Adding MAME collection, missing artwork?

I've added my MAME collection and downloaded the artwork, but if I sort by hiding those without X (clear logos for example) in only end up with 400 odd out of my 2700 games

Is this just the sum total of what LB has or has something gone wrong?

In my HS setup I had images for nearly all of them so just finding out if I need to do some kind of linking to that

If you still have your HS setup and your artwork i.e. clear logos are named the same as your rom files, just copy them over to the launchbox images folder. This will also work for video snaps.

Thanks!

Just noticed i could just point the folders to my HS setup too... that might be the way to do it to save having duplicates!

Naming convention is the same then, right?

For the most part they should work, Launchbox/Bigbox will pick up media with the same name as the game is called in Launchbox, or the file name of the actual rom. I would be careful of pointing Launchbox to your hyperspin media though as by default Launchbox does use a slightly different naming scheme, as it generally adds a -01, -02 etc to the end of images. So it may rename your images if you update your images and metadata from within Launchbox, if it does that it may not be picked up by RocketLauncher/Hyperspin anymore due to the naming not being what they are looking for.

See image for how Launchbox actually name images it downloads from within it's UI.

If you want to continue to use two different frontends then yes i would recommend copying the images to Launchbox, or just downloading fresh ones from our database as they will all automatically be downloaded to the correct folders with minimal effort from your self.

I already did it with the images actually, but there were a number missing (some surprising...)

With Videos I didn't get any so re-pointed my folder to HS and seemed to work... folders are so big tho, would rather not have 2 copies!

Just debating an emumovies subscription - will that fill gaps I have in the images from Launchbox

Launchbox has images for nearly all working MAME games, i would suggest running the image and metadata wizard to check, click a MAME game and then ctrl a to highlight them all, then go to tools/download metadata and images and go through the wizard. As for game video snaps you wont get any from Launchbox, we only have Platform/Playlist videos, game videos only come from emumovies and you need a paid subscription in order to get them from inside Launchbox.

You could try creating Symlinks of you media from the HS folder in your LB folder from my understanding of reading about symlink the linked files can have different names but still be linked so if LB was to append a number onto one of the file names in the LB video folder it wouldn't change the name of the file in you HS folder. Here is a link to a HTG article on Symlinks

Interesting. I've used symlinks but only to put the contents of a folder in another folder - didn't realise you could have that kind of setup...
Does sound to me like it could end up being a bit fragile...

I have the same issue and not with just Mame. The thing is I can see the artwork in the GamesDB but Launchbox for some reason doesn't download it. For this reason, I have kept my Hyperspin setup just so I can get all the artwork and check I have complete rom sets before importing everything into Launchbox. It still fails to import a few mostly due to differences in the name of the games between Hyperspin and Launchbox so it requires a bit of labour.

Not sure what causes Launchbox not to import the artwork from the DB. I mentioned it a few months ago, but didn't get much help about it either.

Glad it wasn't just me

Be interesting to get to the bottom of what causes this!

Definitely missing 126 pieces of clean logo images... I've got them as a favorite list now (after using the audit) - any way to export this list so i can try match via the hysperspin setup i have?

Equally, is there a way to then upload those to the gamesdb to help others in future?
