Same for columns and batmanfr. Only played 2 rounds on vf.

Only played for a bit but MAME seem to play Batman Forever on my lowly i3 just fine.

Actually tested more and realized it crashes once you finish Stage 2 (Vs. Jeffry). It crashes right after you a second round against him

Also, about MAME. You actually may be lucky since you're on i3, seeing as MAME doesn't really support multicore. If you happen to have 3 robust cores, the single core performance could be higher than single core performance on an i7 and therefore get a bit more out of your machine. I've actually had luck disabling hyperthreading in the past to boost MAME's performance a bit.

Very Cool! I used to use the Retro-Bit Saturn Controllers, but are crap even with being officially licensed by SEGA. So I'm using the 8bitdo M30 now.

I haven't played any of those you listed except for Batman Forever, and I did it on MAME a week ago, but I forget which version of MAME I used since I had to skip some frames to like 6/10 so that it doesn't sound choppy. Thing is I got as far as the Riddler's place and it got extremely slow that even it happened on an i7 ThinkCentre. I think if I switch to the latest MAME I have then there may be a chance I won't have to skip any frames and maybe get the Riddler level at full speed too.

Let me know if you manage to. I just tried MAME220 (a few versions old, still) and on that version I definitely will need frameskip.

I submitted these problems to the Kronos git as issues so they should be on the radar now at least. Apparently the Columns one has been reported before.

I'm also trying to figure out Kronos, but for Saturn. Works okay on its own, but doesn't do anything in LaunchBox or BigBox. Apparently this is some form of Yabause since they seem to work very similar. I would guess maybe if you or someone else used that one from before and set it about the same, then it would totally work. Yabause from my understanding is outdated though. I'm still new to Saturn emulation. I've heard RetroArch might work to some degree, and Mednafen also is another choice. Just not totally sure on how all that does for STV though.

Managed to get it working @RULLUR! I ended up going with Retroarch's Kronos core. You just have to make sure you drop stvbios.zip in "RetroArch/system/kronos/" so that the bios will be present then use the following emu config settings:

image.thumb.png.d20682037b3ecec5211acbaab4f72d4e.pngIt's a bit of a pain to config all the controls how I wanted them in RetroArch, since I'm using an X-arcade control scheme, but for STV arcade the button config goes something like this:

Starting with the typical 6-button arcade controls that the real arcade would have:

    X Y Z
    A B C

    Coin     Start

Matches up to the Retroarch Equivalent (using Xbox button conventions for the retroarch face buttons):

    Y  L1 R1
    A  B   X

    Select   Start

With this config, I seem to have games launching through launchbox/bigbox without issue, though I seem to have issues with the following games:

    - Columns 97 (freezes right after bios screen)
    - Batman Forever (crashes after character select)
    - Virtua Fighter Remix (crashes after finishing round 2 (vs. Jeffry))

Please let me know if any of this games give you issues as well, since I'd love to be able to get them working if it is a video config issue or something.

One fun fact, if you have issues with improper transparencies you can turn on an improved mesh in the options once you launch the game and it will fix most transparency issues, this worked well when I tried it for Elan Doree. Additionally, you can use the options menu to set your preferred Bios region on a per-game basis. The default seems to be EU, which is fine but thought you'd like to know.

  3. Quick update, I seem to have it working with your command line options from before, plus the addition of -fullscreen, though the emulation issue is a bit infuriating since there only seems to be a list of Saturn game compatibility (not STV) on the Kronos page, and a few of the games they list as "working" are obviously not working. Specifically Columns 97 and Batman Forever. :(

Regardless, thanks for your help up to this point!

Do you have all the correct bios files?

Under retroarch when your core is loaded in, press F1 go to MainMenu/Information/Core information/ Will list the the details of what Bios's are needed and if are present or not.

Most Bios's are kept in the Retroarch/System folder. Some under their own folder with in the system folder. Some are to stay in the Roms folder, Depends from core to core. All information listed as to whats needed for the core as i just stated.

As for the Bios's for Kronos they are kept in:   RetroArch\system\kronos

The emulation is not perfect in some games, But that's emulation...

    DK

I do have a copy of the bios but thanks for pointing out I need to move it there.

I also to would like to know this, I can not find any info on the net at all about it, All information is about Saturn disc based games not arcade ST-V

use the custom command line parameters  (-L  "cores/kronos_libretro.dll") but just drops straight into retroarch and doesn't load the ROM

However, my main concern is with the command line setup for STV. Is it the same as the command line setup you posted here?

Try the Retroarch Kronos core. I use the Mednafen based core mostly for Saturn but a few minor issues are fixed using the Kronos core on some games. (You can use different core per game.)

