stevaside
What's the easiest way to do this? My old MAME roms, half of them didn't work with current version of MAME I started using in Launchbox...now I have the same set in 0.185 & want to just use a folder in Launchbox to load them from (My old roms were stlll in Hyperspin folders & I originally set up Launchbox to use that location Also, will I lose all playlist info once I do this...being the filenames are same I would think not, but little worried Thanks in advance
Lordmonkus
You have 2 options. You can either remove your games from LB without deleting them from the hard drive and then re-import your games but you don't have to re scrape all the media files since those will still be in their respective folders. The other option if you are using the exact same rom set just in a different location is to use notepad++ to edit the .xml for the platform. Use the find and replace all to replace the old path with the new one. Your playlist should still be intact since those xml files contain no path data whatsoever. Yea if I wanted to just delete the old folder I was using & make a new subfolder folder within Launchbox's folders for my new roms, how would I add it? Last I checked I couln't figure out how to set a directory for roms, think only option I saw was adding individual rom files
Lordmonkus
You can't just set a rom folder. Then you can do either of the things I said previously.

Sorry I'm a little confused, didn't I choose a rom folder when I 1st set it up? I selected my old Hyperspin rom folder, but I don't wanna use that anymore..are you saying I can't just delete/remove the old folder & set another? Be pretty counterintuitive to not be able to do something simple as that...I don't have any experience using Notepad ++ or editing .xml files either & don't rly wanna have to take the time to learn new apps & methods just to choose where my games are on my hard drive
Lordmonkus
There is no setting of a rom folder directly within Launchbox. I have asked @Jason Carr about a bulk edit option for a rom location but that has not been implemented yet and nor do I know if this will ever be done. When you imported your roms you most likely used the "Import Roms" tool within Launchbox and pointed that to your rom folder. My recommendation is to remove your games from the platform in LB and then go through the import process again but this time point it to your "new" rom location. Notepad++ and the find and replace all tool is very easy to use but if you aren't comfortable with it do what suggested above and re-import your roms. To speed up the import process just uncheck all the media stuff because that will remain on your hard drive in the right place after removing your games from LB. stevaside
Ok well thats more like what i was hoping to do, so I can re-import another folder then I guess Sure I could figure it out, just don't have the time right now & that just doesn't seem too user friendly..but if it's as simple as removing the games & re-importing another folder I should be good
Lordmonkus
Yeah just removing and re-importing is fairly quick and easy, remember you don't need to redownload the media so the import time will be drastically shorter than when you first did it.
Lordmonkus
I just wrote up a guide for using Notepad++ since I figured it would come in handy for someone else wanting to do the same thing as you in the future.
