExecutionContext.RunInternal(ExecutionContext executionContext, ContextCallback callback, Object state, Boolean preserveSyncCtx) at System.Threading.ExecutionContext.Run(ExecutionContext executionContext, ContextCallback callback, Object state, Boolean preserveSyncCtx) at System.Threading.ExecutionContext.Run(ExecutionContext executionContext, ContextCallback callback, Object state) at System.Threading.ThreadHelper.ThreadStart() the i checked the xml file is not open with anything and launchbox is closed. i tried again and get this error System.Threading.ThreadStateException: Thread is running or terminated; it cannot restart. at System.Threading.Thread.StartInternal(IPrincipal principal, StackCrawlMark& stackMark) at System.Threading.Thread.Start() at (DataManager , Boolean , String ) at LaunchBox.Data.DataManager.Save(Boolean wait, String destinationPath) at BigBox.App.<>c.<BackgroundSave>b__21_0() at System.Threading.ExecutionContext.RunInternal(ExecutionContext executionContext, ContextCallback callback, Object state, Boolean preserveSyncCtx) at System.Threading.ExecutionContext.Run(ExecutionContext executionContext, ContextCallback callback, Object state, Boolean preserveSyncCtx) at System.Threading.ExecutionContext.Run(ExecutionContext executionContext, ContextCallback callback, Object state) at System.Threading.ThreadHelper.ThreadStart() I don't have an error, but I'm getting similar behavior on the same version. It hasn't happened consistently which is unfortunate. For me this happens when changing something in the options (in the latest case I changed the animation from 'box' to 'flip'). The program is responding to up-down navigation but not any other button presses. Also the last entry currently displaying is "mouse". "Exit" seems to have disappeared. I'll have to Alt-F4 BB to get out of it. Edit: Oog. Does not respond to Alt-F4. I have to kill the process from Task Manager. That's a pretty hard crash. Again, no error and it's not a complete freeze. Edit edit: Hmm. The program terminates neat as you please in the Task Manager. Usually misbehaving programs like that don't close out so easily. Might be another clue as to the memory state.
  11. I know a little bit. Microsoft mucked around with the assignments on XB1 wireless and now the triggers are set to a different axis than the split axis the 360 had. This causes all kinds of merry hell on many applications. I'm not really knowledgeable about Xinput, but I think if a program explicitly supports it, then then the system should be fine. DirectX or some other implementation that used to work fine for 360 no longer works here. Jason can correct me if I'm wrong, but that's my impression. Your problem sounds remarkably like that behavior when it affects the Kodi media system where the runaway trigger input cycles through the menu uncontrollably. I believe the Kodi 17.0 alpha has implemented a more robust controller support that includes XB1 wireless, but is still not mature. As for BB, I don't know. I'm surprised that the same thing is happening here as I thought Jason had implemented Xinput.
  12. Too bad I already own it. @lordmonkus: I know it's not the second one, but have you seen this? http://systemshock.com/
  13. Though maybe I should try navigating to a new platform after exiting the emulator and then coming back to see if the error persists or whether the video will load this time. Just tried it. The error persists no matter what navigation I do in BB. The videos will refresh and play if I exit and reenter BB. LB won't play the videos as long as I remain on the same platform page but will refresh and play if I click on another platform and then click back.