Would the Retroarch Kronos core also be a good thing to try for STV on Launchbox? Anybody have any experience with this and if so, is there any special setup for the emulator in Launchbox for STV roms? I have no interest in Saturn emu on Launchbox/Bigbox personally, as I can just use my Saturn for that. I only use my Bigbox setup for purely arcade gameplay.

I've never used Retroarch before, so I'll need to figure it out from scratch for this so I want to make sure It'll actually work before I bother with setup. ?

  6. Hey, the past week I've had tons of issues getting emulation properly working for STV arcade games. My launchbox build is arcade-only, and there are some great STV games that simply don't work in mame yet. For individual games I have been able to get Kronos working, but can't seem to be able to swap arcade roms from whatever is set in the program UI itself via command line.

That brings me to the topic of this thread, does anybody else have STV games in their launchbox collection? If so, I'm curious to hear about what emulators and config settings you are using.

  7. I'm having some trouble getting Kronos to properly function with Launchbox. I originally had it working well enough for one troublesome STV arcade game (Cotton 2, since the music is fixed in Kronos as opposed to MAME) but I realized that when I tried to add more MAME-incompatible games it just loads whatever game was set up to load last in the Kronos UI instead of the game it should be loading. For example, Cotton 2 only worked because I had loaded it previously with the UI but if I change it to be anything else it will always load that game instead of the one I am wanting.

I can't find anything conclusive after doing a bunch of searching and my current config is shown here:

image.thumb.png.025d6e92e83e9ca4b793533018aa0768.pngIs this just a command-line issue or is Kronos not able to play STV games via command line? If it is not possible, does anybody have any good alternatives they recommend for STV games on Launchbox? If it is possible, is there a way to set the bios region on a per-game basis? (US bios for games that support it, JP for ones that don't)

  8. Nice to see that this is getting a bit of attention again. Still somewhat bugs me there there's not the option to leave existing information intact when adding new data with bulk editing in general. Like if there was an "open box" showing that some of the selected content had the tag in question that would remain undisturbed unless the user selected the item ("closed box" thereby applying to all) or deselected the item ("no box" thereby applying to none"). Apologies if this is confusing. This just seems like a standard on many platforms so I am still surprised Launchbox hasn't adapted such functionality into their platform.

Look forward to checking out your plugin!

  9. Glad to see this getting some traction! I admittedly haven't dealt with this in well over a year since I bootlegged Winamp controlled by a few AutoHotKey scripts as a stopgap measure to allow random music between games.

Just checked and I still have this issue with the native media playback. First track is random and then it starts at the beginning of the "Background" folder alphabetically by folder and track.

I'll PM over the requested info now!

After a bit of testing of some chd games that do not have a working rom I've found that where the chd folder and chd file share the same name (games such as Night Raid and XII Stag) I can launch a game by pointing LaunchBox at the actual chd file.

But where they differ (such as with Chaos Heat and Shanghai Sangokuhai Tougi), then pointing to the chd file will not work for me. I need to either point to the chd folder or else make a dummy zip of the non existing working rom and point to that.

My case was odd though. The rom did not work when it was named "chaosheat.chd" for me, regardless of if it is in a folder/zip of being named "chaoshea". The only thing that worked for me was naming the CHD "chaoshea.chd".

  11. Wow. Okay so I got this working now and this is stupid! So the issue was fixed from me renaming "chaosheat.chd" to "chaoshea.chd". That's it. Now it works without a problem.

Odd thing here is that all locations online have the rom name as "chaosheat.chd" so this is weird that this is a case of the rom being incorrectly name universally? I am not sure which spelling is technically correct for the rom set but all that matters is I got it working now!

Thanks for trying to help @Retro808!

Yes, well aware of what you said which is why I was pointing out I have seen LB have issues scraping against a chd file name. So this would be one of those odd cases we have to use a workaround.

The folder should be named "chaoshea".

Can you show what the rom path is Mame is pointed at? A screen cap from Mame would be helpful.

I am not sure what you mean by rom path exactly. Is this screencap what you are referencing?

    image.thumb.png.b161c51a563742b11078bffb431a3128.png

As for the folder, I realized my mistake right after my post but it made no difference. Here is the path I am pointing to in Launchbox at the moment:

Launchbox does have trouble sometimes scraping the name of a chd file so it would have scraped it fine if in the "Ready to Import" screen you have changed the name to "Chaos Heat". When you edit the game just change the name there and rescrape. It should pull all the meta and images.

You can point directly to a chd. I have it pointed directly to the chd file and it runs fine in LB/BB.

