  1. For some reason I'm having an unspecified error when trying to install this theme. A bunch of the files aren't extracting properly. Perhaps the zip got corrupted somehow? You did an amazing job with this theme and I hope that I can get it running.

  2. This isn't something I personally have use for but I'm still glad that someone did it. Seems like this is an area of emulation that's pretty neglected. I'm very impressed at how thorough it all is including the ambience and startup video. Good work!

  3. You can set region priorities under Tools -> Options -> Date -> Region Priorities. If you have specific games that you want specific regions for, make sure to set the region in the metadata BEFORE downloading images. Otherwise you'll have to remove all images, set the region, then try again.

  4. For the moment you can sign up for EmuMovies for free to get access to their spine and full cover images. It's going to take a long time to get those image categories populated on here since not even Moby Games and GameFAQs tend to have spine images for all platforms.

  5. Big Box Revolution

    View File

This is my first ever attempt at making a theme.  It's based on the song select screen from Dance Dance Revolution 5th mix (with some elements from a few others for good measure).  Since I couldn't quite match it exactly I split the difference between a text list view and a wheel view.  Since it copies the overall style of the UI it's very busy looking while not giving quite as much info as most other themes do.  This was by choice to mimic that early aughts design sensibility. To really give it an authentic touch, I changed the community ratings system to the old "foot rating" used for difficulty in DDR and changed the max from 5 to 10.  It's the same rating multiplied by two.  I'd love to get some feedback and maybe even make some improvements!

It comes with a (freeware) font that you'll need to install.

Created using y2guru's COMMUNITY Theme Creator.

  6. I'm very far from decent at XAML and I need help with something that I hope is blindingly obvious to everyone else.  I basically just want to have a regular vertical wheel to select games but instead of images I want to include text.  What would be the way to go about this?

  7. So about the box views...  Caching the images is what's taking 15 seconds.  However, reopening an already cached platform often takes me around 5 seconds.  Clicking on a title causes a delay of about 3 seconds to load the background image as well.

My computer's specs are so weak as to be disregarded.  I'm running an i5-7500K @3.8 GHz and my graphics card is a Radeon HD 6570 (please don't make fun of me I'm too broke to upgrade it).

  8. I'm not sure if it's just me and my aging rig that is held together with duct tape, but the new default view seems to be causing me some problems.  Namely, it's taking anywhere from 5 to 15 seconds just to render the box view, and then scrolling up and town has a really brutal delay.  Like 2 seconds.  I suppose I could use an older theme but I do like to keep up.

  9. Yeah this is an issue for platforms with a lot of missing data.  When you go to import all your ROMs (or images or what-have-you) at once, it just turns up the closest match.  You could submit a desired feature to see at the time of import what game it thinks it's importing so you could opt out of it.  That's not currently built into LB but it would make all kinds of things easier.  For example, ROMs that are given weird naming conventions.  Also, I'm up for splitting the work load with you when it comes to submitting the games you're missing.

  10. Hi, just wanted to reply with a theory since nobody else is being helpful.  I think what's happening here is that some of the games you're looking to match aren't in the DB yet.  It would be super awesome if you could add them and I'm willing to help with that if you need assistance.  Just DM me if you need any help at all.

  11. This is just a guess, but probably it's because the games you're looking for aren't yet added to the DB.  From what I remember, the ST section is missing a lot of titles and metadata.  It would be amazing if you could add these titles to the DB.  Feel free to DM me if you need any help with that.

  12. The CPU and RAM, while important, are going to matter less than the GPU and VRAM when emulating anything past 4th gen.  My graphics card might as well be held together by paper clips and duct tape and while I can get decent performance from most PS1 and Saturn games, that's where the smooth emulation ends.  Oddly enough though, Dolphin works great.

  13. Hey all, I noticed that the current versions of SSF (I'm currently using Preview Ver R7 from EmuCR) finally allow you to read image files directly.  I'd really love to use this as my default Saturn emulator since it's still better than any of the cores RA can run, but there's a problem.  The way it reads the image files is really weird.  You have to go to the options menu and set the path of the disc image from there.  It also doesn't seem to use any of the standard command line syntax to mount an image.  I tried googling this and translated all of the readme files that come with the emulator but there doesn't seem to be any documentation on how to get SSF to play nice with command line.  Specifically, putting ANYTHING after "ssf.exe" seems to make it not want to start properly.  Can anyone offer any advice on how to get it to work with LaunchBox?

  14. ANOTHER UPDATE!

I went ahead and made a Japanese set of banners.  Like the European one, this is a set of substitutes to use in place of the US versions.  You'll still need the main one for the master list, though.  But wait!  There's more!  I also added 12 new platforms (and gave one an alternate banner).  This brings the total number of banners to 286.  But wait!  There's more!  I also updated the European banners to include the new platforms and I added the updated Game Gear US banner like I forgot to do the first time.  D'oh!

As of now I'm not sure what else I could add so I'll be putting the project on the back burner.  But please, if you've got any suggestions, just message me.  I hope this won't be my last update.

  15. So I'm new to creating content like this and figuring out how to use the upload system.  Not sure if this is the right way to announce it but I've made an update to the banners!  A I'm still continuing to work on them.  I'll be adding more platforms as I go of course but the next step is the Japanese versions.  I don't know if anyone wants that but what the heck, why not.  Please send comments and requests!

    What's new:

    Changes:
Changed the Game Gear's logo to match the early US/C version.  The logo on the unit itself is the same in all 3 territories but I want to give each region its own banner.

    New Platforms:

    Arcade - Eighting/Raizing
    Arcade - Jaleco
    Arcade - Nichibutsu

    Steam
    VTech - Laser 200

This brings the total number of platforms to 270!

  16. Nebula Banners

    View File

Started a project a while ago to create a complete set of stylistically coherent banners.  And when I say complete i mean complete.  I used the LB platform list as a starting point and branched out from there, covering every platform I could think of, and made a few up for my own use.  I went with a "nebula" style background since it seems like that's what kids are into these days and searched for high quality assets.  Obviously this means the starting point was Evan Amos's photos and THK's logos, but I used many other sources as well and quite a few of the logos were just not available in decent quality online so I actually made a bunch of both company and platform logos by hand.

This collection is US centric so American names and images are given priority above international counterparts.  I'm already working on a set of Euro-centric banners though, so don't feel left out.  After that I might begin working on a Japanese-centric set if I feel up to it.  We shall see.  Comments and advice are more than welcome.  If you notice any glaring mistakes or omissions, please don't hesitate to point them out.  These are actually pretty easy to edit and replace.  Suggestions on changes needed for the European set are also quite welcome.  Anything outside of the obvious (Mega Drive, blue swirl for Dreamcast, different SNES, different Vectrex logo, different 7800 controllers, etc.) is something that I'm likely to miss.  I'm aware that not every one of these platforms is emulated yet but I'm less concerned with that and more concerned with getting as many platforms included as possible.  Please enjoy!

  17. Some screenshots are bad representations of what the game was intended to look like though.  A lot of CPS2 games look stretched to hell in screenshots because the machine has a very wide resolution that's squished back into a 4:3 shape.  So in MAME and on real hardware, the image is 4:3 but the screenshot is closer to 16:9.  There's another game that came up for moderation recently whose resolution was even more jacked up than that to the point where the text was unreadable.  The image was basically a thin pillar.  Maybe hard and fast rules about what is "correct" aren't going to work every time and we should be open to flexibility?