  14. Jason Carr, acknowledged. You know your community best, of course. Just as one part-time, occasional community manager to another, keep your eyes peeled for signs that the size and, shall we say, "boisterousness" is getting beyond your ability to handle it. It happens as businesses grow and it's bittersweet, but it is a thing. I'll stop now. :)
  15. I have some new information! Ok, tried a few more tests. - First I tried changing the Ultima VI video to another one (UN Squadron, Actraiser, and a few others). The error ("video not found"... thanks for the new error handling btw, it helps speed up testing) persisted. So that further indicates that the video itself isn't the problem. - Then I tried deleting the entry and manually re-adding it. Again the error persisted under the exact same conditions. - I made a mistake though. I accidentally left the platform name "Super Nintendo Entertainment System", the new default rather than the old one I have been using: "Super Nintendo (SNES)". This was unrelated to the problem, but was serendipitous. I kept the new platform entry and added another version of the game under the old platform name (same error). "Huh," I thought to myself. "I wonder what would happen if I added a game that I know works as a new entry under this new platform?" So I added Actraiser under the new platform (Super Nintendo Entertainment System). So now I have the main platform with most of the games (Super Nintendo (SNES)) with a copy of Actraiser that works consistently and another platform (Super Nintendo Entertainment System) with two entries including Actraiser and Ultima VI. Guess what? The error affects both of them. Curious, I tried running both games in desktop mode. After exiting I clicked on both entries and the video did not load in the details sidebar (just a grey blank space). "Well how about that" I said to myself. I clicked on another platform and then clicked back. The videos resumed play. From my end, I think what I'm seeing is that games added after the initial folder search and entry may have some kind of linking problem to the video playback. Some condition keeps getting hit after entering and exiting the emulation environment and LB/BB temporarily loses track of the video. As an observation, I think I see that playback handling in LB must execute some kind of refresh (like when I clicked on a different platform and back) that BB isn't. Though maybe I should try navigating to a new platform after exiting the emulator and then coming back to see if the error persists or whether the video will load this time. Hope this helps. If nothing else, I'm eliminating potential causes.
  16. Styphelus said Bedwyr, Given that the Hyperspin community has been super friendly and even provided Jason with the API to share all their artwork with Launchbox for free and the RocketLauncher team is working to create a plungin for Launchbox, again for free , I would say it would be really insulting to everyone making the cross over or even those of us working with both front ends to be told to take a hike. Same goes for Emumovies which is essentially the same community as Hyperspin. You cant have all our art work and enjoy the fruits of our labour and then tell us to stay over there. At this point in time, there will be a lot of crossover and a lot of people going back and forth. That's life! Don't make inferences from things I didn't say. I don't suggest barring cross-discussion. I suggest barring cross-discussion of problems that should be dealt with elsewhere. Let me quote our policy directly if it helps: Do not bring problems or flame wars from other message boards or webpages to this one, or personal issues from any other source. You have a problem with someone, DO NOT bring it in here. The idea is to prevent people from spreading problems and rumors, poisoning the local community. As communities get larger, this happens. So I recommend getting out ahead of it and saying simply "not welcome here". Of course general discussion of EmuMovies and Hyperspin is fine. But I would suggest that people who have big chips on their shoulders about other said places should deal with that elsewhere. edit: I should add that I detected nascent angst and conflict between the services and that prompted my comment. I also don't advocate making the moderation approach at my other site the policy here. As I said, the gist of the approach here seems to be gentle steering of the subject, for the most part, and that seems appropriate for the kind of community the owners want. Also, this discussion should maybe be broken out of the beta thread as a sidebar discussion.,
  17. Wanted to add a general suggestion from my moderation experiences elsewhere. Hyperspin is Hyperspin. It's over there and LaunchBox is over here. It's natural for people who have had bad experiences with one or the other to indulge in kvetching (and occasional bitching). We do that. It's human. That's why on said 'other forums' we have a standing policy that users leave external grievances at the door (and warn and ban on that since it's a larger fan community). Deal with your stuff where it needs to be dealt with. Not here. I'd recommend the same general policy here. The community is a lot more polite and familiar and has a good burgeoning culture so instead of formal rules and moderation, maybe gently but firmly steering discussion away from cross-community sniping would help maintain that expectation.
  18. Jason Carr said Hey all, I have gotten one report that VLC video playback in Big Box is still playing in the background occasionally. If anyone is still seeing this in 6.2 and has any insight into when it happens or what might cause it, it'd be great to get your feedback. Thanks guys. :) That one appeared and disappeared for me between one of the .x beta fixes. It hasn't popped up again.