It may not be working since Mame would traditionally look for the chd to be in the correct named folder. In this case yours is showing simply in your game folder. Mame would normally look for it in \chaoshea\chaosheat.chd format. Try putting it in that structure and see if it plays through LB.

    Screen Shot 2019-12-16 at 9.32.22 PM.png

Well the issue is like I said I can manually change the name to "Chaos Heat" and import images fine and all, but for some reason it won't launch from Launchbox. Also as I said I do have another Taito G-NET game "Super Puzzle Bobble" that is CHD only and that game works without any trouble in Launchbox, so I am not sure if the CHD specifically is the issue, or if it is I am not sure why it would be in this case but not the other...

As far as I know you can't point LaunchBox directly to a chd file when using MAME.
You need to point LaunchBox to the folder containng the chd, in this case chaoshea
That's what I do and I have no problems launching games that don't have a working rom such as Chaos Heat and XII Stag to name just a couple.

XII Stag and Super Puzzle Bomber both work great for me without a problem and I have those just sitting loose in my Games/Arcade directory. However I will give putting the Chaos Heat CHD into its own folder a try just in case..

  14. I'm having an odd issue with Launchbox. In general had no problems but this specific game (Chaos Heat) will not work in Launchbox no matter what. It works without a problem in MAME when the application is used directly, but when the CHD (this is a CHD-only game) is imported to Launchbox, a couple of key things go wrong. First, the metadata does not get properly configured. The game is in LaunchBoxDB, but it is not recognized as a valid game and the name does not even set properly (screenshots below). I can manually go in and set the name and import the metadata after the fact, but this does not fix the second, primary issue. The game will not launch through Launchbox no matter what I do. This cannot be overstated, no matter what settings I play with I cannot get this game to work. I have several other CHD-only games that all function in Launchbox without a problem and there is virtually nothing I can find that is unique about this game's case to point to in this case. I have other games on Taito's G-NET System that all work and are running identical configurations (and in fact Super Puzzle Bobble is a G-NET game that also CHD-Only, and this game works without issue!). I am drawing blanks here and pulling my hair out over this game, so I wanted to post over here and see if anyone has any idea. I will include a detailed walkthrough of my setup below so you all can get an idea of what I am running to (hopefully) spot something that can help.

First, the configuration of the specific MAME build I am using for G-NET games (Chaos Heat included):
I use this config setup for all of my MAME games in general, and have had no issue before.

image.thumb.png.f62459279e81d6aabc948e49169fe338.pngHere is the listing in the import wizard. Usually it would list the game properly, such as listing "Chaos Heat" instead of rom name "chaosheat". This is the first oddity I notice when importing.

image.thumb.png.f271ed2ac0724d61080e05972951e824.pngWhen I click "Finish" and let it import, here's what the finished product has for metadata (nothing):
A few oddities here. First, it does list that it is grabbing the images when importing, but goes way too fast and doesn't show any when finished. Also, you can see it does link to the correct LaunchboxDB item, but as shown it doesn't correctly grab the name for some reason? The metadata is at least there for this game, as inaccurate as it is.

    image.thumb.png.064518eccb5a2e1f822c279cde3abdc5.png

Once I manually import the pictures, the next thing is to try to play the game. When I try to do this Launchbox does the same thing that it would do if a game was missing a rom file or something similar: it displays the loading screen and then immediately quits back to the game list. No error messages or anything. Problem is, there are no errors for me to troubleshoot in this case since the game functions completely fine when I launch it directly through MAME, and it plays without any issue! This is a great game and it pains me that it is being so troublesome to set up. If anyone has anything they can suggest to try or at least if anyone can verify that the game works fine for them it would be greatly appreciated!

Feel free to let me know if anyone needs more information on this and I would be happy to help, I just want my Chaos Heat! ?

Here's a screenshot showing the game is indeed working for me through MAME directly:

    image.thumb.png.15c305ae4b0453136e9ec0d60fa100a6.png

  15. I have a simple question: Is there a way to view the play history for launchbox/bigbox? I know that Bigbox has where you can select the last played games when in the platforms view, so is there some sort of text file or option in the software to see the play history?

  16. 1 hour ago, spycat said:

This TTL game is internal to MAME so there is no breakout.zip, unless the import process maybe creates a dummy one.
The MAME command line for it is just mame64.exe breakout
You can launch it through LaunchBox by making a dummy zip, or else, like I do, by pointing LaunchBox to just breakout.

    Screen Shot 03-19-19 at 12.23 AM.PNG

Thanks! This is exactly what I was looking for. The fullset option wouldn't have worked for me since I only import games as I find ones that strike my fancy, I don't do bulk game adding or anything.
