  1. Awesome! For anyone looking for a proper video snap for this, I just uploaded mine to the EmuMovies FTP a few days ago, so hopefully Circo will get around to processing that soon and get it up on the downloads section shortly. I'll send him a friendly reminder to check my folder as I've got other stuff due for processing in there as well.

  2. I totally agree with the above. I think everything related to a platform should be deleted and given a fresh, clean slate to work with when deleting platforms. Things tend to get a little messy and perhaps even a bit confusing when things are left behind. At very least a pop up box telling the user these things (ROM files, Images, Videos, etc.) will be left behind and have to be deleted manually.
  3. Jason Carr said Hey guys, great to hear about the successes. @Riffman81, I remember that now. I think you sent me your XML file already, so I'll look into it. If not, can you send it to jasondavidcarr@gmail.com? Thanks! LaunchBox does now have Cart - Front, Cart - Back, and Cart - 3D image types available. They should download from EmuMovies and/or the LaunchBox Games Database if they are available on the game during the import/update metadata processes. You know what, though; I may need to update the wizards for the imports in order to make them import those. I'll add that to my list. :) @kmoney2315, it should have kept *some* of your customized folders. For example, the folder for Box - Front should be set to your previously used folder for Front box art. Let me know if that's not the case. Unfortunately there's just too many assumptions involved if I tried to reorganize the folders outside of the LaunchBox folder. Not to mention if anyone was using the same folders for various different frontends, there could be some serious issues there. Thanks all, let me know if you run into any other issues. :)
That must have been someone else, but yeah, I'll send over my XML. Also, as I said, I don't use EmuMovies when downloading as I have all of my art and other media (Video Snaps, Screenshots, etc) backed up locally. So I guess that's why I don't have the folders showing in my setup? Is there a way to get LaunchBox\BigBox to populate those folders without having to manually add them? I don't mind manually adding the folders, was just wondering :)
  4. SentaiBrad said No it's there, just checked an image folder. Fanart - Cart - Back Fanart - Cart - Front
Are those folders created if you have EmuMovies support enabled? I have all my art/media backed up locally so I just pull from there and don't really download from EmuMovies unless new content is added.

Riffman81 said Image folder transitioned over nicely with updating to the latest beta. IDK if anyone else has mentioned this or not, but I still can't jump letters to navigate my GameBoy Advance collection. That seems to be the only system I have setup that doesn't let me skip to the desired letter, it just hangs... Jason, will you be adding a "cartridge" folder in the image folder as well? I migrated over from HyperSpin and have a ton of cart art I'd like to use in LB\BB.
We have a Cart / Disc category, I am unsure if it's in this update or not, but we have the category.
ok, great! Yeah, I'm not seeing it in this update but not a big deal. Good to know it's in the works :)

  7. Zeromod said Jason Carr didn't meant to be harsh. I have an admittedly bad taste in my mouth from experience with the hyperspin people and the front end started to take a very hyperspin turn. I know that some people enjoy all of the flash, but I was happy enough with flat images and functional video snaps with a front end that did all of the heavy lifting for me, you are really doing great work here I was just knee jerk reacting to some changes.
Yeah, I can sympathize with this. There are some real jerks over at HS. I made a post earlier about LB and it looking more like HS and expressed concern over going that direction. Jason has been great in listening to the community and at addressing concerns and problems relating to his software. I think we're all in good hands here and that has been proven over and over. My experience here on the forums has been nothing but positive and I never feel like I'm an inconvenience to someone when asking for help. Very refreshing! We have Jason, Brad and lots of other LB users here to thank for that. As I said in a previous post, others could learn a lot by watching our community here. The new wheel views in BigBox are beautiful, and it's great to see the FE maturing and evolving... Something HS hasn't done in years. Up and running on the latest version of LB and so far so good. I had some issues with images on the last beta, seems to be sorted out now with 6.1

