Johnny T
Hi all, I've set up the Fairchild Channel F emulation on my BB install. I'm using a separate version of MAME (as I read that was the recommended option). It runs fine but it's very blurry. I presume just because I'm using a 27" monitor and it's supposed to be run on a smaller CRT? I wondered if there was an overlay (like the Lynx overlay in retroarch) or some raster.ini settings that you knew of in order to make it sharper? (or maybe some other solution?). Here's an image of what I'm seeing.... (it doesn't look too bad on the attached image but it's worse in real life).
Your Friendly A.I Overlord
It could be due to image scaling (stretching) and bilinear filtering. Try using integer scaling without filtering. Or maybe you are using a bluring shader of some sorts?
bundangdon
That's a very common issue, and a while back I found the solution. In the default command line parameters (for MAME) add the following: -video gdi channelf -cart And also you can play Channel F games with Retroarch, using the freechaf core. I just tried it now and it seems to be running smoothly Edited October 6, 2020 by bundangdon

I'll probably swap to that then as I'm using RA for nearly everything else so makes sense to keep it all 'under one roof' as they say. Thanks for all your help. Glad to hear you got it working, and I'd definitely try the Retroarch core since it works pretty well too
tj122
This reply might be a little late but I have noticed that Fairchild running on both mass and mame does come out blurry. Using retroarch with the Fairchild core the picture does come out a lot clearer. However I'm having problems with retroarch running all the games. I am looking through the forums trying to find a answer for this when I ran across your post. If I find an answer I'll let you know if you're still interested. From what I can tell retroarch is better for emulating Fairchild if all games play.

tj122
Ok I found my problem. It was user error. So all the games work and are clearer on retroarch with the freechf core.
