clem84
Hey everyone. New here. Just looking for general advice here. I'm building this Mame cabinet. I would like to have strikly old arcade games on it, basically from the beginning of arcades up until the late 90s. (basically all 2D games) I have an old i7-2600 from 2011 with Windows10 installed. Since I will basically only be using Mame, do I need something like Retroarch? I just watched ETA Prime's video on Launchbox and he advises to install Retroarch but that's because in his build he's using multiple console and roms. The way I see it I would just need to install Launchbox/Bigbox and then the latest version of Mame and dump all the roms in the roms folder? There's probably more to it than that but that the general idea? So basically it would be: 1. Install Launchbox/Bigbox 2. install latest version of Mame 3. setup LB with Mame (path to the emu.) 4. load all roms into LB and download all data about those roms. Is this basically correct, or am I missing something big here? Edited October 22, 2020 by clem84
DeadVoivod
That's correct. Just use the standalone emulator of MAME, no need for RetroArch.

Then set up your LB//BB. This way if your games do not run from inside LB/BB we know to eliminate the emulator when troubleshooting.
discostu58
i have run across a game here and there that MAME wont run for me. For those occasions I can usually find a version of MAME in Retroarch that will.
