OK i screwed up and need help with backups
RegularRegs replied to RegularRegs's topic in Troubleshooting
hmm. is there any reason you could think of that it only backs up 5 files? maybe theres something i can edit to make it just keep writing the files as things are changed. im pretty sure it was like that on a previous build i had to. -
OK i screwed up and need help with backups
RegularRegs replied to RegularRegs's topic in Troubleshooting
ok that worked for the most part. Most systems had earlier backups but some of the best ones all had updates from only today. snes nes genesis and windows only had what i just was doing to manually correct everything. i know thats on me because i should have fixed it from the start. But i would say that being that the whole backups folder is only 57 mb for me. I'd imagine it would be a good idea to backup something like 20 or 30 old saves rather than the 5 for each platform. because dummies like me exist. anyway, thank you, that just shaved off hours of fixing my system. hopefully i can scrounge up the money for a lifetime subscription as my big box is up in august. you guys are great. thanks again -

OK i screwed up and need help with backups

alright so i need to go to before the metadata update and manually put in each backup file for each system. is that right? -

specifically the genres. right? so that would mean all of those on the 14th are probably the updates i dont want. look correct? -

RegularRegs replied to RegularRegs's topic in Troubleshooting
im hoping the answer is yes because then it looks like it was on the 14th that i updated the metadata for everything. (being that all of the files are there) so everything before it should be good to go. problem is if it doesnt and i just load those files in, im going to lose certain things i wanted updated. itll still be better than having to redo all of the genres. that was painstaking and super tedious -

maybe a better more pointed question would be... do any of these backup files, or any other backup files contain the genre info that i had saved for months before i idiotically updated everything and ruined everything -

i scrolled down a bit. all the "settings" backups are on the top meaning from today. all in date order btw. so theyre useless -
I looked around the forums and didnt find anything like this. Ive been spending the past few days making big box look prettier. that neon deluxe theme is dope. so for a change ive been using big box. While on there i realized that there were certain problems with the metadata for some of the games. across multiple platforms. so i stupidly hit the update metadata button for my entire collection, forgetting that i took hours upon hours updating the genres for almost 3,000 games. making sure beat em ups are actually beat em ups. separating shoot em ups from regular shooters. point is, it took forever. i changed so much in the genre department that i want back. It totally reset. anyone that has a mame set knows how dumb the genres are on there. so i started changing some back and realized that there might be a backup file somewhere. problem is, all of the settings backups are from today, and im not actually sure what day i reset the metadata. i think it was 2 days ago. so i do have some backup files from that time period, but they are platform specific

ok so, i found this one and liked it a bit more so i did the same thing with that song. idk i guess im obsessed with having my own shitty music play when i start up bigbox haha. anyway. yeah here it is. If anyone wants this let me know and ill upload it Tycho's_BigBox_Arcade_Startup_(B)PlagueDoxEdit.mp4

so as far as an android version. Im a thousand percent down with that. currently i use DIG for a frontend and mostly retroarch for older systems. hooked to a 8bitdo snes pro with a phone clip attached to a galaxy s10. it does the job, but it would be so awesome if there was an android version of launchbox and/or bigbox. especially if theyre integrated somehow. particularly with a theme feature. those Mr retrolust launchbox and bigbox themes look amazing. another thing ive been hoping for is something like steam link. something that basically remote accesses your computer and just streams bigbox to your phone using the bluetooth controller to control everything. but im assuming that would be really hard to pull off. ive actually tried it using steam link and just bypassing their UI and opening big box but its super clunky. not to mention if i open something that isnt through steam it doesnt read the controller properly.

hey man. really good video. I hope its ok but i switched the music with a synthwave track that i made. not a huge fan of the 80s guitar type music. Idk if youd want to put it up as another option but i figured id upload it here just in case... lemme know if youd rather me take it down. If anyone wants this let me know and ill upload it Tycho's_BigBox_Arcade_Startup_(PlagueDoxEdit).mp4

I made a longer version of this. i put my own music to it and basically just stretched the duration. Unfortunately it makes all of the video effects slower but it fills the 30 seconds it takes for my system to load up. is it ok if i post it on here? ill give you all of the credit for the video effects. actually it would be awesome if you made a 30 second version of the same intro because its really awesome and mine is a little weird being that its slowed down. and it goes perfectly with the retro arcade theme. well adding feature to manually change it would fix some of those kinds of problems. I almost never navigate through the emulator to get to another game. Launchbox works quickly enough that i can always just exit out and open up something else without any hassle. I think the only one i tend to do it with is ppsspp because when you hit exit it gives you a list of games in the directory (i know not the only one that does it).. but idk. just seems like moving around while inside of retroarch or whatever emu kind of defeats the purpose of launchbox.

How Long To Beat - Game Length Plugin
RegularRegs reviewed matiaspons's file in Third-party Apps and Plugins
This is a great feature. I think a lot of us have tons of games and we end up sampling them then putting them down if they are more than the few hours we are looking for, this straight up tells you. Also I'm not a huge RPG guy but I am intrigued by a lot of them, but when you come across a DQ7, it might be good to know what your getting yourself into and start with something a bit shorter before hitting those giant RPGs. Very good idea and well executed. Now if we can just figure out how to get a time-spent-playing plug in, we will have the other end of this kind of idea.- 32 comments

Idk if this would be possible. but maybe an app that you can do it from a phone (coupled with viewing the collection. possibly launching them). the framework for ios and android for speech recognition seem solid. Although idk if it works similarly to windows so yeah. maybe thats not feasible

Yeah id hope the voice command feature comes back even if labeled as experimental. It really was a good feature. Lets face it, we probably all have monstrous setups and could use some super lazy JARVIS setup. Yo computer. play "insert random obscure game we cant remember what system its on" . PS i always feel weird complaining about something here because this program is so amazing. i use it daily and ive been nothing but happy with mostly every new addition. You guys made a great thing here.

Wouldnt it be easy enough to have it work in tandem with the minimize launchbox option or the new startup and shutdown screens? Basically start a timer when launchbox minimizes and then stop it when it restores. Or time how long it takes between startup and shutdown screens. (or using the internal windows clock) I wish i knew a bit more coding because i would really like this feature. Even if it was semi broken. Maybe for the broken ones you could have a reset option or manual input to override it.

Hotkeys for Launchbox.Next // Random Game Select
RegularRegs replied to RegularRegs's topic in Features
what about for launchbox.next? I actually prefer that to big box for the most part.
