How can I import Teknoparrot games to Launchbox?

Hi all,

I've been trying to import my Teknoparrot games in Launchbox, but to no avail. I select "Tools", "Import", "ROM files", but the problem rises right from the get-go: the Launchbox drop-down menu regarding the platform is nowhere near complete: it lacks many arcade systems. There's Taito Type X when it comes to arcade systems emulated by Teknoparrot, and that's about it. I decided to start importing my TP games with Daemon Bride, which is an EXAMU Ex-Board game, except EXAMU Ex-Board is not in the Launchbox list of platforms, I plan on moving to Sega RingEdge games, Sega RingWide games, Namco ES3 games, etc. but those systems are nowhere listed in the Launchbox drop-down menu!

So I thought to myself, I'll just import these games under one platform called "Teknoparrot". Not ideal as I'd like to have all those arcade systems listed separately (much like Launchbox is able to list some platforms separately when you import your MAME set, like NEO GEO MVS, Sega Model 2 and... not much more unfortunately), except there's no such platform! Seriously, Teknoparrot is not available as a platform in that long list. I know it's not an arcade system, but since all those arcade systems (Sega RingEdge, Sega RIngWide, Sega Lindbergh, Taito NESicaxLive, Raw Thrills PC BAsed, etc) are missing from that list, just "Teknoparrot" would've been better than nothing.

Also, I saw on some youtube tutorial video that it's supposedly possible (or "necessary"?) to import your Teknoparrot games by making a .txt file named the same as the game folder and drag and drop it in LB, tried that but no dice. At the end of the importing process, Launchbox had no game listed to import, so I just used the aforementioned method.

I'm lost here. Any help would be welcome., if only in the form of the right tutorial video to watch on youtube...

To add any arcade system you want you are not stuck with what is in the pre-populated drop down list. Just type in any name you want. The list is just to get people started. It is not, and for that matter, was never meant to be all inclusive. They are no longer separated as a decision was made a long while back to put all arcade boards under "Arcade" platform. I have all these arcade boards as unique platforms so it is easy to do.

The text method is dated and really not needed. I just tested that method and it does work.

When you add TP as an emulator be sure in the "Default command line parameters" to add "--profile=%romfile%.xml" . You might also need to check the boxes for "Don't Use Quotes..." and "Use File Name Only..."

Then just import each games .xml file located in the "Game Profile" folder of Teknoparrot.

Some did a write up a short while ago about doing TP games without using the text. I will see if I can find it.

Thank you very much for your reply. Hold on, I'm gonna try that...

edit: FFS, I've just now realized we're indeed not stuck with the platforms in the drop-down menu and we can type entirely what we want...?! Geez.

Still, it would've been cool to list more, since they have Taito Type X in there. But it's nice to see this, lol

edit2: like I said I'm trying to import my TP games using the "import rom files" method, if it works I won't be bothering with the .txt file method. Yes I know about the .xml file stuff. Is it in "use custom command-line parameter" box we're supposed to type it? Like

--profile=DaemonBrideExboard.xml

then?

Teknoparrot is a emulator, not a system, those games simply come under "Arcade" as there are several different arcade systems being emulated by teknoparrot.

I saw your message after typing .xml at the end, and it seems to work fine. I was concerned at first I couldn't find where Launchbox had "launched" (Ha) my newly created platform "Examu Ex-Board", turns out it was at the very bottom, along with consoles, but it didn't take me long to figure out I could move it somewhere else. Launchbox is quite well designed.

Also, that italian dude you link to has apparently typed the command line "--profile=yaddayadda" in other places like "associated platform", but I've typed it only in the box below "use custom comand line parameters" in "Emulation" (when you right-click and choose "edit" for a game), and it seems to be working all right. Well, if it wasn't for the text the mouse was hovering above that somehow gets caught when the game boots and stays there in the middle of the screen when the game is running that is, lol. But it's no big deal I think, just gotta make sure the mouse cursor doesn't stay on the text.
