  1. Ok so I have just found a pretty big issue with the new mame importer.  The system seems to be  grabbing the first available rom in the zip and then placing everything else into the additional apps.  While this works for a lot of roms (or seems to) it does not work for roms, such as Defender (see below), Ms. Pacman (it comes up as MS Pacman 2 instead of regular Ms. Pacman, Pac-man (see below).  This is a major issue and needs to be corrected.  Also the names of the clones are not clear.  So if I wanted to play pac-man. I would have to find hangly guy, then right click and then somehow know the original version is Midway.  Also could we get a way to make these clones the favorite?

Jason, thanks for all your hard work and I know you will fix this asap as you always do.

  2. Ok I need some help on some of these terms in the mame importer.

Skip Unplayable - Games that don't work

    Skip hacked - ?

    Skip Prototype - ?

    Skip bootleg - ?

Skip Mechanical - You will need an extra accessory in order to play (uncommon to uncheck this option)

    Skip Mature - Adult Games

    Skip Quiz - Trivia Games

    Skip Fruit - Slot Machines

    Skip Casino - Poker Games

Skip Rythm - Games similiar to Rock band

    Skip Table top - ?

Skip Playchoice-10 - Nintendo Games that were adopted to arcade but still same quality

    Skip Mahjong - Mahjjong Games

Skip non-arcade - These seem to be the bios files, they are not needed to play and just takes up space

I will update this as I get answers.  If any of my definitions ae different than what you understand please let me know.

  3. Ok So I store my arcade files on a network drive (4 disk NAS).  I just had a hard drive failure, which ended up with more complications.  At this time I am unsure weather I will be able to retrieve my data or not. Which brings up my question.  How/Where does everyone keep their arcade files.  Do you backup?  Are you living on the edge of a hard drive failure?

    Here is my setup

    Launchbox installed to d:\

Symbolic links to my nas (Z:\) for games, videos, manuals, data, backups, music, sounds, and themes.  You can not have your images on your nas system or it will work way too slow.

My Emulators are all installed on my d drive as well with all configuratiion info linked to my  z:\ drive

Rocketlauncher is also installed with symbolic links.

What this does for me is gives me redundancy (which should work except maybe in this case of 2 hd going bad, we will see), but it also makes it to where I can load launchbox on any computer in my house and have the same experience.  I have also tested installing it on my laptop and playing games away from home.  Which worked remarkably well (of course I used very small games to test, think NES or older arcade).

Let me know please as I maybe looking for a new way.

  4. Galaxyr is not a game it is galaxy.zip, unless you have a different version?  roadblsters is roadblaster.zip so your command line should be

     Daphne.exe galaxy vldp -fullscreen -x 640 -y 480 -framefile ..\..\Emulators\Daphne\vldp\galaxyr\galaxyr.txt

you would not have to rename your text file.

for instance this is what I use and it works

    Daphne.exe galaxy vldp -fullscreen -x 640 -y 480 -framefile ..\..\Games\Daphne\galaxy\galaxy.txt

    and

    Daphne.exe roadblaster vldp -fullscreen -x 640 -y 480 -framefile Z:\VideoGames\Games\Daphne\roadblaster\roadblaster.txt

  5. Not sure if this is a new bug or when it was introduced but I am having problems in launchbox next.  I loaded eXodos RPG.  I wanted to rename it from MSDOS to eXoDOS RPG, so I simply renamed it.  It looked like all was good, but when I reload I only have like 15 titles in eXoDOS RPG and the rest still in MSDOS.  So I try to bulk edit change platform same result.  I tried this numerous times and it always refused with the same games.  I finally was able to rename it MSDOS RPG and it is working.  Why would it not allow eXoDOS RPG?

  6. Anybody know where I can get some instruction cards for my rocketlauncher setup?  Ultimately I would prefer to show them on a separate screen, but if I have to have bezels working I could also use them there.  I am also looking for the move list files for rocketlauncher, for use in the pause menu.

    Thanks

I have read through the entire thread multiple times but ain't getting any of the jp2 files scraped. In which folder do i put them? Fanart, box art, screenshots? The instructions only say in your launchbox folder.

the jp2 images are duplicates.  These were used if you used the built in emulator meagre.