Jason Carr said Awesome, thank you @Riffman81. Didn't know you were part of the team. :)
Yeah, I'm one of the moderators... Thought I mentioned it before but maybe I didn't ;) Circo, has been updating the site for the past few months off and on when he has time, I think he's just doing routine maintenance tonight and sorting through new submissions, etc. Btw Jason, Launchbox has become my main FE and I wanted to personally thank you for all the work and effort you put into this amazing software! I have totally left HS in the dust. I may not post much but I visit the forums often and try my best to stay in the loop. The new views are looking fantastic and I really appreciate your dedication to the community. Haven't had a chance to test the latest beta yet, it's on my to-do list.
Thank you Riff, granted I know im not Jason (he's much more sexier than I), but I also do appreciate the kind words as well! I would be lying if I said you leaving HS for us doesn't stroke our ego a bit. In fact we've been seeing that sentiment a lot lately, but I can personally say that Jason devotes his life to this and he strives to make this as amazing as he possibly can. I'm just here to keep him on track (our users do this too of course), and to try and take care of everything else as much as I possibly can so he can keep going on. Working with Jason is easily one of the best expierences of my life and it would be fair to call him family now. Sorry if I got sappy today, this is like my 3rd or 4th sappy post... I just want everyone to know how thankful we are for everyone in our community. Personally gives me a place where I feel like I belong.
My comments go for you as well Brad. I appreciate all the work you put into the RSS and tutorial videos on YouTube and your dedication here on the forums. You've always been there when I've had a question or two to help out, no matter the time of day :) I'm really excited with the direction that LB and BB has taken, and although I appreciate the "HyperSpin" styled views/themes, I hope LB maintains its user friendly setup and look. I think HyperSpin kind of set the standard back in the day and see to many other FE's trying to look like HyperSpin. My answer to that is if you like HyperSpin and setting up RocketLauncher, than by all means use that. No need for HyperSpin clones. I'm not saying BIgBox is heading there, I'm just saying I've noticed other frontends straying away from their originality and looking more like HS. I like BB because it's cake to get up and running and looks just as beautiful IMO. Again, not to knock HS, I've used it for years and loved the time spent with it... But for me, it's out dated and either 2.0 needs to arrive or it needs to be retired. Jason has been a great developer and more developers could learn a thing or two from him. You shouldn't start a project and promise things and then disappear for months or even years with no explanation. That's been my experience with HS. Anyway, off to test the latest beta. I'll report here if I run across anything unusual with my setup. So far, every update has been running great on my rig.

  10. CADScott said Ahh, was editing when you posted Brad and lost my edits. This issue with LaunchBox closing as well as the game with the controller buttons Back and Start is actually happening with nullDC, PCX2 and ColEm. Mame, PPSSPP, Retroarch and Dolphin seem to work fine through LaunchBox, and all work fine in BigBox.
It's happening with Demul as well.
  11. Yeah, I'm using different cores and custom configs to make use of the different overlay images I have for each. The problem isn't the importing process, LB does list the PC Engine games in the PC Engine platform and the TurboGrafx 16 games in the TurboGrafx 16 platform. However, if I choose to play a TG 16 game, no matter what I put in the command line field under associated platforms, it still uses the command I have defined for PC Engine. If I delete the PC Engine games, only then will LB start using the command I have set for TurboGrafx 16. Make sense? I'm trying to explain this issue the best way I can. If I click on a TG 16 game and go to edit, emulator tab, and specify the additional command line there, it will work with the core I have set. But, it's kind of a hassle to do that for each game. Just trying to figure out if this is a retroarch issue or a LB issue. I have also tried with just using the same core but different configs, that's a no go as well as it still uses whatever I have set in the NEC PC Engine platform. I have no clue really why it refuses to use my command line but if I have to set each game individually, I will do that as a workaround.
  12. Tried that, it's a no go. The minute I import the PC Engine games, it also makes my TurboGrafx 16 games use the command line and custom config... Not sure how to get around this. I've tried renaming the platform from NEC PC Engine to just PC Engine, I've deleted games and reimported them many times... No luck getting LB to distinguish between the two platforms.
  13. Excuse the double post, but it seems LaunchBox is thinks that TurboGrafx 16 and PC Engine are the same system?? I deleted all the PC Engine games and now the core and the custom config I have set for TurboGrafx 16 load fine? I realize essentially that these are the same system, but I like keeping my Japanese rom sets separated from my USA/Europe sets. How can I add PC Engine games in without Launch Box thinking they are TurboGrafx 16 titles? I tried bulk edit to ensure they are different platforms, but this didn't fix the issue I'm having.
  14. Ok, so I'm trying to import my TurboGrafx 16 games into Launchbox with retroarch as the emulator. Simple enough right? Not in my case... The problem I'm having is no matter what I set the command line to in LB, it still loads up the wrong core and config file. In my case, the core I'm using for NEC PC Engine and the custom config are getting loaded every time, Despite that I clearly have my command line as: -L "cores\mednafen_pce_fast_libretro.dll" any clue what I'm doing wrong? I've tried deleting and importing several times, I've reconfigured retroarch, etc. I'm at a loss on this one. And yes, I do have "configuration per core" and "save config on exit" turned off on all my custom configs and all work fine. I'm not even trying to use a custom config with this system but as I said, no matter what I put in the command line field, it still loads the supergrafx core and not the one specified.

