Mcfly 2021 - Large Launchbox / BigBox collection. 420 Platforms, 28TB+, 460,000+ Games, 330+ Playlists. Pausing for breath, good for now.

So, I've added some more. I like '420' so I've decided to stop there for now... ;) This is around 4 years of spare time work or so, I'll continue but I need to 'get a life' as my kids continually tell me... I've added a bunch of Windows operating systems as well as some other randoms, merely for archiving purposes. I'm kinda into making sure that older systems are kept alive and not forgotten so I'll probably add more as time goes on. This collection includes hacks / saves / differing languages and differing updates. Everything. Don't judge me, I'm a stickler for consistency.

My startup video:

This is my Launchbox / BigBox start up video for my current collection. My collection is freakishly large so this lasts over 30 minutes. Apologies if your life has more meaning.

I have this on an HP Proliant HP370 G6 4U server with a few internal and external hard drives added for space. Twin 3.07Ghz 6 core CPU's giving 24 Cores with 60 GB RAM. Windows 10. Launchbox Games drive- https://drive.google.com/file/d/1dvdY0mynRnYXZoY-tGfZzyHK1JR-1ytj/view?usp=sharing,   There are a bunch of other games on different drives - https://drive.google.com/file/d/1iOlYY3WPC0wXw01MVpqc67DGJ5wSSVYz/view?usp=sharing currently everything is about 28TB or so, but it will get bigger... I'm trying to get 500,000 games, so this is far from over :)

Videos for my actual collection are for the most part downloaded from YouTube. Some can't be found so I've used others and 'been creative' to fill some gaps. Images are about 95% pulled from Launchbox, I did have to make a few myself as they were inexplicably absent from Google. Bad Google. This start-up video is basically a lot of YouTube 'BigBox Startup' videos I've merged, I'm not claiming copyright or pretending I know how to do these, I don't.

A lot of my collection can be viewed here: https://gamesdb.launchbox-app.com/collection/games/Mikieboyz

Feel free to berate / condone / appreciate / admire / ridicule if you feel like adding your opinion... After all, my life isn't complete until I know what you think... isn't that how the internet works??!?

  Comments and questions are welcome.

This is a long video, if your decide to use this as your start up BigBox video and your collection doesn't take 30+ minutes to load this video will end when your collection has loaded. Magic!!

Mikie.

You seem to have some duplicate folders in your collection, e.g. "Microsoft MSX 2" and "Microsoft MSX2" (without the space).

How did you include different versions of games, such as hacks, languages and updates? Did you just import everything into the same platform or did you make different platforms for, say, hacks?

What do you mean by "saves"?

Does your BigBox really take 30 minutes to launch? That seems really impractical.

Impressive collection anyway. I'm at about 200.000 games (Mainly because of flashpoint, otherwise I'd be just a little over 100.000). Most of my systems are a 1G1R set. My BigBox takes around 1 minute to launch (which I already find a bit much).

You're right. I've yet to delete a bunch of empty folders, they're not high priority right now but they need to go.

I just imported everything I could find into their specific overall platform folder. I have a lot of Image / Video folders that need to be deleted / changed as well.

I found that when I downloaded ROM packs there were a lot of previously saved files, usually, '.sav' files where people have saved where they were in a game.

Yes, and yes. My view is that once this is complete, it'll just stay on or hibernate or sleep. My system is exclusively LB / BB and I don't use it for anything else.

Thank you. I know my collection is ridiculous, but it echoes my personality :) My initial intent was to be conservative like yourself, only having platforms I'd actually play... but it has snowballed into this beast that I can't control. I should stop really, but my OCD won't let me!

You could make multiple instances of the same platforms for different regions. This is what I would do if I'd import all versions of a game, e.g. in Super Nintendo.

Create a custom Plattform Category named "Super Nintendo Entertainment System". Then make 4 different Super Nintendo Platforms:

- "Super Nintendo Entertainment System - North America"

- "Super Nintendo Entertainment System - Europe"

- "Super Nintendo Entertainment System - Japan"

- "Super Nintendo Entertainment System - Other"

As for different Versions / revisions of games, I don't know about any working method to tell Launchbox to prioritize the latest version of a game when importing, and importing previous revisions or betas as additional applications. Would  be great if you could just tell launchbox to do that.

I don't get easily impressed but this collection is impressive, well done! I've just started out on the emulation scene thru launchbox and bigbox. I have always had it setup on my ps3, xbox360, switch but it's never been very good. I've always had tons of rom packs throughout my hdd's and it's time to put it into order. Great to see that you have separated them into sections for the languages. So I see that you have Europe, Japan and USA that I can see, what are the other 2 ? and do you keep the 5 throughout your whole collection? also how do you deal with (JUE)=USA/Europe/Japan roms as an example, what catergory do they end up in ?

Why do you care if he has added systems that don't work ? 🤣

FYI, PS4 can use the PC versions of the games to play them and there are literally 100's as I have this setup myself.

Also, a couple of Jaguar CD games also work.

Well, why do any of us care about anything? =P

PC versions of PS4 games are PC versions and not PS4 games. If versions don't matter then you could also just add the Genesis version of Street Fighter 2 to your SNES platform.

How can I get Jaguar CD games working? I have tried the retroarch core as well as mame/mess. I couldn't get any of the working.

Some of those platforms can't be emulated (yet): PS4, Jaguar CD. Why even include them? Also some of them might be duplicates (Flash (Flashpoint).xml; Flash.xml; Flashpoint Infinity FE.xml)

Anyway, impressive list.

Agreed, some can't as yet be emulated. They're included as once emulators become available, I'll have games to play on them. And yes, some are duplicates. I found that some titles play better (or only) on other emulators, this is an attempt to get as many working as I can. Flashpoint Infinity FE is 1 file, it's a front end that can be used to navigate through the files associated with it. Flashpoint and Flash were both sourced from different places, there's probably an overlap in there. Thanks for the comment.

I've updated again. YT video is uploading now - Launchbox / Bigbox | 500+ Platforms | 400+ Playlists | 500,000+ Games - The ridiculous collection.

Sooo... yeah. Enough for now. I'm moving home in the next couple of months so this will be put aside until time is less 'hectic'.

Comments / criticisms welcome 👾

* I've taken this video down. I should have watched it more closely before uploading it to YouTube, it got stuck on a couple of platforms so it's gone. I'm starting a new topic for the newest video, check my profile. *

We will never have enough in a lifetime to play all of this! 😂

I realize that in the end:
* I always play the same games (arcade), nostalgia being for many the main cause
* I feel like the more games I have, the less I play!

Frankly like everyone here I'm on the ass 😂
and I can't even imagine the time you had to burn for

1) that everything be operational!
2) dress the ensemble (must have been complicated for the media !?)

In any case, a big congratulations, I think you will break us a record!

but clearly for my afterwards such a huge system almost scares me o_o

but I still admire the feat :)
