vaderag
The way Platform Categories sort in LaunchBox has been bugging me for a while, especially around Console sorting... Basically, I have some super cool consoles that have the true 'nostalgia' feel because I lived through them, cluttered amongst consoles that are pre- my time, but I still want to exist in my collection. So I've been trying to think of ways to organise and wondering if anyone else has found a better way of organising... I don't want to have a billion levels in BigBox, so wondering about breaking out by console generation, years, possibly by manufacturer but nothing is really hitting the spot for me right now, so just wondering if anyone else has re-organised their collection and how they feel about it now?! garbanzo
I plan on breaking mine down by manufacturer, then prefacing each system with the release year in brackets. This is how i had things set up way back when I used QuickPlay as my frontend.
bundangdon
One ideal way you could organize consoles is by generation. There's a fairly basic but good explanation of this here: https://www.quora.com/How-are-video-game-console-generations-defined-Who-defines-them For example: 1st Generation: Magnavox Odyssey 2nd Generation: Mattel Intellivision, Atari 2600 3rd Generation: Nintendo NES, Sega Master System, Atari and so on More in-depth coverage on this subject can be found here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_home_video_game_consoles Edited February 28, 2019 by bundangdon

BUT... the problem for anyone using the machine is, there's then a barrier to knowing which generation a certain system is in (except for me who's researched it!) Part of the reason I want to rejig it is so that my kids, my mates etc know exactly the kind of thing they're getting in each category 12 hours ago, garbanzo said: I plan on breaking mine down by manufacturer, then prefacing each system with the release year in brackets. I'm also not sure if i'd then want the manufacturers under the major categories... e.g. Handhelds -> Sega -> GameGear
