Charco
So I got my HTPC built with an i5-6600, 16 gigs of RAM, and an Asus GTX 1060 Turbo. Really happy with it and just installing Steam and whatnot today after work. Obviously, I'll be installing BigBox and just had a couple of questions. I'll be using RetroArch cores for most systems up as far as PSX and Dolphin for my Gamecube and Wii stuff. Should I download and install these separately or can this be done from inside Launchbox? Is there a recommended folder structure for emulators and roms or is that personal preference? Thanks in advance ; )
Lordmonkus
You will need to download and set up your emulators your self. You folder structure is up to you and how you want to do it. If you want to make it easy to be able to back up your entire system I would suggest making an /emulators folder and /roms folder within your Launchbox install folder. Then inside of those folders setup your roms by system and emulators by emulator name and version number. The reason for emulators by emulator version number is so you can try out new versions and it is super easy to revert back to an older version if needed. To give you an idea of how my emulators and roms folders are setup here is a screenshot. It's not completely set up properly as I am in the process of moving stuff over and I keep my roms and emulators on a separate drive from Launchbox. Charco
Looks like you have one or two games ? Thanks for your reply, I'll try to set mine up in a similar way! Edited September 5, 2016 by Charco
Lordmonkus
Lol, that roms folder doesn't even contain my NES, SNES, Genesis, Master System,TurboGrafx 16, Atari 2600 or Mame roms. I plan on migrating them over eventually, kind of hoping Jason implements a buld edit for rom paths feature soon.
Charco
Nice! So you have both your roms and emulators folders in the same folder as your Launchbox folder? Makes it easier to migrate everything to another drive or create a back up for sure.
Lordmonkus
No, my roms and emulators are on a separate drive from Launchbox so yeah if I have to migrate it over it will be some work. If I were to build a stand alone HTPC / emulator pc I would do the following folder structure: Launchbox Launchbox.exe -Roms Folder -Emulators Folder -Emulator Tools
Charco
Ah I get you, thanks for the advice. I'll be like a kid on Christmas morning setting everything up, can't wait to get started ?
Lordmonkus
On a side not all my CD based games are in their own folders which contain the cue + bin file rather than putting a whole pile of cue + bins in one folder. Individual cartridge roms are just all thrown together in their respective system rom folder.
Charco
Ah cool. Yeah I have all my Mega CD, PC Engine CD, PSX, and my handful of Dreamcast games in their own folders on my laptop. I'll just transfer them over like that too.
Charco
So I've downloaded Premium and joined Emumovies and have Big Box working with my 8 and 16 bit consoles with scraped media. Very happy with it so far. I've noticed that the platform clear logos for both the TurboGrafx 16 CD and SNK Neo Geo have not been scraped. Is there a way of obtaining these? Also, no videos downloaded for any of my Neo Geo games even though the clear logos and screenshots did. The boxart for this system is also messed up as I have boxart for some games, but arcade flyers for others. I checked the LaunchBox Games DB site and they appear to be there, so I wonder why they didn't scrape. Can I rescrape a system once I have already downloaded media, or will I end up with duplicates? I am thinking I should have used Emumovies as default now. I think I read somewhere that you can scrape as MAME, maybe this is the best option for Neo Geo games even though I am using the FBA RetroArch core. Hope someone can help and sorry about all the questions ?
Charco
Nevermind, I removed the Neo Geo from platforms, re-imported the roms, chose to prioritize Emumovies over Launchbox, and ticked to force scraping using the MAME rom name for other systems option (or something similar). Each rom now has a gameplay video. Launchbox still has flyers for boxart though, so I guess I will use the 3D boxes instead as it looks nicer. It still didn't find a Neo Geo clear logo for the platform wheel and uses the arcade platform image and platform video with Street Fighter, Turtles, X-Men etc., but I guess I can change those and point Launchbox to the new files.