  19. No problem. I reloaded my old configs again and failed to keep a copy of the automatic setup (in case you were tempted to ask something about it ). But do let me know if there's specific information you need whether system configuration or a particular test. That's about the best guess I can come up with from my end.
  20. So I did some more testing of the Ultima VI video. - Downloaded a new copy twice and repeated the same behavior. - Uninstalled Launchbox, deleted the folder, and installed a fresh copy allowing LB to completely download new art, manuals, and videos. LB did not download the video for Ultima VI. It never found it. I copied one of mine over and repeated the error. I have threads of a working theory. It's not a corrupted video that's causing the problem. I'm convinced that the video is fine. The details of the problem may provide a clue: - The one trigger for me is probably that LB could not find the copy in its search and configuration process while importing the game art and videos from EmuMovies. - I have to manually set the video folder path for it to read a newly added video. - The video will always correctly play when in desktop mode - The video will always correctly play in BB mode, but only if I haven't entered and exited an emulator yet. - The error is the same error for any missing video. - My folder path is different than the default. For me it is d:\Games\Emulators\Launchbox So I wonder if there is a state that BB can get into where a non-standard install path can cause it to lose track of where a video is on emulator exit; something that's related to the inability of the search engine to correctly find and download the movie.
  21. Jason: Current status is that on the new beta I haven't yet run into that video error after I switched to the wheel menu. What I can do is revert to list view and re-test it and do some explicit comparisons with the other views to see if there's a difference. If you want that Ultima VI video I'll need your email address; can you pm it to me? I've looked around and can't find an address other than the purchase one. edit: Ha! Belay that first comment. I just tested it and got the error and crash on wheel display. Still would like an email address to send it to.
  22. ashramrak said Bedwyr said It's not a critical use issue for me as I've reverted to XB360 controllers for the time being. The problem has been twofold. First, Kodi 17 implemented initial support for the XBOne controller under xinput, I believe. This was needed as Microsoft mucked around with the input assignments again in March, screwing up 16.x Jarvis use (Kodi reads the controller trigger at rest as "right-input-as-fast-as-possible"). Unfortunately right now the beta incorrectly reads controller input *even while Kodi does not have focus*. I put in a bug report but have yet to see activity or a single response from whoever on the team is responsible for developing the XB1 support. Hey there, is it better now in regard to your xbox one controllers ? like I mentionned I'm considering getting one of these... apart from kodi/LB are you happy with it ? any particular issues configuring it in various emulators ? I'm really hesitating between getting a new xb360 pad (mine is really old and getting worn out...) or a XBO one... but they are more expensive so I'd like to know it's worth it as an upgrade :) I haven't yet reverted from 16.1 to 17.0 alpha. So I haven't tested it again yet. I anticipate it won't be a problem at at because: - I'm not running a program that doesn't suspend Kodi. - Steam and BB are shutting Kodi down - Everything else is on Advanced Launcher which has a popup "opening stream..." dialog that prevents unwanted inputs as far as I can tell. - Even if it does screw things up, I can simply do a kdiff on yours and Syriacn's changes for other external programs I want to run outside Kodi. Man I need to resolve that AnyDVD purchase issue. I use it to run Bluray discs in Kodi.
  23. Yeah, no slights intended. Just impatient and know enough to be dangerous.
  24. ashramrak said I fixed the problem... here you go it also fixes the problems with the steam launcher... this is a quick and dirty fix, I'll release a fully repackaged and cleaned version of the addon asap Beautifully done. What needed changing?
  25. SentaiBrad said SNES or DOS so I can test it. Edit: Or Amiga. :P Er, SNES: For reference the file I'm using is located on the server at /Official/Video Snap Packs (480p)(HQ)/Nintendo SNES (Video Snaps)(HQ-480p)(EM 20160209).
