g00glethis1
Title says it all: BigBox crashes w/ Controller Automation bug, crashes windows 10 on start+select command, bug is not problem w/ LaunchBox?!? Love the controller automation feature but the problem I'm having is the "close the active window" command (mapped to hold select & press start; <-(also tried different button, same result)) under BigBox->Options->Use Controller Automation: Not only closes the emulator (yay!) but shuts down BigBox (boo!) & messes up my windows 10 machine (boo!) because BigBox was not shutdown properly which messes up the StartMenu/Taskbar to disappear to the point where I have to restart my computer in order to restore the bar at the bottom of the screen back... ^^^This only happens if I launch games from BigBox , not an issue when I use LaunchBox!!! Also I purchased LaunchBox Premium before I registered to the forums yet I don't see the connection between my Forum Profile & my premium purchase.... Any advise will be greatly appreciated !!!!! I really don't care what pad plugin I need to use to accomplish the end result even if I have to buy another software...!!!Any suggestion on how to achieve this?Is there any way to do this with LilyPad 0.12.0 or any other plugin?? keithhov
This is happening with me 2, not sure if it is from an update to big box or update to window but its a pain.
keithhov
Noticed the crash using any buttons with automation to close current window. Went back to versions 7 v13 and no longer an issue. Hope it gets fixed.
g00glethis1
@keithhov So I started off with version 7.5. Is there a way to downgrade without screwing stuff up??
keithhov
I just ran the install file...it keeps the older install files in a folder somewhere , this is the first time I downgraded, was a bit concerned but it didn't mess anything up . Might be hard to find an older version but I'm sure u can somewhere since u started at 7.5 hopefully a real fix is coming . Surprised more don't exit emulators like this . Zeromod
I've been using Controller Companion for ages. Mainly because I can scroll through magazines and manuals with my controller and not need a mouse etc on my front end. I actually just use that program to hold select and hit my xbox one guide button to close the active window. My issue with Launchbox/Bigbox was not that it crashed anything, but as of the latest version, the modifier and close button option in Bigbox just didn't do anything at all for me. It's strange because I can hold select and change my volume using built in automation in Bigbox. I know it's not ideal, but Controller companion is a 3 dollar program and might still have value after this apparent bug is fixed. I can't suggest downgrading your versions though, I'd report the bug and confirm it and either use a work around for now or hang tight. There are a ton of improvements in the current version or two that were not there previously and that seems to be counterproductive to try and roll back. Edit: Controller companion closes PCSX2 without issue for me in Bigbox. You should be able to do that with AHK or similar free tools as well then. It's not looking for a window title it's just sending an escape key to the window in focus. Just like tapping escape on the keyboard. g00glethis1
@Zeromod You are genius! I was willing to buy a program to do what I need. I could care less about a reasonable cost of $3! AHK, just could not grasp how to make it work with Xinput, you throw a program in front of me that requires creating & managing script, forget it about it. I'll check into this program you are talking about, hopefully it has GUI & is fairly easy to use....
g00glethis1
There is only one problem with Controller Companion.......why didn't I know about it sooner......?!

Zeromod
@g00glethis1 I'm glad it helped. Easily the best 3 bucks I've spent in a long time. I'm working on a Nintendo Power "platform" and will share that setup in a video soon. Controller Companion was a critical find for me so that my front end could be truly automated without the need for a keyboard or mouse and could browse my magazines and manuals etc. edit: It's interface is very easy to use, but feel free to ping me if you have any questions in setting up your bindings etc. Edited February 21, 2017 by Zeromod
g00glethis1
@Zeromod definitely digging the software. Question about "hold select and hit my xbox one guide button to close the active window" to pcsx <-did you change any of the default setting to accomplish end result or just left everything default? Zeromod
I set custom profiles in controller companion. If you open it from the system tray and then navigate to settings > profiles > edit bindings, you can set the controller buttons to do whatever you want. For me, I set it to hold select (which then lets you use your secondary bindings) and then hit the guide button which just sends the "esc" key to whatever app is open on the screen at the time. As for pcsx2, I believe escape is the default to close the app so I didn't have to do anything special there. One thing to note, the controller companion software will generally detect when an application is looking to take "control" of your gamepad and unless you have disabled it, you should hear a chime that indicates that controller companion is active or not (For me it sounds like a usb device connecting or disconnecting). On my setup (which you can change in controller companion) I hold select and hit start to tell controller companion to take "focus" of my gamepad and if I hit it again it tells companion to ignore the controller. This is worth noting because if you open a game in Big Box for example, the emulator has "focus" on your controller. So you just hold select+start to let controller champion take "focus" then you can hit your guide button or whatever you set it to, and that lets you exit the emulator or do whatever you are looking to do. Make sense? Let me know if you have any issues I'm sure I can post a quick vid to explain whatever you need. Edit: That last bit comes in handy btw. So if your analog stick is now acting as if it were a mouse, think of what you can do with emulators of nintendo ds games which touch controls at the bottom screen, or things like Cemu which emulate touch screens Edited February 22, 2017 by Zeromod

Zeromod
I didn't make it, I just bought it lol. But yeah, I have to say it's a really useful tool for less than a pint of beer in cost. I love it.