    1. Download image files

    2. open your favorite file manager (i use xyplorer).  Go to directory where all the games are

    3.  Search in directory for install.bat

    4.  move all files to a different location (i have the option to keep the folder structure, this is what you want)

    5.  Load Launchbox

    6.  Click Tools --> Import---> rom files

    7.  Click next --->add folder--->select folder where files are (not the install.bat files)

    8.  Click next--->Choose a name for platform (eXoDos) ---->next

    9.  Choose any emulator ----->next---->choose best option for you

10 Uncheck everything on next page--->next---->uncheck everything on download image screen--->next---> uncheck all on emumovies screen-->next

    11.  Uncheck all options except force import duplicate on custom options screen---->next---->finished

    12.  after completed, close launchbox

    13.  Copy launchbox images you downloaded from the Win3xO_1.0_Launchbox7_Images.zip file to your launchbox folder  (example    C:\Launchbox\images\eXoDos)

    14.  open launchbox and select all games in exodos system (click on one title and press alt+A)

    15.  Right click and select bulk edit-->emulator-->leave  it blank--->save--->exit launchbox

    16.  backup your exodos.xml file in the data directory (example c:\launchbox\data\platforms\eXoDos.xml)

    17.  Open launchbox and select all files in eXoDos again----> Tools--->download metadata--->Choose which images you want and complete scrape

    18.  Close launchbox and copy your backup xml file over the current xml file.

    19.  Move the install.bat files back to the original locations

    The end

alternatively if you are not able to move the install.bat files in step 2-5, you can go through launchbox and son the select files to import screen  choose add files.  In the pop up in the upper right hand corner search for *.bat (this takes a minute or 2) choose all files except install.bat and continue with the above steps

  8. yeah that gets the games working, however to setup the pause menu it looks a little daunting, and again they want those manuals named a certain way and located in a certain place.  Hopefully with @Jason Carr integrating LB with RL he can fix that issue with his awesome "ignore whats in ()" matching, or he can add a different function to autorename the media by the title of the rom.

  9. Just to let everyone know, I found a nice tutorial of setting up rocketlauncher with an already configured launchbox.  It helped me out a lot but I think I still have a lot to learn. This video is not mine

    Youtube

These programs that expect media in a certain location is driving me crazy.  I probably have close to 75 symbolic links on my drive now!

  10. Ok So I tested some things out and found an alternative.  The alternative free solution is DirectNet Drive ((located here for free).  This allows a user to actually map the ftp server to a hard drive, which then allows emulators to map the drives.

My testing included setting up fceux for NES and playing one game while on the same network of ftp.  This worked super fast and no noticeable issue.

I then decided to try to set up dolphin emulator.  Dolphin is really hard on hardware and this laptop probably could not handle 100% loading only dolphin.  So when I loaded it the first time and set it up with the rom path it was a little slower to get the games.  After scanning the games I tested Super Mario Sunshine and it took about 20 seconds to load while on the same network as the ftp.  it seemed long but understandable since it is ftp and a nonstandard way of playing games.

After playing for about 5 minutes I noticed that in some places it ran 100% but mostly it ran about 88% which does stutter.

I then closed the emulator, logged in to my cell phone hotspot and tried to load dolphin and the Super mario sunshine.  To my surprise it actually loaded within 10 seconds!  It also played almost exactly the same, so I think this is a winning Idea for the traveler.

More testing however needs to be done with launchbox and ftp, but I see no reason why it would not work.  @PittRipply Awesome idea thanks for sharing!

@ckp, if the only thing on my ftp server is my games, i'm  not too worried about sending it throug.  Also with this program, you don't really need to send it over in a link so it is a little more secure, however I would like to connect to ftp with ssl or tts if possible, just have not been able to get it to connect that way yet

    Any help?

  11. So I googled how to play mp3 file from ftp and came up to a winamp forum.   Here is the excerpt

Downoaded NetDrive, which allows you to map a network drive to an ftp server

    http://www.google.com/search?q=netdrive

Now I can work directly in the mapped drive in Windows Explorer and it seems to work great! Plays everything and makes file management much easier too!

NETDRIVE is not freeware, see below for another program

So this looks like it should work for you.  Simply map the ftp site to a network drive.

  12. I was just thinking of this last night,  sadly while trying to go to sleep.   I decided in my tiredness,  it would probably not work well,  due to speed issues.   Although I was not thinking of ftp, I was thinking of using ddns.  Maybe I should set something up and check.   (Don't count on it), I am very busy right now.

Can you play files from a ftp?  Try setting up an mp3 and playing it.

  13. I wonder how hard it would be to  make these member functions work in both bigbox and launchbox.  I mean I like the look of bigbox, but there really isn't a reason why as a purchaser I shouldnt be able to access some of the same features in launchbox also.

Yes i know, so you are talking about the gamepad navigator, not keyboard alpha jumping, both are great, You have reason wit the another keys, I think it must an activatable option, In my another frontend gameex said for example:

Enable letter select: YES/ NO : Enable jumping in the list by typing the first letter of an item. For some arcade controls you may want to turn this off as certain controls can be mapped to letters, which could cause inadvertently jumping in the list.

Yeah I agree, I wish it was an option to select.  I could always remap my hotkeyts to be things like tab and f1-F12 buttons.  You should create a new request for it and make sure and vote for it yourself and then post it, so I can also vote for it
