  1. I’ve got a number of mame games Within one of my arcade categories that don’t launch in BigBox or Launchbox. When I right click the game within LB I see there are a number of versions from North America, Asia, and Japan. When I select the game in BB it appears that it is loading one of the North American games. All of the American versions in LB and BB don’t load.

    I wondered if there was a way to tell BB to load a certain a version of a game within a mame archive? I thought I could unrar  the particular archive and remove the non working games but thought that would break things so decided not to.

    Any help would be most appreciated

    Either way on the version - I'm using the dev build but the latest stable will work as well.

    For WHDLoad savestates you'll want to add the following into the advanced section in FS-UAE:

    unsafe_save_states = 1

    relative_temp_feature = 1

    Merry Christmas Zombeaver!!

    I had a few questions if you would be kind enough to answer them.

    So from your video you mention that you don't or didn't at the time use save states, instead just use in game saves. If I add the lines you gave me earlier

    relative_temp_feature = 1
    unsafe_save_states = 1

    This enables save states corect?

    Do I also get the option to use ingame saves as well?

    I ask because years ago with these systems you would bring up the save game menu and save your position if memory serves. Now I'm just getting to the point in your video where you are talking about quiting the emulator properly using f10. If you don't use this method then you use your progress.

    So, how does saving work in game, it sound very much like what happens when you save a game state.

    Other than that I know I sound like a broken record but thank you for the Awesome tutorial

    Also I'm probably beeing a bit dumb here but setting up FS-UAE and FS-UAE UUID as emulator entries for the same platform will create an issue with setting up the default emulator am I correct in assuming that I'll need to run two instances of the emulator to get this working? Although I still think there will be a conflict. I'm sure it simple but I've had little sleep and its not coming to me ??

  3. I’m trying to move two games from a  platform SNK Neo Geo AES to the auto generated playlist of SNK Neo Geo MVS, which was populated during my MAME import.

    I right click the game, go to add to playlist and SNK Neo Geo MVS.  It says the game has been added but does not show up in the list. I can move the games to Arcade platform but not to the playlist. I it possible I’m missing something?

    while you're doing that allow me to just blatantly recommend my own 3d box set :P

    Nice work!  I’d forgotten how may classic games there were in this era. Better start playing, although there’s far to much editing and rearranging of my setup to do to play games ??

  5. Just want to clarify where I'm putting this command line. I've added ScummVM games and created the .bat files for the ScummVM Standalone and pointed to EpicFails launcher. I've also set the save game folder location to the ScummVM folder. I need to move the ini file now to the ScummVM folder.

    I see that there is a logs file, I assume that will populate in the ScummVM directory once I change the ini location with the command line.

    You gave me this below to put in, does the begining part need to be changed to scummvm.exe -c OR ScummVMLauncher.exe -c  ??

    scummvm -c G:\ Launchbox\ScummVM\scummvm.ini

    Can you just tell me where I need to put this ? I marked where I think you meant in the pictures below, but I'm sure it's one or the other

    Thanks in advance for the help and sorry to ask so many questions but I just want to get it right

  6. Was my original assumption correct with regards to the ini? Eg going through the tutorial and then moving the ini and then adding the above line into the command line parameters?

    scummvm -c %G:\ Launchbox\ScummVM%\scummvm.ini.

    would this be correct for the command line and do I include the period at the end of the lone?

  7. Thank you for the reply!

    i’ll be following the Launchbox tutorial for setting up ScummVM with Retroarch or possibly the standalone tutorial and as far as I can gather you add the games to ScummVM first the ini is created on the C drive and then you use epic fails ScummVM program to create all the files needed to import that will launch the games.

    ‘I assume you are saying when I setup ScummVM that once the games are imported I need to copy the created ini to the place of my choice and reflect that in the command line parameters for  ScummVM. Then any changes that are made within ScummVM will be saved to the ini in the new location?

    I hope I got the gist of it? I’ll be adding the games in the next couple of day so perhaps I’ll PM you if possible, if I run into difficulties

    Thank you for the help so far

  8. I run my LB install from an external drive and connect it sometimes to another computer. Following the Tutorials on the Launchbox YouTube channel it seems that the ScummVM ini is created in your roaming/appdata folder on your system drive, or something like that. Any ideas how to make the ini populate in the ScummVM folder within the LB root directory.

    I’ve found some sort of answer at the ScummVM forum but it a bit over my head and there is no feedback so thought I’d ask here

    Thanks guys

  9. Zombeaver your tutorial is awesome and although I started to follow it I never completed adding the Amiga system. I’ve scanned through this post and I see the emulator author has made some changes to the emulator with your tutorial in mind. I just wanted to check what has changed and wha things are irrelevant in the tutorial video.

