I do not believe most of those "view" options such as view genre, view series, etc. are set up to be able to change view style of the theme. At least I tested them all and only the main ones like view all games, view platform, view platform category, and view playlists are. Levo_Stone is likely using playlist feature to make these a playlist that show genres.

That's what I did. I just made a new platform category called "Genres" and playlists for each genre.

  2. Astounding. How is RPCS3 setup via Launchbox these days? Can it be set up to go auto fullscreen, end on ESC, etc.? If so I'm thinking it's time to bite the bullet and set it up for the few-but-great games that are playable

  3. A partnership with Activision that includes a $19.99 subscription fee and microtransactions. Plus half of Launchbox will be hidden behind paywalls for content that is already on disk in the program.

JK. Hopefully it's a huge speed boost to BigBox.

  4. That dimming effect...brilliant. The contrast between the scroll bar and the background has always seemed to be tough for theme creators to figure out. How do I make one less important over the other depending on what the user wants to focus on at the time? Some have used a fading scrollbar which, until this, was my favorite solution. But with the background dimming when the scrollbar is being used, it shifts focus entirely to the bar without causing any contrast or hierarchy issues with the video still playing in the back. Then, after a second, the bar disappears and the vignette lifts.

Sorry, the graphic designer in me REALLY likes this solution. Kind of frustrated I didn't think of it myself. I will say that I don't care one bit for that "BigFlix" logo in the corner--it seems extremely out of place even if it does fade after a moment.

The first games view looks fantastic. I love how the video plays over the front-most "screenshot" on the screenshot bar. And using a screenshot instead of boxart is a very interesting solution, one I'm excited to test out. Not sure I'll use it much, but it looks like it has great potential. I'd prefer the play icon (the ->) fade a bit faster though. It lingers a couple seconds too long.

The box art view looks, in my opinion, almost perfect. The video appears to play before the screenshot fades, which may be something you might want to change (so that the video starts to play the exact moment that the screenshot fades out). However I can see this view being my most used on this new theme. My Launchbox always seems to load images much slower, though, so I'll have to see.

Don't much care for the screenshot-bar at the top view, but some may prefer it.

The boxart-only view looks nice. I'd like a bit more space between the rating box (M, T, E, etc) and the game details. They kind of bump right up against each other. I vastly prefer the boxart-and-video view, but that's not to diminish one over the other. This is just personal preference.

I really like the text-based games list with the large video view, but holy cannonball please reverse the red and the black, haha! That's way too much red in my opinion. I'd just put a strip of red at the top and bottom and have the background be black instead of red. That way the Netflix branding will be maintained without burning our eyes out, haha!

Wow, that was WAY more than I expected to type. This, in my opinion, is the best theme I've ever seen on Launchbox. Can't wait to download it, it looks so awesome. Great work, SNAK3!

@shadowblind can you elaborate more please? The top images will be the flowcontrol wheel images with a white outline (Banner/clear logo/screenshot etc) and on the bottom left will be the game info and notes, the bottom right part I can certainly make it start with the game's fanart which will then fade out and transition into the game's video...now the bottom section where it says "overview, more like this, episodes, details" I can workaround with something creative like displaying the front cover boxart of the game and some details like "release year, play count, play mode, last played date" dunno that's just an idea from my side

What do you think? Share with me your idea as how you want the view to look like

Ah, I think my fade comment wasn't clear. I meant that the video is behind a black vignette effect on the left side--that would make it look as if it's "fading" into the metadata. It'd be more organic-looking instead of the video just being displayed in a square box like, well, pretty much every theme, haha.

Still not sure I'm explaining it well....basically, in the fourth view screenshot of Daredevil you posted, just replace the video in the bottom left with the snap video of the game. It already has a black vignette effect on the left side, and make the right side reach the edge of the screen on the right.

I like the idea of changing "overview, etc." into other buttons! Play count works, maybe favorited . . . really wish launchbox had a rating system (does it?) so we could rate it 1-5 stars, or something.

In any case, those are just some thoughts--you're doing awesome work and I can't wait to see the finished product! :D

  6. Whoa, this looks like it has potential. I like the idea, though not so much the netflix style branding (such as the netflix font, netflix red flag, etc. But that's probably just me). Still looks amazing from just the one screenshot.

I like having videos displayed in my themes though, so maybe if the center screenshot in the ribbon is a video in one of the views? Just an idea. Interested in seeing where this goes!

Yep its a good time to be a retro gamer!!

Totally agree. Oh, and I forgot to mention Xenia's dev's fundraising for a new graphics card (which, as I type, is funded by 118%). I'm uncertain about Patreon's long-term detriments in the emulation scene, but right now? I'd love Xenia to get one too based on how much it's helped CEMU and RPCS3.

Alright guys, the first 7.8 beta is here, and playlists have been added. They're far from complete, but still very useful. You can right-click on games in LaunchBox and add them to new or existing playlists, arrange by playlists in the sidebar, include certain playlists with your platforms, and view them the same ways in Big Box.

WOOOO! Been waiting on this, super glad it's finally here. I'll test the heck out of it in bigbox mode. Gonna make genre-based playlists. Thanks again for this feature!

You are talking about Nested Filters. It is indeed very high on @Jason Carr to-do list and I hope he will working on it very soon.

@shadowblind Unfortunately that’s not possible at the moment. Maybe worth a feature request ticket on BitBucket :)

Done! Thanks for the quick replies, @CriticalCid, @SentaiBrad, @Rincewind. It's not a big priority thing but I would love to see it implemented someday as I'd like to sort my collection via genres without losing the flashiness B|

Yes. When Big Box opens, go back ion to the Menu and go down to "View Genres".

When I do that I only get the plain white text list of genres on the left side with no screenshots or videos or clear logos. I've also tried this with the default theme without any luck, same type of view :/ I'm trying to get the really stylish "platforms view" with videos and clear logos but for genres?

In addition, I can't seem to find an option for a specific video to play per genre . . .

  12. Hi all,

Not sure if this was answered, search didn't turn up what I'm looking for. Is there a way to make BigBox display genres in the same way it displays platforms? I want to sort all games by genres but still have a spiffy presentation with clear logos for each genre and videos as well. At the moment, sorting by genres jsut displays them as white text without videos or images.

    Thanks!
