  1. Even more games don't work with the Snes9x_2010 core:

    Snes9x 2010

A.S.P. Air Strike Patrol The shadow below the aircraft is missing.
Glitched graphics on the briefing screens. (libretro port only)
Bass Masters Classic - Pro Edition Only shows a black screen.
Doom Colored dots appear during gameplay.
F-1 Grand Prix Glitched HUD display.
F1 ROC II – Race of Champions Crashes when starting a race.
Funaki Masakatsu Hybrid Wrestler – Tougi Denshou Corrupted graphics on the Pancrase logo screen.
Hayazashi Nidan Morita Shougi 2 Matches won’t start.
Madden NFL 96 Only shows a black screen.
Masters New – Harukanaru Augusta 3 Graphical corruption during gameplay.
Mecarobot Golf The ground "wobbles" during gameplay.
Mechwarrior 3050 Black screen after the Activision logo.
Secret of Evermore (PAL versions) Randomly freezes when the background music changes.
Sink or Swim Sometimes the levels are filled with water instantly.
Speedy Gonzales: Los Gatos Bandidos Freezes when pressing a switch in the last level.
Super Bomberman 3 Freezes after about 20 seconds in the Battle mode menu.
    Super Bomberman 5

Ah, that makes sense. I've always found information regarding core changes vague & hard to find.

The wiki isn't updated as often as it should & I don't have time to follow each core commit on GitHub [emoji13]

Retroachievements is a deal-breaker for me, emulation accuracy is still not noticable enough for me to switch to a non-achievement core.

Although... If Bsnes supported RA I would switch in a heartbeat! [emoji28]

  2. Yup, a few good popular games in there that the bSnes performance core has problems with.

My recommendations for Snes cores would be:

1: BSnes Accuracy (Mercury core is fine)
2: BSnes Balanced (Mercury core is fine)
    3: Snes9x (no year)
4: Whatever runs the games you want to play and runs on your system fine.

Basically use the BSnes Accuracy or Balanced if you can but if both of those are running slow on your system use Snes9x.

Just curious, why would you recommend Snes9x-no year over Snes9x 2010…?

I use Snes9x 2010 because I heard it has compatibility performance improvements over the original 1.52 version. Snes9x also supports retroachievements, as far as I know the Bsnes cores have yet to implement this feature.

Just figured this out a couple of hours ago. Really liking the usage of overlays. In fact, I went all out and am using the crt-geom shader. LOVING the authentic look!

Hoping you can help me with something...

Is there a shader that creates curvature, but WITHOUT scanlines?

I want to be able to have screen curvature, but use the pixellate shader and then create the scanlines myself in photoshop.

Is any of that possible?  Thanks

Try looking at Solid12345's thread over on the Retroarch forums. Most of his shaders have the CRT-geom you are looking for.

His shaders are excellent, and I'm sure you'll be able to find something that works for you.

You could also load up a shader, and than disable the scanline pass in the shader menu of Retroarch.

  4. Really like these, thanks nadonate!

Question to you or anyone who can answer...

Does retroarch not scale bezels based off of aspect ratio? do bezels have to match the resolution of your monitor?

    Thanks!

Yes, Retroarch will scale these properly as long as the aspect ratio is correct. 2560x1440 & 1920x1080 are both 16:9 aspect ratios.

  5. I just started a playthru of the BOF series and decided to make overlays. It was difficult to find good usable scans of the original concept art, most searches produced images like this:

I ended up using the character portraits from the GBA version. I plan on making an overlay for each entry in the series, this is the first. Thanks for letting me share!

@nadonate, these are really great, i assume they are 2560x1440 because that is the resolution of the monitor you are using?? How difficult would it be to produce a 1920x1080 version of these? Just wondering as that is the resolution most people use. As i said though these are great.

I just added 1920x1080 versions in the download section. Now you can select 2560 or 1920 when you download. :)

  7. I've been working on a few border-overlays (bezels) and thought I would share them with the community! All overlays are intended for a 16:9 format using the core provided system aspect ratio in RetroArch. Adjust the opacity to your liking. These should work fine in Launchbox, but I haven't tested this as I have only ever used RetroArch to display overlays.

For those interested, I use Solid12345's excellent analog shader pack (#3) for scan line filtering. You can find this pack over on the RetroArch forums.

You can check out the filters and borders in action by clicking on the images below for my uploaded videos :).

I loved staring at the box and cart art when I was a kid. I found a high quality scan and decided it would make a nice border!

This is a tribute to Yoshitaka Amano's art. I used his Chibi versions of most of the game characters. I decided to make this border functional by adding Sabin's blitz combinations (SNES versions) in the right side border. It looks fine on my 60" LCD, but may look a little cluttered on smaller displays.

Another artist tribute. Shotaro Ishinomori's LTTP comic was originally serialized in Nintendo Power, it was reprinted in 2015. As a seminal nostalgia piece I picked it up and highly recommend to any collector (The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, Amazon $17.99). Scans and touch-up coloring done by myself.

I have more planned, and will post them as they are completed. Thanks for letting me share!

@OmenBoy thanks for the video. I had Rocket Launcher set up from my HyperSpin setup but I recently changed over to use LB/BB as my new go-to front-end.

One question I have was the button you used for the Pause menu. Your bezels show the Home button. Have you managed to map the Guide button on the Xbox controllers? I think that is the ideal button to use, but it cannot be mapped in Windows or with a 3rd party tool like xpadder.

I have some basic Rocket Launcher knowledge so I'd be happy to answer any questions I can.

I USE a DS4 and my home button is map-able just like any other button on the controller.

    2 things I would check:

    1. Disable windows 10 DVR / Game Bar
    2. Use Joy2Key instead of xpadder w/Rocketlauncher

  9. @jaythompson & @OmenBoy - Have either of you found a good solution for the media naming issue between RocketLauncher and Launchbox?

RocketLauncher is super strict about media titles (boxes, pics, background) being specific (I use the hyperlist naming convention for my roms) .The Launchbox media pulled from Emumovies or the database doesn't follow the hyperlist naming conventions and I have to re-name each piece of media manually, this is a pain and super time-consuming.

Just wondering if you have ran into this, and what you did to fix it?

  10. I recently discovered RL and I'm currently developing that love/hate relationship [emoji23].

I think the pause menu is absolutely essential to a large setup; unifying the save, load, and shut-down options across multiple emulators.

It's great to have someone with RL experience around, I look forward to your pause template!

  11. I thought the Nintendo DS looked a little dim, so I did some exposure and saturation tweaking. I think the result is a little brighter and easier to see against the CityHunter theme.

Logo attached, feel free to add it to your set if you like it!
