Yea sometimes it's best just to start over. Config files and settings start getting in the way of each other.

hit another snag though

 

Mame has the same problem which is fine can sort

problem is I have got multiple mame emus and I can remember which one I had it running from last time ! which is the compatible version ?I have got is rom set version .178

had a good weekend up to this discovery,  sorted Amiga, MS Dos (thanks to your video) Gameboy colour and advance and NDS

If I understand your question right, you should use the mame version that coincides with your romset. In you case .178
