Mogochagi
Hello everyone, I have a question perhaps someone can help me with. I am using Mednafen. I have Mednafen loaded into LaunchBox. The file directory in LaunchBox is set to go to the folder in Mednafen where I keep the roms. When I select the TG16 platform in LaunchBox it brings up my games. When I click on a game to play, it brings up the folder in Mednafen in which I have all my games stored instead of running just the one particular game on I clicked on to play in LaunchBox. Can anyone tell me how to fix this, so when I click on a game in LaunchBox it will actually launch just that game instead of bringing up the path folder in Mednafen where my games are stored? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
neil9000
So are you saying when you double click a game in Launchbox it is opening your rom folder in Windows Explorer? Can you right click one of the games and go to edit and take a shot and post it showing the rom path.
Mogochagi
Ok, Capture 1 picture is what happens when I right click on the game and choose edit and Capture 2 picture is what happens when I double click on the game I want to play in LaunchBox
Lordmonkus
You are using a 3rd party GUI to load your games, you should be using the mednafen.exe to load your games through Launchbox.
Mogochagi
I am using the mednafen.exe to load them. That is what I set it to in LaunchBox when I installed it, I only called it turbografx in LaunchBox so I knew what system it was for, plus there was no Mednafen option to call it mednafen. Lordmonkus
If you double click a game in LB and you get the Mdnaffe UI that tells me you have that exe set as your emulator, not mednafen.exe. 1 minute ago, Mogochagi said: plus there was no Mednafen option to call it mednafen. You can call the emulator whatever you want in LB.
Mogochagi
Ahhhh, I get what your saying now, I need to manually type in "mednafen.exe." so I am going to assume i type this in the field where i choose what emulator to run it? Lordmonkus
You can call the emulator whatever you want to call it in the Manage Emulators window, i'd suggest calling it Mednafen for simplicity. You can then add multiple platforms for it like I have in the screen shot above in Associated Platforms tab. You have to have platforms added to this tab for the emulator to work in LB. Also while we're at it, you do have Mednafen installed ? Because Mednaffe is not an emulator emulator, it is juts a GUI for Mednafen. Here is a quick tutorial video I did for Launchbox and Retroarch, even though it is for Retroarch most of the same principles apply here except you don't need any command line parameters with Mednafen. Mogochagi
I downloaded Mednafen, and extracted it with 7zip to my hard drive. If that is what you mean by installed then yes, if not then no. Sorry, I am not the brightest bulb on the billboard, but I will eventually understand, it just needs to be dumbed down sometimes for me. Let me try this and see if I can get it to work. Lordmonkus
Ok, I just wanted to be sure you didn't confuse the 3rd party GUI for it as the emulator or including the emulator. Personally I don't use any GUI's for Mednefen, I just use it straight up on its own.
neil9000
In your screenshot you do not have mednafen as the emulator, you have mednaffe, notice the difference? Mednaffe is not a emulator, mednafen is, so you either need to point launchbox at the mednafen.exe if you have it, or you need to actually download mednafen still. Mogochagi
Ok, I just went into the folder for what I downloaded and there are 2 icons there, one is called mednafen and the other is called mednaffe, i see the difference now. Both of them look different from each other, mednaffe icon is what i use to open the program with, while the mednafen icon looks like an execute icon, that i have not clicked on yet. So the mednafen needs to be the target, I get it now, thanks so very much with your help on this. I just tried it and WAAAAHOOOOOO!!!!!!!!! It works after changing the path for emulator. Thank you so very very much, I never would have gotten that. You guys ROCK!
Mogochagi
Oh one more quick thing, that means if an .exe supports running that file, i can route all the games it supports to that exe correct?
Lordmonkus
Yes. Mednafen is the emulator and it's a command line only emulator. Mednaffe is a GUI made for it, there are others GUIs for it as well but they are just a GUI to configure the emulator and use it on it's own. You could configure everything through the mednafen.cfg file found in your Mednafen install folder but that is all done with notepad instead of a nice looking mouse driven GUI. Mogochagi
Haha, I will pass. I feel grateful enough as it is to get this working, I am not going to press it.
Lordmonkus
Actually there is very little if anything that is needed to be configured in the config file via notepad, mainly it's just video settings such as shaders. But if you can use Mednaffe to configure stuff and launch the games through Launchbox with all the settings in tact then that's fine as well.
