gboava
Hi guys! I think I found a problem in the operation of the region's priorities for choosing media. Apparently, the North America region does not follow the region's priorities. I did several tests and the LaunchBox always puts North America ahead of other regions, regardless of priority. For example, suppose that for a given game and certain media (say Box - 3D), I have an image in the North America folder, one in the United States folder and another in the Europe folder. Whatever the order of priorities (obviously with the boxes checked), LaunchBox always shows the image of the North America folder. However, when the choice does not involve North America, LaunchBox chooses correctly (I did not do all the tests to confirm that the problem is only with North America, but in all that I did, I only detected problems in this case). Another fact that I would like to highlight, I do not know if it is intentional or if it is an error, when clicking on "Edit" for a given game, LaunchBox does not show all images from all checked regions. Even if there are priorities, I believe that all checked regions should have their images shown, since if the user doesn't want a particular region, he just uncheck the corresponding box. I'm using the latest version 10.14. I'm grateful if anyone can clarify what is happening. Thank you!
gboava
I did other tests and found that LaunchBox always uses the region indicated in the "Region" field of the game as a priority region. For example, if a game is registered with the North America region, then even when the North America box is not checked in the region list, LaunchBox will always give priority to the media in North America folder. My suggestion is to make this option explicit in the choice of region priorities, that is, that there be a box to check if we want to prioritize the region of the game always above the chosen order. Thank you! Yeah i second this. I have US roms for my systems, but would prefer to use the PAL boxart for them as they are the boxes i grew up with and recognize, but in order to do so i have to rename all the images to match the US region naming in order to "force" Launchbox to show them. So yes i agree it should show the boxes based off of your region priorities set, and not the (USA) in rom names which is already ignored for other things in the UI and matching purposes. This is especially important for me for things like Genesis, it was the Megadrive here and the boxes were different and id like to show them considering my Platform name in Launchbox is "Sega Mega Drive" i dont really want a mix of boxes some with Genesis on them and some with MegaDrive, same issue with Sega CD/Mega CD, and also SNES cartridges the US has those boxy carts while everywhere else in the would had the more rounded type. Any thoughts on this @Jason Carr or @C-Beats?
gboava
The solution I found here is to leave the "Region" field as blank in all games (this can be done by editing the games together). I think it takes less work than renaming all the roms. But I still think it would be interesting to be able to choose whether we want the game region to overlap or not the priority of regions. I used bulk rename utility to rename the image files. A native solution would be better though.
Jason Carr
The reason why we use the game's region is for correctness, really. Most No-Intro ROMs these days have the region listed in the file names, so we can accurately follow the region in during import. If you import European ROMs, you should get European boxes if they are available. To be honest, I don't think we'll be changing that, but I suppose we could add an option to override that eventually. Regardless, yes, you can always either change or empty out the Region field on the games, or just move the media. But honestly, at that point, you're technically making things less correct/accurate.