SentaiBrad said LaunchBox might not be fully supported yet for all instances of how rom's are set up.
I'm thinking this is more of an issue with Dolphin rather than LaunchBox... either way, I've removed all my GameCube games from the folders and re-zipped them. All are loading just fine now. Now that LaunchBox has support for compressed ROM files, I'm wondering if it would be possible in a future build to have the user specify a temp directory? Maybe it could be setup on a per platform/emulator basis? The reason I ask is because the games I play the most I'd like to leave extracted. Ultimately, this will save on write/rewrites to the HDD. 11
Could also be useful if you have LaunchBox on an external but your games on an internal drive since internal drives are faster (internal but not your OS Drive, the OS eats most of the read and write cycles so speeds are lowered here) but specifying an internal location for the temp folder can also increase performance too when unzipping the games on the fly.
Having the option to choose to delete files within the temp directory or keep them. I forgot to mention that above.

  17. Having some trouble extracting GameCube archives in LB. It seems that if the file is in a folder within the archive, Dolphin will launch but not launch said game/file. Occasionally, I'll get an error from dolphin saying it can't recognize the ISO file. All of my GC games are in .gcz format, zipped, and each within a folder in the archive. Ive tested the .gcz files outside of LB and they all loaded in Dolphin straight away with no issues. So then I unzipped the game, removed it from the folder, re-zipped the game and launched it in LB and it loaded just fine. I want to point out that my PS1, TurboGrafx CD games are all in folders and then zipped and there aren't any issues when extracting them within LB. I'm using a recent build of Dolphin 4.0 build 9146. Does anyone else have issues with GameCube games that are in a folder within a .zip?
  18. The PCE core is working great with the .bin .cue rips I made, but loading the .ccd set I have isn't working... and this makes no sense to me at all being that I used the .ccd .img set to make the .bin .cue set. I have the correct BIOS in my system folder, etc... not sure what else to try really, but the .bin .cue set works, so that's all that really matters.
  19. SentaiBrad said For TurboGrafx CD Games, last night I finally got them working. Not only were most of mine corrupted (Emuparadise sucks apparently with these) so I got an entire set of them that should be perfect, I started using the mednafen_supergrafx_libretro.dll for TurboGrafx CD games, and it works perfectly. I also have my games in .img and .ccd because that is how most of the set works and the RetroArch cores read .ccd file extensions just fine. I am also using RetroArch 1.3.2 and the most updated cores (for the record, unless your download ships with cores, if you use the online updater they are the most updated regardless of your RetroArch version).
Yeah, Emuparadise is a gamble most of the time, just my opinion. I usually don't download from them much anymore. I have 2 complete sets now of NEC PC Engine-CD games. My original set is in .img .ccd format and I couldn't get those to load with the mednafen pce core, so that's why I converted the entire set over to .bin .cue using ISOBuster. The .bin .cue set loads fine and all games play. I will try the mednafen supergrafx core and see if it'll read the .ccd as you said before I convert my TurboGrafx-CD games... but I've had nothing but problems with the pce core trying to load them in the .ccd .img format. I'm still learning RetroArch as I've always been partial to using the stand alone emulators. Is there a way you can view file extensions that are accepted in RetroArch by each core? Is that info in core information? The RetroArch forums aren't much help... it's almost like they expect you to know and not ask.
  20. Thanks, yeah it turns out my PC Engine discs were the culprit as they are in the wrong format, that's why RetroArch was crashing. Just converted them all to .bin .cue and everything is working as it should.
  21. Drybonz said Will the archive opening feature work if the game files are in a directory within the archive (for example the .bin and .cue in a folder zipped)?
I tried with my TurboGrafx-CD collection (.bin .cue format) and couldn't get it working. Has anyone else been able to? EDIT: I'm thinking it's retroarch and the PCE core... on the RA forums folks are saying the core is broken and can't get PCE-CD games to load, will try a different emulator. PCEjin
  22. Ok, after doing some more testing, it seems LaunchBox is deleting the archive from the Games folder upon closing the emulator and going back into the FE. Upon trying 3 Ninja's Kickback again just to see if it was in fact deleting the extracted game properly, I noticed that the Temp folder is in fact empty, but it's also removing the original archives.Capture.PNG
  23. Seems to be working fine now, Thanks Jason! I've only tested .zip files, so I can't speak for .rar, .7z, etc.. but I'll do some more testing once I setup more systems. I haven't tested any disc based games yet, I'm still in the process of migrating over from HyperSpin.
