How does the cache system actually work?

I deleted and filled the cache in BB about 3 releases ago, on high quality image settings in BB, which totalled around 80 gig.

This week I did the same with the current beta on medium image quality settings in BB and the cache is around 20 gig.

Then after playing for a day or 2 that 20 gig fresh forced cache is now 60 gig...

I have no idea how this cache thing works hey...

I build my caches by deleting the cache, loading LB and choosing platform ALL, refresh all images and waiting till the cache is full in LB (verified by scrolling and all images loaded, and my HDD stops sounding like a grinder) before loading BB, refreshing all images and doing the 2 force populates.

So how did my cache grow 30+ gig in a day after apparently loading the entire collection into it?

It's a good question. But I"m guessing the cache wasn't really fully loaded when you thought it was. I've found it's kind of hard to force a full cache after deleting everything in the cache folder to start it over again. I also go to ALL and scroll. But I keep slowly scrolling up and down several times until I see it stops growing and LB process calms down. I think LB and BB both grow the cache folder.

Yeah you can only force BB to cache.

And you are correct about LB needing to scroll up and down continuously to completely load everything.

Also refresh images in BB should actually be called Delete Cache because that's exactly what it does. Takes the cache folder down to 0 with total disregard for LB cache data.

I made the entire Cache folder read only today after making sure it was complete and noticed as soon as it tries to load a platform logo it crashes due to not being able to write to cached files. I was wondering why it needs to write to them at all?
It seems like it could be a resource hog writing to things it doesn't need to. Or I could be a complete noob and not understand the whole thing properly.
@Jason Carr if you find the time could you shed some light?
