Hi everyone

I am a Launchbox premium user and very happy with it, I am actually managing bixbox and emumovies options and it is really amazing!!

However I have a problem... due to the fact that my devide has very Little internal space (it is a Surface Pro 5, 128GB...) I need to move the launchBox to the MicroSD Card and there, continue updating boxarts, videos etc etc.

The thing is, I started and installed LaunchBox in my Surface Pro, I have uploaded in launchbox all my romset of many platforms (nes, snes, gb, neo geo, 32x etc) but know, I the space of the internal storage has been depleted. So, What Should I do to move Launchbox from internal storage to Micro SD without loosing all my done progress????

If I cut/paste the "LaunchBox" Folder (it is located in---  C:/users/great/launchbox )

If I do that..., Will the emus work??? or ...perhaps I would need to go to LaunchBox options… TOOLS, MANAGE EMULATORS, EDIT and there presing Browse locate again the ".exe" programs again...

Would it Work??? Could anyone of you give me an advice please????

Thank you very very much

Launchbox is a portable program, so if you have your emulators and roms inside of the Launchbox folder then yes you can just copy/paste the whole folder to the sd card. If your roms and emulators are outside of the launchbox folder it "should" still work also, but you may need to change some paths like you mentioned. A word of warning though, SD cards are not designed for a lot of random reads and writes, they are more for actual storage of files, so you may have poor performance when running Launchbox/Bigbox from the SD card.

I am forced to move launchbox from internatl storage to SD Card because there is no space in my Surface pro (128gb give you about 40 GB real for saving things…)

When you say poor performance running launchbox/bigbox…. do you mean lags issues while moving the menú or something like this???

On the other hand, Roms are located in my micro SD Card, when I did the roms paths I selected the respect the original locations of the roms so they Will continue being in the same place, micro sd card.

Regarding the emulators … I Will try to run them, and if they do not work, I Will update the paths in manage emulators browsing again the ".exe" files of the emulators.

Running the roms from the Micro SD cards (it is a Samsung 10 Class ,256GB) the games run fine.. I think…, bearing in mind that I can not put the roms in the internal storage… do you think I am having poor performance in comparison that the games were in the internal storage?, I algo hope have a normal running of bigbox….from the SD Card…. in my case, I have no choice.

Thank you very much for your opinion and help

The roms would be fine on the SD card, in fact that would be my recommendation anyway as they are read only and are only read when launching a game. As for the poor performance point, yes i am referring to lag and slow loading elements in the UI. Launchbox/Bigbox is doing a lot of reading and writing at all times,  its scanning image folders, scanning platform.xml's for game info, scanning for and playing videos, loading clear logos/boxart all at the same time, and SD cards really are not designed for that sort of random read and writes, they are more for steady reading and writing of single files like photos or video, or just general storage. My suggestion would be to keep the roms and videos on the SD card, but keep Launchbox and all the images on the internal drive.

Yes you are right but , how to do this? (I mean when you said: My suggestion would be to keep the roms and videos on the SD card, )

I have been checking the LaunchBox folder in the internal drive, and inside the LaunchBox Folder, there is a "VLC" folder..., this folder takes me now... 30GB !! it is the problem..., inside the VLC ,

Also, inside LaunchBox Folder.., "Images" folder takes me...14GB !

however Videos folder only takes me 1.5GB....., cutting the videos folder to SD card,,won't give me so much solution…

What should I do???, cut VLC folder and paste in the Micro SD card?? that would be all???? or what recommendation do you propose?

THANKS A LOT!! really, for your support

yeah for your situation you may just have to move everything to the SD card and hope for the best because you don't really have many options. If it has USB ports you could try a low profile USB flash drive SanDisk makes 128GB ones that are no larger than a Bluetooth dongle and they are USB 3.0 so they may have better speeds than an SD card.

Hi, thanks for your answer

Yes, it seems to be the best option for me..., that USB Flash Drive from Sandisk (128GB) gives me enough storage for LaunchBox images and videos..., and it also reads up to 130MB/s...., The Sandisk or Samsung MicroSD card 10Class read 100MB/s...., so the Sandisk flash drive 3.1 is faster Reading files than the micro sd cards definitely.

The problem I see  (and read in the opinions about it) is that the flash drive gets warm very easily…, but... in my case it is worth trying. Hoping to get good results with performance and running bigbox on it.

Now..., I imagine I put the flash drive in my Surface pro. Then I cut the LaunchBox and paste it in the flash drive.

If then I import more games in LaunchBox and it looks for images and videos..., these images and videos where Will they go???, Will they be downloaded in "C:/" ???? Or Will They be downloaded directly in the FLash Drive????

I mean, If I paste LaunchBox in the flashdrive…, would I need to path in Launbox options something to change the place to be donwloaded images and videos??? if so,... What Should I do to do this?

THANKS for your invaluable help

no all the media should just be directly downloaded to LB if you where to go to tools>manage platform and then edit a random platform and look in the folders tab you will see where everything is stored and it is by default to set up to look in the root folder of LB so where ever you move LB to that is where they will download.

Hi again

So finally I have bought the Sandisk Pen Drive 128GB (130mg/s Reading) and then I copied the LaunchBox folder (it originally was in "C:/users/great" )

and I pasted this folder in the Pen Drive, … but now, when I try to open LaunchBox.exe it Works, but the roms dont….

When I open BibBox for example it reads the videos of platforms perfectly, and also when I see the roms of any platform the coverbox and videos of the games appears…, but when I try to Play it , the following message appears:

"The ROM file you've specified does not exist"

My Roms are in the SD CARD (micro SD) and before, they worked perfectly..., so now, due to the fact that I moved the LaunchBox to the flash drive,   I need to browse again where the roms are located. Don't I ???

So, I went to LaunchBox, TOOLS, and there I click of "Manage Platforms" and there, I selectec a system, NES for example, I click on Edit, and I selected now the folder where are the roms... please take a look at the attached image in the link  below:

http://i67.tinypic.com/34fz28k.jpg

So... what do I have to make it work properly again???? what did I do wrong??

If you see the image, the rest of systems … the games appears in the list located in "games/….." , but they do not work now. Besides, you can see that the NES system I change the location folder to " E:/ROMS/NES....., but the roms do not work either….

Please, I need your help... THANKS A LOT for your support.

Regards
