  1. Either way, glad you guys were able to find them. For future reference, the user folders on the HyperSpin FTP are in: Unsorted Submissions>Themes>Presort

I know DR has a folder in there as well as tons of others so it might not hurt to look around a bit in there and see what else can be found :) Sorry I was so late with getting back to you guys. Pulling double shifts the past 2 days at work.

  2. How do you access his folder? When i log in to the FTP i just get 2 folders...Platinum Downloads and Unsorted Submissions and when i click on either of those i just get a massive list of systems. I cant seem to find anyones folders [emoji20] thank you

I'm at work at the moment so I can't get on the FTP. I'm pretty sure it's in a folder inside another folder in Unsorted Submissions. I don't remember which one exactly, but I remember it being near the top of the listing. If you guys haven't found it by the time I get home from work today, I'll jump on and see if I can. If nothing else, I have the set but I'd have to get DR's permission to share it here, although I'm sure he'd be ok with that. As I said, I'm quite sure he uploaded it to the EmuMovies downloads as well.

  3. Correct me if I'm wrong, but were you the person recording Hyperspin game themes or am I confusing you with someone else?

That would be me. Currently they are on the EmuMovies FTP in my folder :)

  4. Just a quick update for everyone on the progress of the recorded HyperSpin themes for consoles and handhelds. Originally I had only planned to do the SNES and move on. However, SNES is done, as well as Game Boy Advance, Game Boy, and Game Boy Color (the Game Boy platforms are really lacking in themes. I Was only able to find a few for each). I'm now plowing through the 200+ NES themes (hoping to find more not in the downloads on HS) and then I'll move on to N64 Genesis, etc. I'm thinking my goal is to do all the console and handheld platforms and maybe someone else can jump in and do the PC and other Computer platforms. I've also included a lot of the NES and SNES themes I've made over the years as well, some of which I never posted anywhere like the Mega Man 2 theme shown in the screen shots. Not sure when Circo will get to finalizing these or making them public, but he knows that they are there and more will follow shortly. Thanks to @CriticalCid for his tutorial/notes on setting up HyperSpin for this purpose as I no longer have my old HS setup, so I had to build a setup specifically for this project.

I also would like to point out that I may have 'goofed' on a few of the early SNES videos I recorded prior to talking with Cid and reading his notes. Nothing major but some of the videos may have left over transition effects from HS showing in the video. I went through the set and re-recorded the ones I did early on to remove the unwanted transitions but I can't promise I got them all. If I missed any when these are released I will redo them ASAP. These really do look great in BigBox so thanks to all the theme creators out there who made these and thanks to HyperSpin for sharing and allowing us over here at LB the chance to use these in our setups :)

  5. Hey all, beta 2 is out with the beginnings of an audit feature. You'll find a new Audit menu item under the Tools menu in LaunchBox. Keep in mind that this is still very early (only just started on it today) and both the data behind it and the features need quite a bit of work yet. I have big plans for it, though, such as helping you find missing images and videos, identifying games you're missing, etc. Eventually it'll be an ideal tool to use to perfect your collection for each platform individually.

I'm also hoping to one-up Hyperspin with it, by allowing you to choose exactly what you want in your collection instead of using the pre-built lists. The data still needs fleshed out with complete lists of all No-Intro files, so let me know if anyone wants to help with that data collection stuff.

Sounds exciting! Will this work like the HyperSpin XML's? What I mean is, will our ROM names have to match what's in the pr-built lists exactly in order to show in LB? Also, if a game isn't in the "list" will it have to be added in order to import into LB? This was one of the things that turned me off about HS. There are many different ROM sets out there and having to exactly match a database to me is kind of silly.

My sets are mostly using the HyperList naming convention, and HyperList is more or less a spin on the no-intro naming convention, but without language tags, revisions, etc. I say, if you're going to use No-Intro, follow the naming convention exactly and use their databases that are readily available on the No-Intro site. :)

EDIT: Haha! I totally misread your post @Jason Carr

    Disregard my questions.

  6. Thanks in advance Riffman!

Not a problem! I'd like to get all of the HyperSpin themes recorded and out for everyone to enjoy within the next few weeks or at the most the next few months. As I said, NES is on deck right now and I'm about half way through. SNES and GBA are done unless I find more alternate themes or new themes are uploaded. I'm doing the best I can to keep track of themes so if new themes are made for games that currently do not have a theme, I'll be updating and adding them as I go along. I notice that the handhelds and even the Sega Genesis are really lacking in themes so those platforms could really use some love. I plan on making a dedicated thread here on the forums soon for HyperSpin themes and the platforms that are currently being worked on and/or done.

  7. Hi All,

i know some platforms have Hypspin themes as well. Are those recorded and on emu movies or just MAME for now?

    Merry Christmas!

I'm in the process of doing SNES and GameBoy Advance, and actually those are all done and just waiting for Circo to approve them for release. I'm working on NES now, and then I'll be making my way through Genesis, N64, etc. Rest assured that they are on the way :)

  8. As DOS76 said, bezels/overlays are handled by RocketLauncher or the emulator(s) (depending on if the emulator has bezel support or not as not all emulators support bezels). LaunchBox doesn't have anything to do with bezels. Primarily, you would use either RocketLauncher or RetroArch for all of your bezel needs. MAME also has support for bezels. In my setup, I use RetroArch. It's quite easy to setup and you can use one bezel for all games across all platforms. Not sure about using them on a per-game basis in RetroArch, but MAME works that way and I believe RocketLauncher can do that as well. I don't use RL anymore and haven't since my HyperSpin days, but I'm sure there are others here that do and will help you get going if you decide to go with RL.