    I’m pretty sure I remember seeing that the launcher bit is not needed now. I also see that some support has been added for PRELOAD. So I wondered if the PRELOAD command is added automatically from scanning the dB?

    Could you briefly tell me what’s changed so I don’t waste time on things that have been superseded by the emulator updates

    Thanks.  ?

  10. I’ve been adding the PS1 and PS2 platforms and because the collection are large I have most of the games zipped. PS1 I’ve opted for the PBP compression for multi disk games and for single games they are unzipped or zipped. Moving on to PS2 I want to keep things zipped to save space. All my zipped files are iso’s.

    When you add multi disk games in LB, as standard all disks will be under one entry, so I wondered what happens with multi disk games when you instruct LB to unzip them?

    When you run the game will LB unzip all disks/cd’s to a temp folder so that disk swapping is possible or will I need to unzip these files or do something with the folder structure?

    I’m emulating PS2 with PCSX2

  11. One again stellar work Jason, this front end is awesome and it’s so interesting to see it evolve!!

    Anyhoo, I just had a simple question for you guys regarding the new features for auto populating playlists. I’ve not had time to check this out but I was curious how the wizard deals with the creation of gentle playlists that are classed as more than one genre, eg puzzle fighter for instance?

    I’m sure this will all become clear as I dabble, but in the mean time I was just curious

    It will work on any cue/bin files, i used it to do my ps1, mega cd etc, but you would need to make sure the emulator actually supports CHD.

    Im sure that is certainly possible, (its just uncompressing back) but i dont have a bat for that.

    I wondered if you knew what version of Chdman you linked to me the other day. I've been reading the latest version is v6 and that V1-5 is supported in Retroarch and some emulators only support earlier versions??

    I'm curious about Mega CD, which I assume is the same as Sega CD? I asked about this in another post and wondered if you used chdman on the few multi disk games. I read a post from 2017 concerning Retroarch that you had to leave the multi disk games as is because multi disk chd's would not work.

    I use Retroarch for most of the CD based (Older Systems)  If you got a similar setup I wondered if you have noticed any problems running games compressed to chd files for the following systems

    PC Engine CD/TurboGrafx-CD, PC-FX, PlayStation, Sega Saturn

    Cheers you've been a great help and made my hard drives happy ?

  13. I’m trying to free up space on my Launchbox drive and discovered that chd files can be used for Sega CD.

    I wanted to check some things I’ve read with the current state of the Sega CD core.

    So it seems from what I’ve read so far that you can convert single disc games to .chd but multi disk games need to remain as bin & cue’s

    Apparently there are two cores thar emulate Sega CD, One core doesn’t support chd file the other does.

    what core do you guys suggest and do you have any suggest and do you have any experiences in using chd files with this system.

    thanks

    Cue_or_GDI_to_CHD.7z

    Unzip those 2 files into your Dreamcast roms folder and run the bat, it will create a chd of all the games in a the folder, and will leave the originals as well for safety, once you are happy that the chd's work OK you can delete the old files, i believe that your games need to all be unzipped first though.

    As for disc swapping i havent got that far into any games to see myself, but you can bring up the redream UI with the guide button, so im guessing you just pull that up and select the other disc. You would need to give redream your rompath in the UI so it can scan your games folder.

    Hey neil9000, just wanted to drag this thread back to life to ask a related question to chdman... Is the bat file you linked just for Dreamcast conversion or can I use the bat and exe to convert any cue files to chd?

    cheers

  15. I have MAME setup and have really not had to configure any controls so far. For the most part the universal defaults work fine with my 360 controller. The only thing I’ve mapped was the d-pad because trying to play Street Fighter was a bit of a challenge on the analogue stick. The one thing that I’ve not figured out is the light gun games. I’ve watched a few tutorial on using the mouse for light gun games but I can’t for the life of me get it to work. At present I can use the keyboard and the analogue stick to control the targets on the light gun games but it’s very difficult and less accurate than using a mouse.

    The tutorial below is one that I tried

    The only problem is that when I go to those inputs and press enter and move up and down and left and right MAME doesn’t register anything. I’m using a laptop and both the touch pad and a usb mouse fail to register and they both work fine out of MAME. I’m no expert on MAME but as default it seems some of these things are already mapped as default but don’t work. I should also point out that while in the input menu and trying to configure the mouse there is a little brown pointer which does move but as I said before it just doesn’t register the movement and so I’ve no idea what the issue is.

    I have a vague recollections that I can delete the MAME.ini if I mess up the controls to much and can use the command prompt to create another, if you guys know what I’m talking about do you know what I have to type.

    So to sum up

    Running Win 10

    Using one Xbox 360 controller

    mame  0.201 set

    Hope you can see what I might be doing wrong?
