Farewell to old-school audio plugs...

It'll be costly at first due to the newness of it, but 3.5mm can carry video and USB (any of them) can already carry Audio and video as well, so really this is at no surprise to me. It also won't go away probably completely. USB Mini still exists, even though Micro has phased that out almost completely. If adoption is high though and there isn't too much splintering of the market then it will be fine.

I'm all for decreasing the amount of different connectors. But if we look at versatile uses of the 3.5mm jack, ending up in devices in pockets, etc. I foresee some problems with that the usb connector is a bit short and not round and so less rigid.