As for finding the bezels, I believe we have a pack of 100+ right here in the download section. Also, I believe EmuMovies and the HyperSpin sites host them as well. Setting up a bezel in RetroArch is just a matter of going to your overlay settings and pointing to the bezel you wish to use. Both RL and RetroArch come with a handful of bezels to get you started, although I believe in RetroArch you have to download them using the built in update function.

  9. I think as far as game themes and platform themes are concerned, video format is the way to go for many reasons. To me, it allows more flexibility while creating as we have many different tools we can choose from while putting things together for themes (HyperTheme, PhotoShop, etc). Video format also allows for more content to be universal between front ends and the community in general rather then being program specific. The great thing about HyperSpin allowing us to convert themes to video format is that the entire community can benefit and enjoy those themes, no matter what front end you show allegiance too. Another benefit is having everything contained in one file, rather then zipping up a bunch of assets for various themes, etc. For me, video themes are the way to go! As I said, universal content and being able to share in the community is the main factor for me personally.

SNES themes are all recorded and I'm just doing finishing touches on them now. Should have them on the EmuMovies FTP tomorrow night just in time for Christmas:)

  10. Awesome!  but a thought maybe all these game themes could get a subsection in the forums with each contributing member having a post?.  Might just be me but it's almost getting overwhelming in a good way how many are putting game themes out.   Just a thought [emoji4]

Agreed! It would make more sense and allow all of us to keep better track of whose doing what :) might be something we should bring up to @Jason Carr

Almost done with the SNES HyperSpin themes. Should be able to wrap them up tomorrow and hopefully get them on the EmuMovies FTP early next week. Once those are done and out to the masses, I'm going to begin working on the NES themes!

This is smart as CriticalCid as already stated he planned to do them in '17. Maybe reach out and offer assistance to approach in a systematic way.

I've talked to @CriticalCid and have been given his full blessing :) This way it frees him up to do other things or work on another set, whatever he wants to do. I plan on doing NES and Genesis as well but for now, I just want to get SNES out of the way and go from there. It's my main focus at the moment.  @Nyny77, I really like the themes you have been doing and think variety is a good thing! Duplicates are fine as they are different and will give people options. I like alternate themes as it gives me a chance to switch things up from time to time. Keep busting those out because you're doing a great job! I'm simply doing the HyperSpin themes that are already made, not creating my own like you have been. But yes, I'd love to work on getting a full set!

  12. Just posting to let those that are interested know that I've decided to record the SNES HyperSpin game themes like @CriticalCid has done with the arcade (Mame) platforms. So far, I've been able to find 156 SNES HyperSpin themes and once those are done, I hope to move on to more consoles and handhelds (not promising anything). I will be posting these on the EmuMovies FTP in my folder. Don't bother looking for any as of right now because they're not there. I will be uploading all at once and will post in this thread upon completion. Did about 20 or so tonight so hopefully it shouldn't take to long. Once complete, you'll find them on the FTP in my folder and maybe @Jason Carr will make them available in LaunchBox as well.

  14. Donkey Kong Country looks great! However, the video snap you used is actually from the rare Blockbuster Video competition cart. There is a video snap for the normal DKC :) if I remember correctly I'm the one that did the video snaps for all three games so check the FTP if your not getting the right snap to download.

  15. These are fantastic! I say keep going! :P Any chance of getting Mega Man Soccer, Mega Man X, X2, X3, and Mega Man 7? My favorite series! I would just do themes for the more popular and well-known games and franchises. Doing a theme for each game on the SNES would be a massive undertaking for just one person IMO. Keep up the great work @Nyny77, looking forward to more!

Yea, you wouldn't want to copy over 2TB every single time, that will eat up the drives faster. I would just copy over the LB install, just the files no media. That would be the smallest and simplest approach, and only copy over a platforms media when something major changes. Have you thought about a cloud backup too? I use BackBlaze myself, and it's fantastic. It's $5 a month, with no file size limit. I use it on my entire PC. https://secure.backblaze.com/r/011scr

Wasn't aware of BackBlaze, $5 monthly isn't a bad deal at all so I'll be checking that out. Backing up just the core LB files is the smallest option in terms of space, but what if I have to use that backup at some point... will LB re-create all media folders for images and such upon start up for all of my platforms? I guess what I'm wondering is what I'd have to do to get back up and running as quick as possible going that route. Also, does LB work with relative paths? Or will the drive I choose to use to install the backup on have to be the same drive letter as the previous install?

  17. So after having a HDD fail recently (luckily it was my OS drive and not my LaunchBox drive), I've given quite a lot of thought to backing up my LaunchBox install onto an external drive. Just wondering what methods any of you guys out there might be using to backup your setups? Right now, my train of thought is to just copy my entire LB folder over to an external drive. My setup is right around 2TB with games and media included. Lets say I go this route and backup my entire installation... if I ever wanted to update my backup with the latest version of LB, what files would need to be copied over to overwrite the existing files to ensure a working backup should I ever need to use it?

  18. Not sure if anyone else has come across this or not, but I put some of James Baker's Nintendo Wii game theme videos in Videos>Nintendo Wii>Theme and although they load fine in BigBox, I'm unable to view them full screen. Only happens to videos placed inside the theme folder, all others can be viewed full screen without issue. Using VLC and haven't tested with WMP.
